   Having had a very poor fried fish on my last visit the manager welcomed me by name and provided an entirely complimentary lunch including a glass of beer. Excellent response. Fish and chips was very good as it usually is and impossible to fault response to a poor meaal.

   Fish and chips is usually very good but not on this occasion, the batter was soggy as were the chips, the waitress was uninterested but as I was leaving the manager asked me about lunch, apologised and said he would take care of it next time I was there.

   We chose Davy's for a friends get together as there isn't intrusive music and so we could hear each other! Our waiter was the most efficient we had had for a long time! The food is good and the special fish platter with 3 tasting wines was very good value.

    Really enjoyable food, service and location for a Christmas lunch get together. Slightly disappointed that we were unable to access the Christmas menu, as apparently we had not chosen it when we booked. However, they bent over backwards to compromise on this. Well done Davys

    We were thrown out on a Friday night at 10:30 p.m. because “the pub wasn’t busy enough”! Very disappointing as I was expecting to be around till 11:15 at least..

    There were a huge number of dishes not available despite being on the menu. At least four main courses not available. The fish was mediocre at best. All in all disappointing compared to what I have experienced in the past.

    To start with the positives: service was very friendly which is always nice and the house wine was good. However, the place is let down by the bland food and lack of ambiance. I visited on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was not busy and had no background music (just the dull tones of the TV - not good). I went for the Aubergine main, which was overlooked and came with (what I believe) was unwashed supermarket rocket. Was left hungry after this and it was £14.

    My friends and I met at Davy's St. James for lunch and had the two-course menu @ £15.95. It was good value for money and they didn't scrimp on the food at that price. Would recommend for a relaxed lunch with friends.

    Our 2nd visit and this time it was 6 of us which included 4 friends visiting from America. We were shown to a room of our own which was nicely laid out for us. My guests were very impressed the pub did this. The meal was very good and we had over 3 hours to sit and catch up. Thank you Davy's.

    Great place to go when the weather is cold/wet as this is a basement venue, very atmospheric. We all had burgers which were well cooked to order and the service was fine. Can be a bit noisy with all the drinkers at the bar area though.

    I visited with a group of work colleagues one Friday lunchtime, the food was good but not great, but service was slow considering it was late lunch and not overly busy. However, it's very convenient to our offices for an informal lunch with the team.

    I feel bad giving one stars to this restaurant as we did not even get a chance to eat their food but don't know what else to put to get this message posted. I don't know if this is an opentable or a restaurant issue but we booked online for dinner on Easter Monday but when we turned up it was closed. The system should have prevented us making the reservation if the restaurant was going to be closed for the holiday.

    A great traditional old school English dining experience - the best Bangers and Mash in town and their Old Wallop in pewter mugs is the best. Evenings seemed quiet though and staff were sparse leading to only fair service, probably more of a lunch time spot.

    This is an excellent little hide away from the hustle and bustle of central London. The food was very good, there was no rush and it was a relaxed environment with friedly staff. Not expensive.

    We dined because of a 50 per cent discount offer via OpenTable. The service was very friendly - professional and courteous. The food itself was pretty good. Our starters were lovely. I had haddock and poached egg. My partner had carpaccio. Both were very tasty. I had sausage and mash with a red wine gravy. The sausages were large and tasty and there was plenty of mash, but I was disappointed that there wasn't very much of the gravy - I felt like I had to 'save' it rather than being able to mash it into my potato. As such, I felt that my dish was a little dry. It was still good - just not exceptional.

    This was our third visit to Davy's and unfortunately this time wasn't as good as previously. I don't know what went wrong but our booking was for 5.30pm and the two dishes I wanted i.e. the Brie and PotatoTartlet as a starter and the Lamb as main had both run out as had other dishes. I can understand this happening late in the Evening but not at 5.30. The waitresses and service however are first class. We will go there again and hope that this was a "one off" bad evening.

    Starters and mains were well cooked and on the whole well thought out and tasty. We enjoyed smoked salmon, scallops and lamb. The puddings were a little disappointing though. A chocolate pudding had been rather zealously nuked and came out dry with not enough coffee cream to resuscitate it. The highlight of the evening was our wonderful waitress Joanna. She was polite, charming and chatty without being overbearing. A real asset to the restaurant.

    I booked the 50% food offer, selecting the place half based on geography (half way between the workplaces of my friend and I) and the other half as I like good wine! The 2006 Bordeaux wine was priced very well - the 2 x markup was no where close to many other restaurants who charge 3 or 4 times retail. The food (we ordered steak) was outstanding and easily as good as many other steak restaurants in the Piccadilly area and again at a very competitive price. I cannot wait to go there again.

    we had a wonderful dinner at Davy's which was very busy being a Friday night. atmosphere was buzzing and we had a quiet corner as it was dinner for two. we both had ribeye steak cooked to perfection. Service by Joanna was impeccable. the bottle of red wine complemented our meal nicely. joined the Davy's loyalty programme as I am sure I will be going to this restaurant many times in the future

    Great value with special offer meaning our group meal didn't break the bank - great location with buzzy young crowd. Food was generally good, with an excellent steak, pronounced best ever by the eater! This is not a pretentious spot, with a wine bar ambience - so fine if you want to meet up with a crowd after work and not everyone is eating. The service was friendly and efficient and they gave us a free bottle of champagne when they discovered it was a birthday dinner!
