Sauteed Forest Mushrooms, Parmesan Cream Sauce, Truffle Essence
Food was very good and our server Aylin made every effort to make our dining experience excellent.
Filet mignon was cookes to perfection as usual.
It was perfect for the occasion, a visit with friends I had not seen in several years. The waiter let us talk for quite a while before ordering and to stay on long after the eating had ended.
Bistro Cacao food and service is consistently excellent!
Amazing food service and ambiance
Very good food at reasonable prices. The strawberry salad was amazing as was the tuna small plate. Our party also liked the duck and the strawberry rhubarb dessert.
Very romantic and delicious fine French cuisine! This is a hidden gem in DC!!
Bistro Cacao always offers fine food in a quieter atmosphere. One can linger at this restaurant, enjoying the company of one's companions, having enjoyed well prepared French classics, as well as more contemporary and innovative offerings. Food is also very well plated, which enhances one's overall experience. A good choice for intimate groups and dates.
Amazing. The service and food were incredible.
Every aspect of our first experience with Bistro Cacao was splendid. We will be returning for many more special occasions.
A delicious and enjoyable meal as always!
Food and drinks were delicious! Ambience is also very relaxing. Definitely recommend.
Absolutely lovely. It was our first time at this restaurant. The decor is very cool: Lot’s of romantic red in the upstairs dining room,Interesting chandeliers. great prints and art all over the place ( felt like I was in, Montmartre, Paris). I had the lamb chops. A bold choice for me as being European, I have rarely find American chefs who can cook lamb without ruining it.
Excellent food, drinks, and service. A very cozy and intimate atmosphere. A must try.
We are on vacation and this is my first time to DC. If you want a French experience from ambiance to food to music, go to Bistro Cacao. We had 3 small course- salads, then mussels and escargot, then French onion soup. Every plate was beautifully presented and the flavors were perfect. Karen, the host and perhaps owner was welcoming and met our every need. Go! You will love it!
Went for Restaurant Week. Food was outstanding. Service was a bit lacking. Crême brulée was disappointing.
Restaurant week menu was great - several great choices for each item. Loved the snails w/ mushroom caps and the Fr onion soup starters. We both loved our perfectly cooked duck breast entrees with the sunchoke puree and pickled mushrooms, which provided a nice bite contrast with the duck. And the creme brulee was delightfully light. Downer: the mille feuille. There were no 'mille' in the mille feuille. The three layers were each solid and hard - more like hard graham crackers, instead of flaky layers of puff pastry.
Ambience is wonderful - that upstairs with the light drapery divided spaces for two, so romantic, private, cozy, quiet.
Delightful and delicious! Parisian vibe, tasty French favorites and nicely priced wines to pair. Looks just like the photos online.
The salmon salad was great. Salmon flavorful and moist - not dried out as in other places. Same attentive service. Gazpacho with watermelon refreshing!
Not worth the price. Went on restaurant week, selection and portion sizes were very small, not really classically French, and actual food was hit or miss. Steak and fries and salad were very good, but creme brule was subpar (I’ve made better at home) and profiteroles were dense and not very flavorful. They charged us 6.50 for two glasses of water…waiter was very nice and attentive. Overall left hungry, not terribly impressed, and with a much lighter wallet.
It was good to come back to Bistro Cacao after a long absence. They have taken over the property next door, giving them a larger bar area--my first martini at a bar in 15 months! Their upstairs booths have new and airy red curtains (replacing the old musty ones), and the elegant.Pariesienne atmosphere has been preserved. The food is very good--excellent mussels in a creamy lemon broth. My mushroom ravioli were delicious and my husband's steak frites was top-notch--very crispy potatoes.
Great outdoor patio, and awesome restaurant week deals!
I took a friend who lives on Capitol Hill to Bistro Cacao for her Birthday month lunch treat.
We were able to order off of the Restaurant Week menu - and independently, both chose the Watermelon Gazpacho, Salmon Salad and Creme Brulee. All were excellent, though did not have complex flavors. The service was warm and personable, but there were slight bumps: the requested second rolls (also excellent) never came and the table was not fully cleared before each subsequent course was served.
We chose to eat inside on this 90+ degree day and felt safe in the small but quaint dining room.
My friend said she will return. As I live across town, I cannot guarantee that I will, but would be happy to do so.
Excellent cuisine and service... conducive to conversation. Excellent wine selection.
Excellent food. Nice area. Plenty of outdoor tables.
Would definitely recommend!
Lovely French restaurant with excellent food and service.
Outstanding & memorable
Great brunch on the fabulous patio,
It was our anniversary and we did the pre fixe that was so wonderful!
Loved our romantic dinner at Bistro Cacoa! My rack of lamb was so delicious and the cauliflower and squash were the best I have ever had. My partner loved his steak too. Desert was served with a flourish. Everything was designed for Romance. It’s definitely place for special occasions!
Overall experience was not satisfactory. Steak frites was cooked medium-well rather than medium rare. Do not get the ravioli unless you want an excessive amount of truffle oil.
It was a pleasant place for a leisurely dinner. The waiter did tend to disappear at times, however.
Great service, delicious food, lovely patio seating.
we went for Sunday brunch. Delicious quiche and crepes. Portions were a little small but very good. The staff was quite attentive.
The summer menu items, watermelon gazpacho and a rhubarb strawberry mousse, were outstanding. Couldn’t have asked for anything nicer. The escargot in mushroom caps was good and rack of lamb perfectly cooked.
Dennis our server was amazing and the food was fantastic! Such a great experience for my mother‘s 75th birthday. We will definitely be back!
We had three different waiters. They rarely came out to see if we needed anything. The food was very good.
Overall, we had a good meal, and felt very safe given the careful COVID precautions, including masking and space between the outdoor tables. Everyone enjoyed their food, including fish, steak frites, and some delicious desserts. The waiter was very nice, but did make a few minor mistakes toward the end of the night. They comped us for one of the mistakes, which we appreciated.
Service wasn’t the greatest but they are kind and genuine. The French onion soup wasn’t hot or tasty - however it was heavy or salty. The lobster omelette was dry and terrible. You should never leave a restaurant hungry or disappointed. Unfortunately it wasn’t worth the wait to make up for it. I really had high hopes and was excited to brunch here - don’t know if I’ll be back.
First time eating here. The food was great and staff were excellent. If you're looking for nice, French ambiance, this is the place. Excellent for romantic dates.
