We went on a Saturday night, so the restaurant was very crowded. The service was kind of slow and disorganized, and the noise level was so high we could barely hear each other across the table. It was also so dark where we were sitting that we had to use a cell phone flashlight to read the menu. On the plus side the food was excellent and the restaurant design is very cool.
My husband and I were very disappointed after our dinner Saturday at Ghibellina. While the meal and service was fantastic, we were rushed to leave our table while we still had wine in our glasses. We were told that another group was waiting for our table however we hadn't completely finished our bottle of wine. We felt that it was very rude of the staff and we shouldn't have been pushed out considering we were early for our reservation and at the restaurant less than an hour.
Enjoyed our dinner for the most part. Need to work on servers being more attentive on a Saturday night. And disappointed with chicken (under hot brick). Have had this meal in the past and it was so much better. New chef? Tonight the chicken was over cooked and was on top of what was like a thick bottled balsamic glaze. This is not the same dish I have had in the past. All else was great.
Food was very good. Lighting a little too dark for practical purposes- we were I an alcove and it was hard to see what was on the menu and the food when it came!
Bathroom mirrors have an “antiqued” finish so there’s really no way to see yourself-not a huge problem- but I do like to make sure I don’t have lettuce in my teeth.
Awesome food and busy vibrant scene. Service was excellent
It was simply marvelous, delicious, and wonderful!
We're regulars at Ghibellina--and that's saying something, since we rarely go to the same restaurant twice. Ghibellina is our one exception. You can't go wrong with the fungi pizza, which we order every time (eight types of imported mushrooms + cheese = heaven). I also love the wine options, the salads, and the service is always outstanding.
Terrible. Host is extremely rude. Save your money and go elsewhere.
It was OK - expected slightly better food - Hanna our waitress was very nice - pasta didn’t taste homemade - skip the Panzenella - stick with pizza
Dinner was wonderful but when we arrived, the person at the desk said we didn't have a reservation. I don't know if it was the restaurant's fault or that of Open Table. We did get in finally but had to argue our way in. Mary Braden
Our favorite restaurant in this area for when we come to town to see our son. The cauliflower and risotto cake apps were amazing! My son and husband love the pizzas, they each get their own! I had the pan seared halibut and it was delicious.
Our pick for our first night and DC and this was a great selection! Everything we had was delicious, our server was very attentive and informative. An overall great dining experience!
Great food and good price. Will definitely dine here again.
The only downside was the noise level. The food was superb, and service excellent. The "Gnocchi con Salsa crudo" had light pillows of gnocchi, and not too many. The sauce was really the highlight of this dish. The same was true of the "Paccheri con Ragu di Agnello." The pasta was there but did not overwhelm the succulent sauce. Too often restaurants pile on the pasta, so that the sauce is lost. Not so at Ghibellina. The "Affogato al Caffe'" was the perfect finish. YUM!
Food is kind of always a fail, especially the steak and eggs. But the biscuits are the only thing that keep me coming back.
Upstairs amazing- basement side entrance same food live jazz- very cool vibe
Service of waiter downstairs was 3star...all others were quite attentive- would have given him one star- the friendliness of others brought it up for him.
Food was great as usual. I highly recommend their pizzas and the porterhouse steak for two! It's the best steak in town.
Top flight pizza. Just like Italy. Always good. We dined at the bar and we’re very comfortable
Pizza is delicious and served with scissors for easy cutting! Staff was very friendly and accommodating
Delicious food, my fav was the MARGHERITA DI BUFALA Pizza. Our waiter was top notch!
It was totally fine. Nothing to write home about. Prices were totally reasonable.
Dinner was delicious and beautifully presented.
Love Ghibellina! I first came here with my daughter on college tours last April and had to bring my husband here after dropping her off for the first semester at GWU. Flatbreads are amazing and the tiramisu is to die for -really! I would definitely go back the next time we are visiting and would highly recommend for a casual dinner!
Regular at ghibellina. Previous brunch was a disappointment but decided to give it another try hoping that last time was just an off day. However, again brunch was bad. Only enjoyable item was the ghibellina salad. Eggs came cold and so did the bacon. Had the rest redo, second time same problem and the bacon was tasteless. I’ve never experienced that but there was no flavor to the bacon at all. Based on the last two experiences will not be returning and wasting more $ on below avg food. Too bad as this was our go to spot.
We went to celebrate our engagement but the experience did not end up feeling very celebratory. It got off to a good start—when ghibellina called to confirm, they congratulated us on our engagement. But once we arrived, things went down hill quickly.
Our waitress showed up to the table 5 times in the first 5-10 minutes pushing us to order. We started with a bottle of wine but she kept coming back for our food order. Despite it being only 8:15 and the restaurant being half empty, she warned us that the kitchen closed at 9:30 (over an hour later) and if there was a sudden rush of orders they might not be able to make our food unless we ordered quickly. We were not offered bread right away like the tables next to us. Then, once our food came and we got dessert, the waitress came back and cleared our plates without asking if we were finished. So we just lost the last 1/3 of our cheesecake. Not how we had hoped to celebrate our engagement.
OUTSTANDING FOOD AND SERVICE!!!
First time to the restaurant, visited during Restaurant week. Great food and amazing service.
I recommend for the following reasons... Good food, good ambience, good location.
This was one of the fastest meals I've ever had. The server made a delightful recommendation for a wine that I truly enjoyed. We both ordered pasta that was delivered before we even had a chance to eat the tasty bread and olive oil. Our pasta dishes were spot on and the pizza looked delicious as well. I can't complain that it was fast, but I feel like we might have enjoyed it even more if we would have lingered. I'd go back if I lived in town.
Every dish I have had has been outstanding, and the service was excellent. Though the menu felt fairly limited in my opinion.
Hadn't been here in about 2 years, but have been really wanting to come back for the great food. However, the awesome food was unfortunately ruined by terrible service. Despite OpenTable giving me the option and me specifically selecting standard seating in lieu of hightop seating, we were seated at a hightop. The host said there were no other tables available. We were then rushed through the meal. We are asked to order constantly after sitting down, and once ordering, our appetizer came in literally 1 minute. Our main courses then came very shortly after (maybe 5 minutes), before we had even finished the appetizer. Very unpleasant experience.
Great place for a nice dinner. Atmosphere was great and food was amazing.
It was great, though very hot inside and could benefit from use of AC
Below average service, average food, below average drinks. Would not go back.
This is exactly how a pizza should be. Perfect crust and fresh toppings. We all shared our meals and the appetizers and pastas were very good to. I will eat here next time I am in DC and my son who lives here will recommend it to friends and associates.
Very nice restaurant the omelette and pizza were very good! Service was very attentive.
I enjoyed the veal my date enjoyed the squid ink pasta. Excellent service from bar and kitchen staff. I would definitely recommend.
One of my favorite DC staples. Amazing pizza and great wine list
Food and service were really good. Wine list is great. Forget conversation though. Far too noisy and we had to yell to hear each other. Oh and the bar is fun. Good bartenders.
