Great New Year's dinner in the outside tent. The pre fixed menu was a great idea and value. The wine pairing was excellent. We really enjoyed our evening - and felt very safe with all the COVID precautions.

Patio seating with heat lamps, contact-less serving and friendly staff. The tomato soup was amazing (among all the other things we are,) and it was a delightful meal.

Did not want brunch (breakfast only) food after 1 pm

Fabulous dinner and service. We shared the octopus appetizer- surprisingly different and delicious. I had the trout special and my husband the beef short ribs. Both were fabulous. Our waiter was great- timed the meal just the way we wanted it.

Service was slow despite few customers in restaurant. Maybe not many waiters available? Portions a bit small but food excellent.

after previously enjoying brunch here, I came back to celebrate a friends 40th birthday. the food is adventurous and tasty and I cant wait to try more snacks in the lounge!

We used to frequent Evening Star, but for a variety of reasons, hadn't been in a while. Unfortunately, this visit did not make us want to return. The service was friendly, but very slow. While the appetizers and salads were delicious, the entrees were a disaster. Two dishes had to be returned because they were so badly burned. (and worse, they had flipped the burned side over so we couldn't see it initially). It was so charred that it was difficult to cut. A third entree was cold. Very disappointing for an old neighborhood favorite.

Good food. Except burger was overcooked. Service could be more attentive.

Inviting spot. Excellent food and beverage menu. We stopped by following a mid-evening DCA arrival. The pork schnitzel was superb, the charred little gem salad even better! There were many other tempting choices. Wine selection by the glass was varied and excellent. My only complaint concerns the noise level; I like a happening place but the noise here was way over the top. I’d choose a repeat visit any evening other than a late Friday or Saturday evening.

We are regulars here. We brought friends to try the restaurant for the first time, and we were very disappointed. The bread never came despite the waitress saying it was. When we asked the hostess as she walked by about the bread, she stated that no longer do that. Not 3 minutes later did she walk by with a bread plead for another table. The food was heavier than usual. The beans with the octopus were not fully cooked. Overall it was disappointing.

I was disappointed with my meal. The beet salad was overwhelmed with greens and only two or three thinly sliced beets..hard to find among the pile of greens!. The beef/pasta dinner was very disappointing..fairly tasteless. I was hoping to see duck that I once had on the menu. And, the dessert selection was pitiful...sponge cake or gelato. The service, on the other hand, was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and accommodating.

Everything was absolutely delicious!! The restaurant itself was so unique, with much to love! Perfect spot for a date night, or a casual dinner night! Couldn’t have picked a better spot.

Three delicious adventurous meals with friendly service providing just the right amount of attention. Lighting was perfect. We always have a good meal and a fun time at Evening Star.

Hadn't been in awhile because it was always so difficult to get a reservation due to it popularity. But we went at 5:30 on a Wednesday and there was plenty of room. Nice waitress, but with a stentorian voice you could hear many tables over. Pleasant meal with friends.

Both parties wound up sharing dishes. My husband and I shared 2 appetizers--creamy mushroom bruschetta and a cabbage salad--and then the roast duck in fennel and a goulash. Quite good. We had the brownie and ice cream for dessert but it was nothing special.

Monkfish special was excellent. However, rest of meal was disappointing. Ordered 16 oz beer that came in a 6-8 oz glass. Acorn squash gnocchi was so salty it was inedible. Steak frites- steak was cooked to perfection...about 10 minutes before I got it. It was COLD from sitting too long before being brought to our table. The fries were old, not fresh, dried out and cold! Service was excellent, but I literally couldn't eat anything I ordered. I left hungry & so disappointed. Walked to Dairy Godmother to make my night better. Very unusual for the 10-15 years we've been eating here. Not sure what's going on.

Lately I've been visiting Evening Star every two or three weeks; it has consistently been a great experience. The food has improved markedly over the last six months and the service has remained prompt and very pleasant. I'd recommend strongly for a nice dinner out.

They should tell you a dish is atomic hot if the menu description does not indicate.

We'll be back! First time visitors, despite it's long history. Enjoyed the entire evening.

Always an outstanding meal at decent prices for the quality and portion. Service was good but a bit slow. That said the food was outstanding and the manager brought some nibbles to tie us over as the entrees took some time. It’s always a go to place for a nice meal in a more casual atmosphere.
