Medium Rare - Cleveland Park
Medium Rare is one of my favorite restaurants. Everyone I’ve brought there has enjoyed it also. It is terrific for all ages.... child friendly.
Wonderful food...bottomless mimosas were continually filled! Never had to ask for anything...will return!
Medium Rare never disappoints me! The steak is good - the fries are great and it is a great location! My server on this particular night was outstanding! Made me feel like I was a VIP! Their Cocktails are a bit overpriced and the tables are a bit too close for my taste but overall - I find it to be the perfect place for a casual movie and dinner date!
Always excellent, simple, and well executed. With only one thing on the menu, service is quick but not rushed. The salad is well portioned and tasty. Steak and frites are always perfect, and the second portions are always a treat. If they offered third serving, I’d honestly take it.
Perfect evening. Great food. Great service. This was our second visit, though we had to plan a night without my vergetarian son. Steak, fries and salad- that's all it is. The steak is cooked to perfection and everyone gets seconds! Plus as an added bonus, French lessons while you attend to your full bladder in the rest rooms. We have decided to go back every time we are in DC. (Worth the drive from Worcester, MA!)
Noise level WAY, WAY too high. Had problems with waiter who spoke too softly and who we couldn't understand. Great food (both steak and veggie option), seconds offered.
Medium Rare is lively and attracts families, couples, and groups of friends. The meal starts with bread and salad. The bread was delicious and the salad passable. When our dinner arrived, neither the steak or french fries were hot or looked particularly appealing and there was no difference in my steak, which I had asked be cooked medium rare, and my companion's, who had asked for medium. However, when they brought out seconds, the steak both looked and tasted much better - I wish it had been that way on round one. It is definitely a good value, particularly if you are not drinking wine, etc. Our service was very good at the beginning, but waned as the evening went on - eventually we had to tap another server on the shoulder to take our payment. Medium Rare is an easy neighborhood place to get decent food for a good price. If you are looking for a great steak, I would suggest you go elsewhere.
Always eat at Nedium Rare when visiting my son at Georgetown. Delicious food and lots of it!
Had a great time at Medium Rare! The fixe prix dinner menus make it easy to split the bill. They have Delirium Belgium beers. They offer refills on fries and steak. They will offer it to go. The staff were incredibly friendly, especially the manager, Paulos. It's always nice to see the GM stop by the table to see how we are doing. With great food and service, I couldn't have asked for anything else.
I had higher expectations about the food. The bread was the best part of the meal, it's really good. The second serving of meat was over cooked and since it's a very lean cut it felt dry and with too much condiment. The price is fair.
We have always enjoyed this location. Tried Bethesda twice and disappointed both times.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. The brunch choices were superb and the nice birthday sparklers were an added treat.
The food is edible. They only make one thing. So they do it well enough... Our overall sense of the place was... meh.
It's strictly a meat and potatos kind of place. The portions were generous and the food tasty. Great value and attentive service. Since it's all pre-fixe, food comes out quickly once you tell them how you want your steak prepared. The dessert are large (yummy) and intended to be shared.
Loud and crowded. Waitstaff was less than patient/friendly. Food is OK but overpriced.
All I can say is amazing! Get the French toast!!!!!
Focus, focus, focus....just bread, salad and steak/frites on the menu, but all done superbly and for a price that is hard to beat in Washington DC. Wines that accompany the simple menu, also very good and good value. Definitely a place to return to!
Great concept restaurant. You need to like steak.
The place was closed, no sign, nothing just closed
Food was great as always. We usually go to the one in Bethesda but we came to this one since we were in the area. The service was awful. We were blatantly ignored while tables around us were priorities possibly because we didn’t get a bottle of wine but just drinks. We had to remind our waiter about the second portion and about our dessert. I love their food but the CP location has trash service.
Loved our time there. Before we have had mixed service, but once we told the manager about it, he was more than ecstatic to give us service that was over the top. A good business is one that will change your experience based on your feedback as they see you more as an asset to them rather than a liability or debt. I highly recommend this place, not just for the secret sauce, but for taking the initiative to be better for customers.
A friend was in town so myself, my friend, and my partner went to Medium Rare for dinner on a Saturday night. We made reservations the day before fairly easily. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Our waitress was very knowledablge about the wines and guided us to an excellent choice. Dinner at Medium Rare is pre fixe - you get a bread, salad, steak cooked how you'd like, and fries. The bread and salad were fine, nothing too special. The steak and fries were both quite delicious and come with a secret french sauce! I normally don't like sauce but dang this was tasty. But here's the kicker: you get SECONDS included in the price. I think it's something like $24 before tax/tip for a steak and fries dinner that includes seconds of both the steak and fries. What an amazing deal! I will definitely be coming back. My partner and I will probably dine here about once a month. This has to be one of the best deals in the DMV area.
The food was tasty, service was quick, and the mimosas delicious.
Food is always good. We tend to “double salad” versus the fries but occasionally just get fries too. We also tend to get the sauce on the side. Our waiter was excellent. We tried the Bethesda one twice but much prefer the Cleveland park one
This was not the first time there. The food, Service and ambiance is consistently excellent. The staff is friendly, and the entire concept is great! Only recommendation: we now have a little one (under 2) and maybe a (small) kids choice menu would be cool cause the tiny ones don’t usually eat steak yet!
What’s not to love? Love the steak frites concept- easy delicious and fun and great atmosphere! ( plus generally lunch the next day! ) my 10 yo had her birthday here tonight- her choice! Super nice staff gave her a cool sparkly candle/ mini firework! Lol. Perfect family dinner place for us.. ( we prefer this location over the Bethesda location- more interesting street scene to look at - not as loud music as Bethesda so Easier to hear .. but honestly - love them both!
We love going to Medium Rare in Cleveland Park - it's by far the best location. Always great food and good service. It was a little off when we went last Friday night - they were busier than usual and it took a long time to get our salads, but we knew that was unusual for them. Always looking forward to going back, will remain loyal!
love the place, I've been going there for years and the food is always on point. My only issue lately is that the service is a bit slower than what I got used to. There was more than one waiter working in our section so I think our drink orders and section serving of our meal took a while to reach us.
That being said I still love the place and always recommend it to friends
Unfortunately Medium Rare has lost a step. We used to frequent this location several years ago and it was great. The service was not great, food only ok. Not what it used to be.
Delicious gluten free salad, steak, and fries, with an amazing secret sauce. All for a great price. Was a bit loud late on a Sunday evening, but still would return!
Michelle was great. Good brunch, strong cocktails, rustic & lively atmosphere.
So enjoyed our brunch. Food was delicious and our server was the best! Great value and so fun! Can't wait to go back....
Our dinner was excellent, our waiter was super friendly and even spaced out our courses so we didn’t feel rushed!
The food was ok. It did not live up to the expectations on the websites I wisited
No choice menus with good quality food. A bit noisy' excellent/attentive wait staff.
This is the third, possibly fourth, brunch I’ve had at this location. I don’t think I’ll be back.
Everything that went wrong:
1) Our server couldn’t seem to understand that we had a vegetarian in the group. She ordered the egg frites and sausage without the sausage. This concept seemed very foreign to our waitress.
2) I ordered the steak and eggs but asked that my eggs be “scrambled hard” (meaning not runny like they usually are). Our server informed me that the food is “pre-made” and they can’t do that. Apparently not only is the food not fresh, but the kitchen isn’t capable of throwing the “pre-made” eggs in a frying pan for a few additional minutes.
3) The bread that comes with your meal never made it to our table.
4) We asked for ketchup, bread (that never arrived), and more mimosas once our server came to check on us. She seemed very confused and came back TWO times to verify what we asked for.
5) Another female server (not ours), was overheard telling one of the bussers that whenever she eats the food there she gets sick and gassy. Not exactly what you want to hear when you’re in the middle of your meal.
The value of the brunch is great, but everything else is garbage.
Loved this concept and the restaurant! It was so good! Its probably not for everyone as they only have 1 thing on the menu, but for a carnivore like me...it was perfect. Getting my drink refilled was my only issue. I finally got up, went to the bar, and got it myself. Otherwise, everything else was absolutely perfect!
The only problem was we were seated in the second room and the vents for the air conditioning were blowing directly down on us. But better to be chilly than too hot.
The key lime pie serving was definitely large enough to share.
Soooo my quest to find my go to restaurant in the Cleveland Park area has ended. Medium Rare (and no you don't have to just get medium rare 😁) is amazing. The concept is entirely genius!!! From first walking in the door the experience started off well and lasted throughout the meal. The menu is pretty straight forward I started with my strawberry gimlet as recommended by my waiter Azmie (he is one of the best I have had in a LONG time) next came the hot bread which is beyond tasty with the butter, then the salad with a Dijon base dressing which was scrumptious, and next came the steak and fries with the secret sauce which is just beyond good!!! One thing that totally surprised me was YOU GET A SECOND PORTION OF STEAK!!! I was completely in awe and it came with more sauce!!! I literally couldn't have asked for more. To top it all off we had to get dessert, Azmie reccomended the Red Velvet cake which was very moist, flavorful, and gigantic! Overall I give Medium Rare 👍👍 2 thumbs up and will definitely be back.
If you're a college kid looking to eat a steak for cheap, this is your place. If you're anyone else, stay away. The music was so loud that I had to yell to talk to the person across the table from me - it was like we were in a club. You also have no menu choices. Everyone is given the same thing - some bread, a basic salad, and a steak with fries. The steak was flavorless, over-cooked, and swimming in a mysterious thick brown sauce.
