This hidden gem, a short walk from London Bridge, is London’s first real wine bar opened in 1965 by John Davy trading as a Free Vintner. Brimming with genuine character and jovial service, it has the feel of a private members club (for ladies and gentleman) and is home to some of the most original private rooms in the area. Best quality meats hand carved off the bone, award winning steak and delicious seasonal dishes cater for discerning customers. All polished off with a British cheese board and sticky puds. Our wine list boasts a large number of rare vintages alongside an extensive range from Davy’s wine merchant cellars.

It was very quiet. Used to have a lively, friendly buzz but that seems to have gone. We ( two of us) visited on a Tuesday lunch time and once a table of 10 left we were the only people there. Neither of us had been there for a good 5 years but the change in ambiance was dramatic. The food was fine, as was the service but the buzz had gone. Perhaps we went on the wrong day.

Very quiet for a Wednesday lunch. I guess as off the main drag and borough market. Wines as expected good choice and good value for London. Food was well prepared, though probably best to go for specials seemed fresher. Old school charm about place small to big groups catered for. Good to take tourists who want an authentic pub / old skool dining experience. Service fine and helpful. Pity they don't serve Wallop, only bottled beers.

A great venue, away from the hustle and bustle of Borough Market. Menu changes every few weeks. My favourite starter is the scotch egg (divine!), sausage and mash always good. Pear crumble dessert is fab. The outstanding thing about the restaurant is its staff who are so professional and knowledgeable.

We went for a Sunday roast - very good indeed. Good sized portions cooked well. Service was excellent. No music - thank you! Just the gentle chatter of people talking and enjoying themselves. We also went for the good value Davy's own anniversary wine.

We had the steak and mushroom pie, some french fries and a glass of Merlot The pie was delicious, well filled with succulent, tender beef, delicious!!!

Found by chance on OpenTable and not a disappointment. Delicious Sunday roast accompanied by a flight of Spanish wine, served by a most helpful waiter.

An excellent location with charm and character in abundance… we had the bangers and mash and chicken supreme with a flight of wine to start and a bottle of red, excellent value and the staff were just amazing. We will return. ❤️
