The food was good. But I didn’t understand how I paid $50 for reservations it’s was just paying gratuity at end. I don’t like where they pushing the $200 special on us when I could’ve just order the things we want individually still came out the same price. The waitress let us know she had split in 4 ways to let us know she needed a tip.

This was a very laid back spot and the ambience was something we were not expecting. The cocktails were on point.

We definitely enjoyed ourselves. They have $12 valet, so you don’t have to park on the street. They had someone playing the piano at one point. The ambience gives “date vibes”. The food was delicious and our server was very attentive.

Food was quite good but entree brought out way too early- all in the middle of our salads. Seemed rush service . Valet parking too expensive and lot was empty- perhaps Friday and Saturday nights when quite busy but ridiculous to pay when the lot is empty

For context, we go to many top downtown Detroit restaurants that are considered "fine dining", numerous times, and expected a similar experience here, due to pricing and being advertised as "fine dining". Regarding La Dolce Vita Detroit: The bread provided at the start was not good, soft and crumbly. They put too much parmesan cheese in the olive oil, which absorbed all of the oil. The appetizers were greasy, not hot, too much sauce, and unedible, only ate a bite and sent it back. Per the waiter, and the bill provided, the chef required him to charge for the bad appetizers, which has never happened to us before, especially at a pricey restaurant where the food should be great. My husband had some minestrone soup which tasted ok, but very tomatoey. He ate that anyway, as he was hungry. At the point we learned that they were going to charge us for the two unedible appetizers, we decided to leave without ordering entrees. If the restaurant had not charged us for the appetizers, we would have tried more items on the menu, but that was inexcusable. We ended up spending over $80, including a tip for the waiter, $12 plus tip for the valet, for the approximate half hour we were there. The waiter was embarrassed, but we told him it was not his fault, and no manager or the chef came to ask us about the problems with the food. We ate outside, and the environment itself was very nice, but the food ruined the whole experience for us.

Have been here before but it has been some time. The restaurant is very well done, love the courtyard and the interior is charming. The food is genuinely good, tasty and well plated. We were a party of 5, we are a group that gets together monthly and goes to different venues and this is what really put a damper on our evening. The restaurant would not allow seperate checks, our waitress got the manager and he sternly refused, the restaurant was not busy at all but they would not hear of it. It seems to put off the waitress and although courteous, not a good experience for the rest of the evening. So be aware of this policy if you want to go here with friends who would rather have their own bill.
