Not your typical Mexican spot -- It's run by Mexico City natives working to represent the city's bar scene. A well-curated bar and menu.

Barra was absolutely wonderful. Literally the best food I've had in Boston, and some of the best Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico. Beautifully curated cocktail, mezcal and sotol list, a thoughtful and inventive menu. Absolutely do not miss the gringas tacos or the tetelas -- everything was wonderful, but those two knocked me dead. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable, they gave wonderful recommendations, and brought all the ambiance of the very chic indoor space into the patio dining experience. Can't wait to go back again, and again, and again. (Seriously, I hope they liked us, because we're definitely going to be frequent visitors.)

Tiny portions of very subpar food for ridiculous prices. Shrimp tacos came in an order of 2 and each had ONE piece of shrimp with the tail still on in a tiny tortilla smeared with mashed potatoes, and no side, for $16. Everything was very under salted. Drinks were tasty but also very small and expensive. Chips (which tasted completely unsalted) and Guac was big enough to maybe be considered a side to an entree, not its own appetizer, and was $11!! We left very hungry and broke (dinner for 4, sharing chips and slasa&guac, cactus salad, each got 1 entree and 1 drink, shared 1 dessert) was $240. With so many great, authentic, Mexican spots around somerville/cambridge its hard to say I would recommend this place or justify the outrageous prices.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry our concept was not a match for your needs. We use all natural and high quality ingredients (every tortilla, salsa & cocktail juice/fruit is crafted at the moment), hence costs do tend to exceed those of other less quality/detail-oriented establishments. As authentic as it gets, we do assure you. Thanks for your support and initial interest.

Amazing experience! Great food and very friendly staff/ service. One of few places that specializes in Mexican food (not Tex-Mex), you’ll find cactus and grasshopper on the menu. Superb drinks too!
