Thomas Makris, originario de la isla de Skopelos, se enamoró de Helen Babalos cuando la conoció. Se encontraron por primera vez en 1974 en el restaurante Orestes Greek, mientras viajaban por Norteamérica como parte de un grupo de danzas griegas.
