I was the first to arrive for lunch. Was greeted by the receptionist and seated. She immediately asked if I wanted to start off with a drink and quickly provided a nice chianti and glass of water. Very friendly lady. I looked around the room and she gave me a good history of the restaurant, sensing my curiosity. When my companion arrived she also asked about starters. Finally, she gave us menus and advised on the special of the day. My friend had the lasagna and raved about it. I had the stuffed flounder and it was fantastic. All in all, this was a great dining experience and I'm looking forward to returning.
No question. I have been here for many years but it was my first visit. Reminded me of the Italian restaraunts in New York in my youth. Food is good. Service is prompt and price is very reasonable compared to other Italian restaraunts in the area. Lunch time was quiet.
Siamo stati molto bene il cibo ottimo e ottima qualità prezzo. Ci tornerei...il direttore e italiano ed molto contento quando i turisti italiano vanno a cenare da lui...
Delicious food in a low key family restaurant atmosphere. Excellent service. Who could ask for more? My “go-to” place when in DC.
Very enjoyable experience. Warmly hospitable, excellent food.
My boyfriend and I had one of the most amazing dining experiences here. We were visiting out of town for my boyfriend’s 30th birthday. I requested a certain table I saw on google, asked for a specific cake and they went above and beyond to make our night so special. Will definitely visit next time we are in the area!
Good Northern Italian food and wonderful service in this pretty little dining room. We were graciously greeted and served, and even with two large parties, the room was quiet enough to enjoy conversation w our meal and with a feeling of privacy because tables are not too close together. We are out of towners who always stay in Dupont Circle area, and we WILL return to this delightful spot!
We’ve been frequenting Trattu since our first date nearly 34 years ago. We even weathered a hiatus when they closed for a few years. Though some of our faves are no longer there, not to worry-there are many fabulous choices!
The ambiance is charming and warm; it’s a small, candle-lit dining room with plenty of space between tables and you can actually hear yourself talk.
Our favorite cocktails are Kir Royales, which did not disappoint.
We started with prosciutto Di Parma & melon, which was the perfect way to start off the summer, and a salad with walnuts, apples, & Gorgonzola. The prosciutto was memorable.
We both had veal, which we only have once a year or so and it was prepared perfectly and well-seasoned, complemented by angel hair pasta and fresh veggies.
Dessert rounded off a special meal—gelato with cherries and liqueur, and classic, Tiramisu.
Another perfect meal at a hidden gem— still fabulous after more than three decades!
A little NY gem in the heart of DC. Food is superb and a nice little place for celebrations, meetings or just a good meal.
Very neat place, cozy inside and feels like a hidden locals only gem. The service is great and the food was overall good. My girlfriend got the seafood stew and really liked it! I got the Veal prosciutto and it was decent but kinda chewy/ tough. I wish I got the Marsala instead, it looked better from mom what I saw around me. We will come back and I will try a different entree.
A special place. Quiet. Old school. A place where the kitchen turns out excellent tortellini in brodo or gnocchi.
Lots if space between tables. So a good place for a quiet lunch. Skip the house special veal. At least during our visit it was rubbery and not very interesting.
Overall a good place right off the busy Dupont Circle area.
I had a most enjoyable lunch at this tiny below-Street level Italian restaurant restaurant that I literally walked past several times. Google maps doesn’t provide great guidance, so my appetite was great when I finally found it! I wasn’t disappointed at all. The chef customized my veal tortellini dish with real mushrooms and prosciutto. It brought back memories of the tortellini alla pana e prosciutto that I used to enjoy in Europe.
Somehow, the restaurant also found out that I was celebrating my birthday. I was surprised with a slice of tiramisu and a lit candle!
I will definitely be back! I just hope that I can find the restaurant again.
Probably one of the if not the best Italian meal I have ever had!!!
Really nice place. Great for a date or business. Very clean with nice decor.
Our server, Katia, was wonderful. The dishes came out rather quickly and were hot and delicious.
The Tiramisu was without a doubt the best I’ve ever had! We would definitely return.
Wonderful old world italian restaurant. Food was great! The noise level was quiet. We were able to hear each other. Would definately go back.
Everything was great! Pollo Marsala was a perfect size, angel hair pasta was great as was the spinach side.
Nice little out of the way location makes it intimate and cool. Great service.
The food was excellent. The bread was ghastly. In an Italian restaurant that's unimaginable.
The food was good, the service excellent, always nice to go to this cozy restaurant
Best Italian restaurant in DC. Their subtle, delicious sauces are different for every pasta dish. The eggplant appetizer is unique and easily the best we’ve ever ate.
Wonderful food. Great service. Only think not up to par with everything else was the bread. Warmed bread would have made it perfect.
Our favorite place in DC! Best authentic Italian food in the city and friendliest staff you can wish for. Thank you and we'll be back very soon!
A wonderful place for a dinner. Very friendly and warm staff.
Welcoming, inviting, great service and solid home Italian food! Just what we were looking for after a day touring DC!
We love Giovanni’s! We come every time we are in D.C.! Closest thing to being in Italy! Great food, service & ambiance!
Meal started with martinis; the glasses were filled halfway and were just not good. Food was mediocre; soggy tiny salad on a huge plate miniature cannoli that were literally about 1” x 3” for $7.50 - you got two but still. For the price, you can do much better at Otello or even Dupont Italian Kitchen.
Booked restaurant as close to our hotel and was out first night in Washington. We were delayed at the airport and so had to amend our booking by 1 hour. The restaurant were fine about changing the booking and it was a busy Friday evening. When we arrived we did have to wait a little while for a table but that was ok. Food good , very noisy however as restaurant small and tables close together. Added to ambience
very very enjoyable neighborhood treat - the restaurant is so cute inside, it really reminded me of Italy. the service was congenial, well informed and fun. highly recommend this little hideaway.
Small, charming restaurant with great food and excellent service!
Server was very helpful. Wine by the glass pour was very generous. Lasagna was good, veal McCoy was excellent. Caprice salad was very very good. We’ll be back.
There are many good selections and all are reliable. Pasta and fish entrees and appetizers make an overall very good time.
I have be eating at Trattu for over 20 years and continue to go back again and again.
Food was delicious, but we waited almost an hour for our first course. Will give it another try.
Cozy, quaint, perfect service and delicious food! This was such a lucky find for our team of business travelers.
Authentic Italian in a quaint setting ... Old school Neighborhood Italian joint... really good food.
Nice old world Italian spot for locals that looks to have been around for a long time. Friendly staff and cozy dining room. I felt the red sauce was on the salty side and the food was ok.
I dined with 3 other people from out of town who thought it was great, so I guess it falls somewhere between ok and great.
If you want the local feel and don't want the chain and restaurant row experience this might be a little spot to check out.
We had a large crowd for the Rock and Roll Half Marathon event. They were so accommodating for our Pasta meal -- before the race event. Lots of picky eaters, did not upset their kitchen. The pasta was delicious and authentic. We all had a great meal before our event. THANK YOU!! Giovanni Trattu..
Per usual the food, service and atmosphere were excellent. They treat us like family!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in DC. The food and the service are fantastic! The veal and all the classic pasta dishes are wonderful too!
Lovely small, reasonably-priced local restaurant with friendly service. Our dinner was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience, except that the food itself varied between very good and not very good. Filet of sole was the evenings' special, but it came out very mushy -- tasted good, but mushy. Olives in the martinis seemed very old, bland and soggy. yet the antipasto plate was delicious and the olives on that plate were good. So, for a very nice local evening in a relaxing and reasonably-priced restaurant, I recommend the restaurant, but don't have high expectations of the food.
