In 1976 local musician and entrepreneur Harvey Platt had the idea to bring a slice of America to Norwich after working for and with the American war machine in South East Asia and a later visit to San Francisco to meeting up with former musician buddies.Harvey had the opportunity to purchase an old café caravan situated on Castle Meadow Norwich next to the old cattle market.Zaks opened in May 1976 serving the now famous chargrilled burgers in the “Original Zaks Caravan” wrapped in tin foil and cooked fresh to order in the American tradition.If it is an authentic American dining experience you are looking for then Zaks is your kind of place.     Everything was spot on. The food was incredible, the service was friendly and fast, without being rushed and it was just right for the occasion we were celebrating (staff wished my wife happy birthday as soon as we arrived). I would recommend Smoke and Co to everyone who loves their meat!

    Absolutely amazing food! 😍 We visited for my son's birthday, and everything was unbelievable! The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff went that extra mile to make his birthday special, even putting a candle in his burger! 🥹❤️ Such a lovely little touch that made him feel special. Fantastic food, brilliant service and a wonderful experience all round. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

    I was pleased with the fact that it had the same menu as the Zak's restaurant in Great Yarmouth. I felt the same friendly welcome and service as I do In Great Yarmouth of which I am a regular there. If I am in Norwich for the weekend I will not hesitate to book another table here.
