This place is very nice inside and the service was excellent. The food was good. The cost of the meal however was ridiculously expensive. We had 4 rolls (1 of them an avocado roll for a kid), chicken teriyaki, 1 glass of wine, 1 ginger ale & 2 Arnold Palmers and the bill was just over $200. They charged for every little thing. Every refill of Arnold palmers and the glasses were very small. Every little extra sauce for spicy mayo or teriyaki. Everything was an extra charge. Of all the nice restaurants we ate at while in NYC, this one was felt like we were being ripped off unfortunately. Would not go back.
The servers knew nothing about the sake and never offered to get a more knowledgeable person to help. When the omakase finally arrived 40 min after ordering the servers described —incorrectly—what fish we were being served. And when we ask to speak to the manager about the excessive wait for our food he came out and before we said a word he explained that “sushi takes time to prepare and we should not order it if we are not willing to wait.” The floor was dirty with food scraps.
We will not be going back.
Pricy for what u get, especially on the fix price of the fix mbus. Small potion.
Good place, good food
I had never experienced such bad service at a restaurant before, let alone at an upscale one.
I ordered a glass of draft beer, and the glass was stained with lipstick. Yuk!!! The waitress never apologized. Then I ordered green tea, and it was lukewarm. I told her it was not hot, then she brought me a little warmer tea in a cup with dirty marks outside. Yuk!!!
On top of all that, the food was horrible, and the price was ridiculous.
Overpriced. Nothing special. Just plan sushi.
They must have changed the chef or their strategy. Rice was drier and was not seasoned right for sushi.
Nare Sushi met my expectations; good value for money. It's good to have a decent Japanese restaurant in that location. I do not want to pay outrageous prices all the time. This one is fine.
Excellent recommendations from server
Excellent Quality Fish
We have been to Nare Sushi in the past and always enjoyed their sushi. While they offer lunch deals for good value, there is no such option for dinner, unfortunately. the service is very friendly and super attentive. Also, the ambiance is nice and quiet.
Horrible. So many other great places to go avoid this one.
1. Homeless sleeping in building lobby.
2. “premium” wagyu was 50% gristle. Not edible.
3. Friends pre fixe meal came out so slow that three of us finished our meals and waited 20 minutes for the rest of her meal to come. Waitress smugly said “order more food”. No apologies.
This restaurant delivers a ton of value. I lived in Japan for years and am very picky. This place does it right and would satisfy any salaryman.
We had dinner there. We were 3 in my party. The restaurant was empty service was regular. And food average but price really high. I dont think I will ever be back
The best service, drinks, and food in New York. Attention is impeccable. Fresh food and delicious.
We made an early reservation through open table and it had an "offer" which were drink specials. When we get to the restaurant, the waitress tells us that those prices are only available if you sit at the bar. This is not written anywhere on open table. Otherwise, the food is tasty. Expensive, but tasty.
Amazing omakase experience!
Food was so delicious.
LOVE THIS PLACE! AWESOME FOOD, SERVICE AND PEOPLE!!!
Valentine’s Day one day after
I would recommend it to my friends only for celebrating important days, like anniveries etc. One more thing i need to mention here is that the time to wait for entrees is a little long (around 40 mins). But 0verall, the food and service are good. The environment is good too.
Very nice staff. Busy which is reasonable considering it was Valentines Day. Menu was great with the pairing. Oddly, the sushi course itself was a bit boring but the rest of the meal made up for it, and the fish was definitely fresh. Would go back for lighter fare
The service is way too slow. It should not take 40 minutes to prepare two udon lunch menus.
Fish didn't taste good. Spicy tuna was a discolored paste vs my preference of actually chopped tuna.It was silent except a few tables at first before they tuned music on. It was an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. My worst meal over two weeks in NYC.
once again, a great sushi business lunch. Great service too!
The salmon Mille feuille roll is amazing
It was as expected. Not sure why it said we were a no show. We went to the restaurant
Cool tiered dining room ascending to the sushi bar. Tables crammed together pretty tight...makes for an intimate dining experience. Sushi tasted great but kinda rough presentation. Great selection of imported (and expensive) Japanese beer. Meal for two with a couple brews cost $100+
Great value for the money
The lobster miso soup had no edible lobster and yet it cost $10. Spicy tuna roll was good. Service was mediocre.
Upon checking in, the hostess did not have our OpenTable reservation, but was able to seat us within a few minutes of our arrival. The server was nice, but possibly new. We asked if they had orange juice (figuring it was a full bar), but the server had to check for 5 minutes before reporting back that there was no juice available.
It took about 15-20 mins before we were able to place our order. We waited nearly 25 mins before the miso sea bass came out of the kitchen, burnt on the skin side and tasting soapy/sudsy. My wife finished her sea bass and we had to wait another 10-15 mins before the sushi arrived. The server’s explanation was the sushi chef was new. There were 3 sushi chefs, I watched as the 2 tables next to us finished all of their sushi, paid, and left, BEFORE I even got my sushi. A party of 4 above us received all of their sushi a good 10-15 mins before us, even though they ordered only a few minutes before we did. A large party behind us received their sushi appetizer BEFORE we received our sushi AND they only arrived 5-10 mins they got their appetizer! I kept looking at the sushi counter and there were times 2 chefs were standing around while only the 3rd was making sushi...I still don’t understand why it took so long to make a dozen pieces of nigiri?!
We had a fantastic experience at Nare Sushi, delicate, fresh fish, prepared elegantly and crisp service. We had two of the chef’s choice options and they were both delightful. One of our best meals in New York.
High quality food at reasonable prices.
Amazing sushi! Service was fantastic as well. I will definitely be going back.
We had a pre-fixe course. All the dishes came at the same time... we felt like we were too slow to eat...
I brought my team out for lunch and had a very bad experience. The service was horrendous. The waiter was either new or inexperienced. I order some appetizers and one of them came after the meal. All of our meal was delivery in pieces and not together. One person did not get his meal until everyone was finish. I had to ask 2 times why the meal hadn’t arrived. The waiter never apology and I decided to tell my dining experience to the manager and he was terrible. He was giving me excusing that they had to do deliveries and lunch time is very busy. I had dine at this place many times and never had such bad experiences. Instead of being apologetic, he has the nerve to say you want some off the bill. I had to tell him at least an apology would be nice. He needs some training in customer service. I would not come back to dine here for sure if this how you treat a good customer.
had another business lunch at Nare and it was as good as always. The staff is wonderful. 5 stars!
Great place to eat for lunch
