The lentil/squash soup and brussel sprouts appetizer were delicious. It was a beautiful evening to be able to sit outdoors and enjoy high-quality German beer. As it got dark early it would be great to have candles or lights on the tables to be able to see the extensive menus. The waitress was fantastic!
Our old standby. We are only eating at restaurants with outdoor spaces and Cafe Berlin has a very nice biergarten - but seating is limited and reservations a must. Consistently good German food -including vegetarian options - and rotating German draft beer.
Excellent German Food! Great Oktoberfest Beer Selection! Friendly Service!
The food is good and a nice afternoon on the patio. But the beer prices are outrageous- at least for some of the drafts. $15 for a half liter of Ayinger? Sure, cheaper than a flight to Munich, but come on!
The special occasion was...Oktoberfest! Und das Abendessen war ausgezeichnet! Mensch, ganz prima! It was a typically mouth-watering and delicious Schweinehaxe, which in case you don’t know is a pig joint that is boiled so that it is tender and slides off of the bone, and then baked so that the skin turns crackling brown and crispy. Wonderful. The side dish of warm German potato salad with bits of bacon was a perfect accompaniment, and the cool and refreshing cucumber and dill salad gave a sweet and crispy contrast to each savory mouthful of tender pork. A yummy lager imported from Munich’s Spaten brewery was just right to sip inbetween bites. That meal, which was fabelhaft, should have been enough. But I couldn’t resist, and so finished with a delightful pear tart (a Birnetorte), which was warm and slightly crunchy on the outside and soft and filled with sweet pear slices on the inside. Served with whipped cream and a scoop of house-made beer ice cream, it was a scrumptious Nachtisch. Pairing it with a glass of light Gewuerztraminer from Rheinhessen made for a pleasant finish. The owners and staff at Cafe Berlin are nice and collegial, and somehow they always remember faces (even when masked)! Cafe Berlin is my go-to place in DC during the one week per month I’m here. This week I managed to go twice!! Hope you do too.
Pork knuckle was delicious. Definitely worth the price! (Not always on menu. Need to call and ask.)
Great outdoor patio dining. Service was great, and food was spectacular!
Waiter was medicocre and inattentive. Food and wine were very good.
Great spot! Large portions, very good beer. Cool place in Cap Hill!
Lovely second time back. They were great about keeping everything clean, and we felt like there was more than enough room between us and the other customers outside. We'll definitely be back again!
I love this place. The staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Food and ambiance are always a reason to sit outside and enjoy their fantastic menus. It’s a favorite and will continue to be.
Sie schmeckte sehr gut. My wife and I have been enjoying the Sunday Suppers (take-out) and this was our first foray into the dinning room since covid. This was a great opportunity to try a couple of the Oktoberfest beers with the Wurstfest dinner, my sides were the gurkensalat and sauerkraut. My wife had the Huhnerschnitzel (chicken pounded flat with a light breading). We felt very safe and comfortable eating inside.
Café Berlin gave excellent service food and atmosphere despite Covid issues
Great place, would certainly recommend. Food is authentic and they have a great selection of German beer.
I went for one of three special Oktoberfest servings of roast suckling pig. Fantastic, as are all of my many occasions dining at Cafe Berlin. In addition to the suckling pig, there was also Apfelstrudel - also yummy! As if that’s not enough to please, they also had three new imported Oktoberfest beers. I tried two (Paulaner and Spaten) and both were satisfying. I was at the Munich Oktoberfest two years ago, and visited many tents including Paulaner and Spaten. My experience then was well-matched by Cafe Berlin now. I’m going again (to Cafe Berlin) this Saturday, and can’t wait!!
Great food, service, and drinks. Always a great time.
Outstanding restaurant. What a gem. Traditional German food doesn't get enough credit and Cafe Berlin makes a good argument for why.
This is the place to go for Oktoberfest sausage, kraut, and German potato salad--first rate!
Great Oktoberfest menu, authentic German beer and food offerings, but also other seasonal fare. Appropriately spaced and sanitized outdoor dining, with indoor option.
The almond crusted trout was amazing!
House wine was very expensive.
Overall, very good experience- we sat on the patio.
Beautiful outdoor dining area. Excellent service and delicious Oktoberfest menu. We had a great time.
We’ve never had a bad dish here!! Your food never disappoints. Café Berlin has become our top dining choice for German cuisine. Things were hopping tnite due to Oktoberfest so service was a little wonky at times, but they were quick to accommodate.
Never a bad time or bad food. I so appreciated the HEPA filter for inside dining. You guys are doing so much to make your guests feel comfortable and safe. Thank you!!
I highly recommend Cafe Berlin. It was a pleasant surprise and the food was excellent.
Excellent, hearty food. Great selection, in an outdoor setting.
Beautiful outdoor courtyard with well spaced tables. Really enjoyed their special OctoberFest menu items.
Flawless as always and the special Octoberfest menu added to the experience.
Lovely outdoor patio. The staff is amazing. Very attentive. Beer choice is awesome.
Very German menu. Always a good experience.
The service was good, and we were promptly seated honoring our reservation. The food was not bad, but needed more seasoning since my wife's Schnitzel was kind of bland and my wild boar could've used more flavor.
We went here for the Spanferkel (pig roast) and were very satisfied. When my partner complained that he didn’t get as much pork as me, our server brought a small bowl with more. For the sides I ordered the bratkartoffel and Bavarian cabbage which tasted just like it is in Germany.
Loved the pig roast for Oktoberfest
We have enjoyed Café Berlin's Oktoberfest and pig roast for several years, worth the commute from Rockville. With Covid, things had to change and the owners did a terrific job in spacing tables, sanitizing tables and chairs after each guest departed, etc. Well done on all counts, including the food which was excellent as always. We sat inside without any feeling of fear or unease.
This place is awesome with the best German food in DC! Do yourself a favor and go today.
Great as usual. Delicious food, attentive servers, and beautiful ambiance.
Perfect evening for outdoor eating - food and wine were delightful . On to Oktoberfest!
Pricey but the food is great!
Nice outside patio to help with distancing. Food was great!
Schnitzel portions have shrunk since last visit. Food still quite tasty and beer garden a lovely setting.
I dine at Cafe Berlin once or twice a week when I’m in DC (about half of each month). It’s become my go-to place because of the relaxing outdoor patio ambience, the endearing collegiality of the staff and owners, and the changing but always nice entrees and starters. Also a scrumptious Bavarian dessert or two. But wait! I’ve forgotten to mention the thirst-quenching fresh draft German beers, directly imported from their manufacturers. Some are constants on the menu, and some rotate - but there’s always a widely varying selection. It’s great value, and a must-drink and must-taste cafe.
Best German food this side of the Atlantic. Friendly staff. The outside garden is beautiful. All table are under huge german-bier umbrellas! Amazing spot.
Always a great time at Cafe Berlin. The food is warm and the beer is cold. By keeping their menu smaller during these difficult times they are ensuring that the quality of the food remains at the highest levels. While my schnitzel was a little too thin, its flavor was excellent. The sauerbraten, wurst platter, and cod at the table were all expertly prepared. Of note is the sides from the salads to the spatzle everything was fantastic.
