Unfortunately, this wasn’t a good experience this time. There was a long black hair in my oysters. No, I wasn’t charged for my dish but the manager never came over to apologize until I brought it up to our favorite server, Joyce. She always goes above & beyond so it was no fault to her at all. Maya is one of our favorite places and I’m upset this experience even happened to us. I wish the manager cared enough to come over to ight after the incident and make things right. They charged the table for everything else, even my dessert that took home because after seeing this hair, I was done.

We had a nice meal on a Thursday night. The four of us sat in a booth in the main room by the bar, and it was surprisingly quiet. Service was attentive and timely, but not rushed. Started with the fried oysters which were as good as usual and then two of us had the sauteed trout which was also as good as always, one had the catfish cakes were delicious, and the fourth had the ribs which were very flavorable and tender and is always the case, the sides were excellent as well. All in all very pleasant evening with very good food.

Excellent menu choices. Two of us enjoyed the well-seasoned rainbow trout, the other was happy to make an entree with the choose-4-sides option. The only disappointment was the roasted broccoli: too well-done on the outside, too little on the inside. We sat in a booth in the bar area, where the atmosphere was lively (big game on TV) but not overwhelming. Conversation was easy.

Love the quiet atmosphere there, no need to scream across the table. This is a repeat visit and we were again very happy with the experience. The fried green tomatoes are a MUST and the appetizer is generous, so easy to share between 2 people. As main dishes go, the Catfish (blackened) was wonderful: perfect balance of flavors and the sherry butter was just great. The fingerlings and roast broccoli were good complements. A favorite for us in Charlottesville.
