Namaste is more than just a greeting; it means “I salute the Gods within you.” What is Namaste? It is a manner of greeting used by many Hindus, Taoists and Buddhists as a form of reference to those we greet. Commonly written “Namaste,” it is pronounced as “nam-a-stay” with the first two “a’s” as the first “a” in America and the “ay” as in tip of the tongue pressing against the upper front teeth with no air passing. Nepal, a country of amazing extremes, is the home of the world's highest mountains, historic cities and the forested plains where the lordly tigers and the great one horned rhinoceros trundle at ease. Nepal has a population of more than 30 million people made up of different races living in different regions, with diverse cultures, languages and dialects. The Gurungs and Magars live mainly in the west. The Rais, Limbus and the Sunuwars inhabit the slopes in the Himalayan region. The Newars constitute an important ethnic group of the capital valley Kathmandu. There are Tharus, Yadavas, Satars, Rajvanshis and Dhimals in the Terai region. The Brahmans, Chhetris and Thakuris are spread generally over all parts of the Kingdom.
