In 1976 local musician and entrepreneur Harvey Platt had the idea to bring a slice of America to Norwich after working for and with the American war machine in South East Asia and a later visit to San Francisco to meeting up with former musician buddies.Harvey had the opportunity to purchase an old café caravan situated on Castle Meadow Norwich next to the old cattle market.Zaks opened in May 1976 serving the now famous chargrilled burgers in the “Original Zaks Caravan” wrapped in tin foil and cooked fresh to order in the American tradition.If it is an authentic American dining experience you are looking for then Zaks is your kind of place.     Second visit in a week… surely it couldn’t possibly be as friendly, quick and tasty as last time? Oh boy, was I wrong! If anything, it was even friendlier and even tastier! From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm welcome, and the team were incredibly accommodating and flexible with our timing, which really made us feel valued. The burgers here are seriously delicious, with fantastic portion sizes and a really fair price for the quality you get. Great food, great service and a brilliant atmosphere, so glad after many many years I’ve found Zaks again!

    Great service, the staff were extremely friendly and happy to help. Delicious food, maybe a little expensive but presented lovely. The sparkler was a charming touch.
