Had private dining here down in basement (9 of us) which was great. Also right next to well stocked and served bar. Able to have good conversation and room to move around during meal if wanted. Food was very good. My rib was over cooked but tasted great. If there was a 4.5 then that would be more accurate Breakfast definitely a 5. Food was superb as was the breakfast buffet. Service was excellent. Rooms were beautiful and clean.

The room we were given was cold with no heating whatsoever. We had to wear our coats until the heaters that were brought warmed it up eventually. The food was not at all good for myself and the person sitting next to me. I think they were overstretched and could not cope. We will not be returning.

131 has beautiful decor and a reputation of luxury. Shame the service does not represent such luxury or indeed simple good service. Poor attention, had to ask for the basics e.g napkins, to pour our champagne, cutlery, the bill etc.... receptionist cold and panicked! Just unorganised was the general feel. Receptionist on the way out was accomodating. Food good overall as anticipated it should be!

Appallingly bad service. Food only just ok. Staff haven’t got a clue what they are doing. Do not eat here!

Frantically busy due,I suspect in part, to Race Week in Cheltenham. However, this did not detract from superior service and helpfulness of the staff. Food divine and suggested wine by the waiter was excellent. If you can, ask for the table for four in The Library. Sumptuous. Thank you

This was a strange experience. A great building, an attentive and excellent maitre d, an interesting menu and wine list, all boded well. The food was excellent, and just about deserving of the price point, and 5* for that aspect. But the tables are tiny, with barely room for plate, cutlery and a glass; and they are so closely positioned that if the adjacent diners happen to be obnoxious and vociferous in complaining about their experience to each other, as were those next to us, it was very difficult to ignore and impinged on the evening; any sense of privacy is impossible. The decor was odd; was that really a photograph poster saying, “Everly Brother’s” ? and the blue neon “Be sure your sin will find you out” cross was weird. The real problem, though, is that the restaurant is colocated with a night club on the lower floor of the building, and it’s a partnership that’s in conflict. As the evening developed there was a sense that more and more of the staff and resources were deployed to that operation. When we ordered the - really excellent - cheeseboard, we were by this time being served by someone who really did not know what port was, let alone whether they had any, but instead kept insisting we consider the dessert wine list (which was great, but not what we needed.) On insisting he check with the maitre d, he then returned with a small but excellent list of ports. Having been very courteously relieved of our coats on arrival, on leaving it was very disappointing to be left to our own devices to find them, and to realise they had been put on stands by the nightclub entrance, unsupervised but now covered by dozens of others from the club-goers. Overall, the food and location were excellent, but this was meant to be special, and at £180 for two inc wine it felt a disappointment due to the ambience and the overpowering presence of the nightclub. Shame.
