I always take out of town guests here for a fun evening. The staff is very polite and pleasant.
I would say the food was very good, our son loved the mint chip gelatto and we loved the puree carrot soup. We were surprised you could not find a bottle of wine for under $50 on the wine list. The alcohol just seems extremely overpriced and a few of the meals seemed over priced for what you got. Overall it was good but I would want to move on to another restaurant in DC.
If you don't like tightly packed restuarants, this is not the place to you. Many two-tops mean you're in the middle of tinder-date-ville, but its a cozy place with a fun menu and delightful drinks.
Service was outstanding, unfortunately food was not quite as good as expected.
What we enjoyed most about our dining experience was the ability to have a conversation across the table without shouting. It is so rare today to find a restaurant that offers this . I did notice that Ghibellina had added sound dampeners in the ceiling and they played music as a background sound rather than filling the room with it so you need to talk above it. I do not know why more restaurants do not do this. The food was delicious and the service was very professional and prompt. All in all, a wonderful dining experience.
I am never disappointed when dining at Ghibellina. It is apparent that the chef and staff love food as much as their clients. The wine pairing is always on point. Just let the staff know what you enjoy from a Red, White or Sparkle: sit back and enjoy. I would highly recommend their Bistecca All Fiorentina and save the fat, and bone for soup stock! Best choice ever! The potatoes are delightful, and pair it with the gnocchi to finish it right and proper Italian way.
Have been to Ghibellina before for a private event and had excellent food, but our last visit was incredibly disappointing. Fried misto was unsalted and not very tasty, while all three pizzas were straight dough in the center (and one was burned on the bottom). Not sure what went wrong, but not what I expect for the high price we paid. Will skip next time in one of the other numerous very good Italian places in town.
Tables are too close together.
Enjoyable evening meal. Delicious appetizers and great pizza. The dessert was scrumptious. Would definitely go back.
I had the tagliatelle with an excellent meat sauce. My companion had the house salad and risotto cakes, also quite enjoyable. The service was friendly if a bit unpolished. I'll be dining there again.
Food was great, excellent service! Though is an Italian restaurant, there should always be the option of getting bread for the table.
Though service at the bar is a little slow.
Good experience, good food. The only downside was the table we sat at was in a high foot traffic area so the noise level was a bit higher than normal.
Truly amazing food! And the service couldn’t have been more helpful. Listen to what your servers recommend! The know what they’re talking about!!
Server was top notch excellent!!!
Great fun atmosphere with great food. We love it here
Food always good, service was average to below. Sat with no silverware after our app and when food came had to go find some, sat with no water multiple times, we’ve been before and had better results food is always tasty.
I go to ghibbelina regularly because the food is good and the staff is nice. This was a rarity in that the service was terrible as was the food. We ordered the chicken and the tuna. Both were overlooked and inedible. It was happy hour so we decided to order a pizza instead / in addition. I could not get anyone’s attention so when I ordered the pizza at 637 I was told hh was over. When I protested that we hadn’t been able to get anyone’s attention, the server said too bad. It was all in all a bad experience.
It was monday evening and the food was amazing...service was lacking or inexperienced
best italian restaurant experience in DC. Ambiance and food was like nyc or Florence. exvellent in all categories.
Great value for exemplary food. Pizza simple and good. Tiramisù is a must
Excellent all around, especially the attentive and efficient service from our waitress.
We were staying nearby in Dupont Circle and arrived late from out of town, so decided to give Ghibellina a try. First off, they are open fairly late, even on weeknights, which is great. It's a nice space and they had our table ready as requested. The food was nicely done and we had a pleasant cocktail to start, plus a bottle of wine. The only minor glitch was we ordered a salad and they didn't bring it, so we just ate the pasta mains. Not a giant problem in the grand scheme of things. Overall, the food was quite good and we enjoyed it and would come back here again.
Pasta was great. High tops tables for 3 feel crowded but otherwise had a good meal and a good time.
I liked the vibe but the food was mediocre and the pasta ruined by the spicyness. Lovely waitress.
Pasta with spicy tomato sauce, c4tispt rice cakes, pizza. All incredible. Service was very accommodating. We had a diabetic, and vegetarian, and a gluten free in our party. They were great!
I felt at home visiting DC from LA. Very good vibes!
The rib eye and also the chicken are prepared wonderfully and I’d highly recommend them both. Chris the waiter deserves mentioning as he was absolutely fantastic in knowledge as well as attentiveness. I’d send friends into this restaurant just so they could have the pleasure of having a true professional waiter wait on them. Atmosphere of restaurant is good as is table placement and atmosphere. Highly recommend this establishment to out of town visitors like us and I’m sure the locals are already very aware
We went on a Saturday night, so the restaurant was very crowded. The service was kind of slow and disorganized, and the noise level was so high we could barely hear each other across the table. It was also so dark where we were sitting that we had to use a cell phone flashlight to read the menu. On the plus side the food was excellent and the restaurant design is very cool.
My husband and I were very disappointed after our dinner Saturday at Ghibellina. While the meal and service was fantastic, we were rushed to leave our table while we still had wine in our glasses. We were told that another group was waiting for our table however we hadn't completely finished our bottle of wine. We felt that it was very rude of the staff and we shouldn't have been pushed out considering we were early for our reservation and at the restaurant less than an hour.
Enjoyed our dinner for the most part. Need to work on servers being more attentive on a Saturday night. And disappointed with chicken (under hot brick). Have had this meal in the past and it was so much better. New chef? Tonight the chicken was over cooked and was on top of what was like a thick bottled balsamic glaze. This is not the same dish I have had in the past. All else was great.
Food was very good. Lighting a little too dark for practical purposes- we were I an alcove and it was hard to see what was on the menu and the food when it came!
Bathroom mirrors have an “antiqued” finish so there’s really no way to see yourself-not a huge problem- but I do like to make sure I don’t have lettuce in my teeth.
Awesome food and busy vibrant scene. Service was excellent
It was simply marvelous, delicious, and wonderful!
We're regulars at Ghibellina--and that's saying something, since we rarely go to the same restaurant twice. Ghibellina is our one exception. You can't go wrong with the fungi pizza, which we order every time (eight types of imported mushrooms + cheese = heaven). I also love the wine options, the salads, and the service is always outstanding.
Terrible. Host is extremely rude. Save your money and go elsewhere.
It was OK - expected slightly better food - Hanna our waitress was very nice - pasta didn’t taste homemade - skip the Panzenella - stick with pizza
Dinner was wonderful but when we arrived, the person at the desk said we didn't have a reservation. I don't know if it was the restaurant's fault or that of Open Table. We did get in finally but had to argue our way in. Mary Braden
Our favorite restaurant in this area for when we come to town to see our son. The cauliflower and risotto cake apps were amazing! My son and husband love the pizzas, they each get their own! I had the pan seared halibut and it was delicious.
Our pick for our first night and DC and this was a great selection! Everything we had was delicious, our server was very attentive and informative. An overall great dining experience!
Great food and good price. Will definitely dine here again.
