Real Italian by a master at decent prices.
We had a wonderful meal. My two friends snd I shared an appetizer and salad and then each had a main course. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
The service has improved 100%! Thank you.
Inventive food. We shared a camberi sandwich (fried shrimp), and it was excellent.
Always good in the neighborhood. Limited menu but evething is great-tasting, often inventive but strictly Italian, thanks to super chef Roberto Donna, a long-time Star in DC foodie-dim.
Terrible service throughout the meal
Food is way above average and quite expensive but not worth it considering absolutely horrible service
Pizza worthy of Italy. My wife and I split a wood-fired, mozzarella and basil pizza that was the equal of the offerings we enjoyed on a trip through Italy. We also split a large salad of heirloom tomatoes, rucola, and watermelon topped with basil pesto. It too was delicious. The ambience and service were good. It was a lovely place to enjoy a simple summer evening meal.
Be sure to ry the pasta with black truffles and pancetta - superb!
Al Dente is almost a secret find. It has some of the finest cooking in Washington, at a moderate price, in a casual setting. Roberto Donna oversees every plate. Try the specials. They tend to be Galileo cooking, at a steal price. New Italian bistros on the scene? Al Dente still outdoes them all.
Great food. One of our favorite places to eat.
Al Dente's monthly wine dinners are excellent and a bargain considering the quality of the wine and food.
Chef Donna might just be the absolute best Italian chef in the entire DMV. We go for the outstanding range of Italian dishes and the great wine list. It's hard to go wrong with anything prepared by Chef Donna.
Another five star experience. The server (Claire?) was excellent, one of the two best we’ve had dining at Al Dente two or so times a month in recent years. If the restaurant were closer to us, we’d visit even more often rather than primarily on weekends.
Al Dente is a neighborhood gem. Our table had a variety of food including their wood oven pizza. All the food was excellent and reflective of it's James Beard award winning chef Roberto Donna. If you're looking for a low key superb Italian meal then I wouldn't hesitate to visit Al Dente. Our only small gripe is that we weren't offered a bread basket with our meal. I do think that Italian tables should have an interesting bread basket.
Authentic Italian food.
We tried the "Family Dinner" for the first time. Three solid apps, 3 fantastic pastas, 3 very good entrees, and 3 great desserts. Usually there are just three of us (2 adults and a 5-year-old) and we sit by the pizza oven and enjoy the limited 'happy hour' menu, so it was nice to try some of the pastas and entrees that are not on that menu. This was a Father's Day dinner for my dad, and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
Food was hit and miss. Salads and pizza were good but zucchini blossoms and octopus left a lot to be desired. Biggest problem was the slow, indifferent service. Disappeared for minutes on end, couldn’t get a second glass of wine. And there didn’t seem to be a manager around anywhere if we wanted to register our displeasure. It wasn’t cheap either. If they want to charge $28 for pasta they need to deliver on the experience.
Food was not good. Pasta was soft, lentil soup was over cooked and meatballs lacked firmness. Waitress was not on her game. And the place is way overpriced.
Al Dente, a reliable neighborhood spot, has a revised menu which is a welcome change. What is not welcome are the higher prices for the pastas, most now approaching $30, which are ridiculous.
Took way too long to be offered a drink
after we were seated. Appetizers, entrees and desserts were also very slow to arrive. Too bad
because the food was terrific!
We had a late dinner on Sunday. Service was excellent. We changed our wine based on a recommendation from the mgr. Cost us less and it was an excellent bottle. Pasta is always great here. What might surprise some people is the high caliber of the desserts. The apricot tart was heavenly
Adas provided outstanding service. Best we’ve had at Al Dente. Ever.
The food was delicious! Recommend the Zucchini blossoms and the Romaine salad. Both were exceptional!
We love Aldente for its food and convenient location. Waiting staff need training. This is the second time we have a negative experience due to poor service. For instance, not waiting until everybody is done eating to start pressing for desert. Taking too long just to bring the wine menu, even when the restaurant is almost empty.
Poor service in every way. They are not receptive to vegetarian modifications. The messed up our 10-year old's meal and he ended up getting his meal after the adults were done. No apologies of any kind were made. The food is generally very good, but you have to put up with third rate service.
Great pasta and pizza and don’t skip the desserts.
Al Dente did not have the special Mother's Day full brunch available when we showed up. They had changed the menu options from what was displayed online. So we walked across the court yard to another restaurant that had a great brunch.
We ate at the chef's table and had a special 5 course menu for our business meeting. Client was a foodie. Everyone loved it. The courses were appropriately proportioned, sufficiently Northern Italian, tasty, elegant.
although the food is quite authentic Italian and tasty, the migraine-inducing noise level and the"you could read a whole book" before you got your food---we each ordered one pizza, that was all and we waited 45 minutes for it to arrive makes it a restaurant to avoid which is unfortunate. maybe if they hired more cooks and serving staff one could get their food in a reasonable time frame--and it wasnt even crowded when we got there! and added som$e noise absorbing material!
A great place. Great food, service, family friendly
Incredibly expensive for portion size. $70 before tip for Very small portions of Pasta Bolognese, pasta do farro and Tomatoes, four dates wrapped in prosciutto with goat cheese. Coke and bottled sparkling water... very good but OVERPRICED!!!!
Ootdtanfing Chef Roberto Donna creates the most amazing dishes. He works the line so he is out front and he welcomes patrons to stop by and say hello. I highly recommend this establishment!
I would say the best pizza in DC. The quality of the food is first rate.
Al Dente left nothing to be desired!! The service was courteous and prompt, but not overbearing. Our waitress gave one member of our party of three excellent descriptions as she was undecided on her entrée. I had as a starter and excellent Lentil soup and my entrée was homemade pasta in a light, brown meat sauce. Other member of the party had the chicken which was prepared to her liking and a meal unto itself. Third party had the octopus appetizer as an entrée. We shared an excellent bottle of Montepulciano wine and the bread served prior to the meal compliments the Italian cuisine. It is hard-crust and served with olive oil and a sun dried tomato paste for dipping. A great meal at a great place that will not cost you a fortune!
Great food-never disappoints! Excellent cuisine, service, and wine/s.
Wanted to have a good chat with an old friend and it was the perfect spot for that.
Great value at one of DC’s most underrated restaurants! Chef Roberto still has it going on. Delicious food, terrific wine values and attentive service at really reasonable prices. We always enjoy it!
Great pasta and even better service. A bit loud. But, nice place with neighborhood feel
Pasta and Pizza were just the right fit for a early spring Friday evening. We were seated just across from the wood-burning fire and it was a very cozy evening. Food was robust and tasteful. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others for a enjoyable evening out.
