Why Christine loves it: “Brasero is a Latin- and South American-inspired restaurant with lots of wood-fired cooking, making everything feel a little more special. Some of my highlights are the Wagyu with chimichurri and the grilled seafood, and almost everything on the menu is perfect for sharing. They also offer several group dining options, making it a great choice for a celebration. And most notably, Brasero was named a 2026 James Beard Award semifinalist!”

Why Christine loves it: “Tucked away behind Pilsen Yards, The Alderman is an intimate, dark, and moody cocktail lounge serving elevated drinks you won’t find just anywhere. You’ll find beautifully made classics alongside creative cocktails featuring unique ingredients like taro root, rhubarb gin, and chocolate-hazelnut foam. It’s the kind of cool, vibey spot where you’ll want to settle in and stay awhile.”

Why Christine loves it: “Gale Street Inn is a true Chicago institution, known for its classic ribs, dark wood bar, green neon lights, and strong martinis. It’s under new ownership, but you’ll still find the same beloved ribs, along with a great burger and plenty of sides. They also have live music on the weekends, making it a fun spot for dinner and drinks. It’s one of those places every Chicagoan should experience at least once.”

Why Christine loves it: “Piccolo Sogno might be one of the best alfresco dining spots in Chicago. Their gorgeous patio makes you feel like you’ve been transported into a garden far away from the city. I love all their housemade pastas, but the ravioli and spaghetti neri are my go-tos. And if you’re into wine, they have an excellent wine program!”

Why Christine loves it: “Another classic Chicago institution, Shaw’s Crab House has been around since 1984. I love the beautiful wooden bar, old-school Chicago signs, and, of course, a great martini. The seafood is always incredibly fresh; you can’t go wrong with the grand seafood tower, oysters, or lobster bisque. And don’t sleep on their happy hour!”

Why Christine loves it: “This might be the ultimate date-night spot. It’s dark and moody with candles lit throughout, lots of small plates to share, and excellent food. If I were going on a first date again, this is where I’d go! The steak tartare and roasted carrots are favorites, and I always love trying one of their pastas or rotating seasonal dishes.”

Why Christine loves it: “Eden’s newer, larger space features an amazing on-site greenhouse that helps inspire its seasonal menu. Chef Devon Quinn is always changing things up with recent additions like creamed corn and cabbage and a sweet corn crème danish. The dishes are creative and their brunch is excellent too!”

Why Christine loves it: “When I have out-of-town guests, this is a must. The patio sits along the Ogden slip, and you can see the Navy Pier weekly fireworks here. But patio aside, the pizza is great. It’s thin crust with a nice crust that’s soft and chewy, but doesn’t fall apart when you eat it. My go-to is the Jay Pie with housemade sausage and the Cup and Char pepperoni.”

Why Christine loves it: “With a recent huge renovation and a gorgeous rooftop patio now overlooking Rush street, Carmine’s is great to bring your family too. The chicken parmesan can feed a small army and the orecchiette is delicious. Another favorite of mine is the Italian Ice cocktail, it’s like a spritz dessert and I dream about it.”
