My husband and I went to dinner for our anniversary here. We loved it, reading the history and taking in the decor, the food was upscale Americana and was delicious. Service was exceptional especially considering how packed it was.
Visiting DC and was told to try this restaurant. It was ok, nothing special.
Lovely restaurant and great atmosphere
Great service today!!
Lovely server but very loud. Food takes a while - the couple next to us had to order their entrees to go because they were going to a show and we’re going to be late.
It was so loud in there that it was hard to enjoy the meal. And the A/C was on high. Very cold. But the food was really good. It was neat to eat at the oldest restaurant in DC.
A local favorite, always busy... reservations are a good idea. A favorite stop for us when we’re in town.
Our server might have been new. He clearly couldn’t handle a Friday lunch. Meal took nearly two hours. He took our order, then lost it and had to come back to take it again. Took forever to bring the check and then disappeared for 20 minutes with my credit card. Very unusual because OEG is usually great.
Excellent meal and attentive service.
Enjoyable but very busy
We were in DC for 5 days. Ate dinner here the first night and loved it. Really happening place, lively and jumping! Had reservations and had to wait just about 10 minutes. Lots of great choices. The Jonah crab claws were fabulous but really needed to be cracked more in the kitchen. Not only did the waitress forget the metal crackers used to crack the shells, but also a pick. The shell on those are really hard to crack. I also had a shrimp po boy. We went back on our last day for lunch and ate at the bar. Had a trio of hummus, absolutely delicious. Such a friendly staff too!
Service was very slow; it took an hour from when we were seated to get our dinner. Food quality had declined since the last time I ate there...not sure I will return.
As usual, Old Ebbitt Grill never disappoints. Great service even though it is always busy, the entire operation is run smoothly. The food was great too and we got lucky and got a booth, which made the experience quite enjoyable.
Great as always. The staff is professional...beyond what most people are used to...and the food was superb.
One of our favorites. Great food, great service.
We had reservations and got our table. From there it went down hill in a hurry. Our waiter did not think we were worth any effort. I only wanted water to drink and only got one glass even though I finished it right away. No effort was made to refill it. Once our dinner arrived, our waiter never came back to see if everything was OK. I will not go back.
Busy and good. The restaurant was super busy, as always, service was perfect!
I always try to go to Old Ebbitt Grill when in Washington. The food is great, service excellent and you get a real dose of history.
Always a good experience!
Compared to previous experiences tonight was a disappointment. The service was extremely slow and the food mediocre. The buffalo chicken sandwich tasted raw and looked pink.
As always, Old Ebbitt is a sure bet fire great food and great service! Love the half price oyster happy hour
Always a pleasure to eat at the Old Ebbitt Grill. Their eggs Chesapeake is second to none.
Had to wait nearly 30 minutes despite having a reservation, but once sat, everything was great
Amazing service!! Loved it there. I will definitely be going back!
Whenever my parents come to visit, I always want to take them somewhere 'swanky' - as my dad would say - that really feels like D.C. This place had been on my radar for a while, and I knew it tended to fill up quickly with reservations, so I decided I'd take my parents and boyfriend here for a Saturday dinner. The entire place was buzzing with people and totally packed with eaters dining in everything from their most elaborate formal outfits to a casual t-shirt and jeans, which made us feel comfortable given the fancier, yet cozy, atmosphere. Our waitress was extremely prompt and helpful, and was very knowledgeable about their extensive menu. All of the food was amazing (although I was a bit surprised by how many more fries there seemed to be than steak with my steak frites) and the desserts were phenomenal (I highly recommend the blueberry cobbler!!). I'd definitely go here again for a more high-end meal, and would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who'd like to dine in a historic, swanky, very D.C.-esque place.
We took my father here for his birthday on a Saturday night. The place was Packed, and we had to sit in the part that stretches out into the lobby of the building, which actually was nice because it was much quieter. While we at first were disappointed in the time spent waiting for raw oysters to arrive, our server ended up comping a bottle of wine to make up for the wait; we were quite impressed with this.
Good taste service
Very enjoyable meal and provided with outstanding service.
Great place for my birthday dinner :)! We'll be back just to have more of the foods.
I’ve been here at least 100 times. Great as usual. Just don’t show up worth out a reservation, it’s always booked! Great food!
As always the weekend bruch was great.
I would eat the brunch cornbeef hash daily. Brunch was great.
Crab cakes were solid! Corned beef hash was a bit lacking.
Never been and thought it would be interesting to try as Saturday brunch. Food was ok; nothing extraordinary but our eggs Benedicte was good nonetheless. One of our entrees was not available and they let us know right away. Disappointing but we ordered something else. Our host was very very nice. The ambiance was nice ; dark wood interior. Cozy but nice. Nothing spectacular but now I can say I’ve been here.
Incredible restaurant. We had a minor issue with the crab and they insisted on taking it off bill when I said it wasn’t necessary. Super fast service. The desserts are amazing. My favorite DC restaurant!
Wonderful evening - the highlight of our stay in Washington
I have dined at Old Ebbitt Grill twice during the summer of 2018, and have eaten here on numerous occasions over the last 15 years. On both recent occasions the food and service were very good to excellent, and both luncheons were good value considering this very popular restaurant is in downtown Washington, DC, opposite the US Treasury building. For this latest meal, service was prompt and attentive but not obtrusive. The waiter was well-informed about the daily specials, including the seasonal special dessert, peach cobbler. I had the double crab cake lunch, my favorite, which was very good, as it always is. The other guest had scallops, which they thought were excellent in preparation and presentation. Both of us had the peach cobbler special for dessert, and it was very yummy.
We had a reservation for two at 1 PM and did not have to wait long for a table, despite the restaurant being exceptionally busy on a Friday.
The restaurant can be very noisy at lunch, but it is a small quibble.
I would highly recommend this restaurant. I did not receive any compensation or gratuity for this review.
Camarones medianos , no tan buenos como pueden ser
First class experience and our extremely knowledgeable server made the experience al the mire wonderful. I was here on business and now I can’t wait to bring my husband here as well.
I was first introduced to the Old Ebbit for drinks by a friend a few years back. Loved the ambiance and history. I now go back for dinner and enjoy the lively scene, and service. The food was delicious as we had the swordfish and fried shrimp. All prepared very well. And how many places can you have dinner then stroll around the corner to the Whitehouse at night.
