The 44-acre estate Rancho Encinal was built for geophysicist and Texas Instruments’ founder Everett Lee DeGolyer and his wife Nell. The home was designed by Los Angeles architects Derman Scott and Burton Schutt in 1939 and Dallas landscape architect Arthur Berger, was hired to create the 4½-acre formal gardens which overlook White Rock Lake. Key elements include a magnolia allée, wisteria arbor, and rose garden. In 1976, the estate became a key component of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.The DeGolyer Estate was listed on the National Register in 1978.Surrounded by the Arboretum’s natural beauty, the restaurant seamlessly blends history, nature, and culinary excellence. Guests can enjoy fresh American café fare, including seasonal specialties, in a serene atmosphere with both indoor seating in the elegant Dining Room.

El Fenix® Mexican Restaurants are as much a part of the Dallas tradition as the State Fair of Texas. Both have roots dating back to the 19th century. The birth of Tex-Mex food, El Fenix-style, began in the 1890s with the birth of Miguel (Mike) Martinez. In search of greater opportunity, 20-year-old Miguel left Mexico and settled in Dallas, Texas. Miguel, now Mike, learned the art of food preparation working in the kitchen of the posh Oriental Hotel in downtown Dallas. Mike married Faustina Porres, also from Mexico and shortly thereafter, opened Martinez Café in 1916. That same year, the first of their eight children was born. In 1918, Mike renamed his restaurant El Fenix Café. The first menu featured mostly American food, but Mike soon began to offer his guests more exotic tastes with combination plates of Mexican-American dishes. Over time, the El Fenix menu evolved into a new innovative style called Tex-Mex and has been copied… but never duplicated!

    This was my third time going to the Harvest Tea Room, and it is always such a beautiful experience from the food and drink pairings to the atmosphere and service. I love that everything comes in a bite size piece with complex flavor combinations I would never have thought of. It’s an excellent way to expand your palette and enjoy some wonderful teas. I genuinely believe the earl grey tea and the peach cinnamon hibiscus teas were two of the best I’ve ever tasted, and the food complimented it all perfectly. This experience is a wonderful way to indulge and spend time with friends or loved ones, and it’s always worth every penny!

    Excellent food for the affordable price and lovely service. Thank you to the waitress who was working on her bday and gave us those cute stickers. She made Mother’s Day all that more special.

    Mandy, our server was outstanding!!! Quite the professional. We always love the food Red Lobster has to offer. My add-on lobster was cold, but everything else was perfect. Highly recommend!!!
