Buca di Beppo - DC
Dinner last Saturday with family and friends was wonderful! We over-ordered (everyone ended up with some leftovers!), but definitely enjoyed the food. The apple salad, eggplant parm, and chicken marsala were highlights!
We have been going to Buca for years for celebrations and this was a major disappointment. Service was awful and ruined the evening.
Food portions are huge!!
Buca is good for large group seatings with lots of kids. The family style serving portions are huge and the food is “pretty good Italian”. Our evening started out a little slow. We had a recent immigrant waiter, earnest and nice as could be, but a bit overwhelmed. But 2 managers quickly pitched in, helped our waiter get over the hump and, soon, all was well. We ended up being very well cared for, with food the whole extended family (16) enjoyed, especially the kids.
The waiter had no clue what he was doing
I used to love Buca di Beppo. This was a terrible experience, food was very expensive and substandard at best. Service was awful. Some tables are broken and replaced with folding tables - which wouldn’t be that bad if the food was good. Please, if you are reading this review it’s because you want to know what others think. Go anywhere else! There are lots of food choices in DC, I am so disappointed that I wasted so much money and time on such a horrible experience.
We were seated quickly, but our server was preoccupied with other tables. It took a while to get our drink order and despite giving him the entire order complete with appetizer, he forgot several items that other servers had to bring out. The food was great until dessert. I ordered the Celebration Cake for the table and the cake did not look like the cake advertised on the website. I called to make sure it was the cake with the Italian flag colors inside. Instead, I got a standard white cake that had to be unthawed. The restaurant ambiance is screaming for remodeling. The women's bathroom had a broken stall and the floor was sticky. The carpet in the dining area was sticky as well. The manager tried to make things better, but when I tried to pay and ask for a carryout, our server was reticent to bring a large enough container for the cake and it took him over ten minutes to return with my card once I paid. The rest of the staff was very friendly and I appreciated the "Happy Birthday" song. Our server was never rude, he wasn't attentive to our table and I don't know why. I watched him serve other tables and he was on point in his timing. Overall, the experience was good, but I will not go back to the restaurant unless they send out a renovation notice.
Servers were amazing and took great care of our group — THANK YOU for knowing what giving good service is!
This place use to be such a great spot. In the ten years we haven’t been it has gone down hill. We were sat in the kitchen where it was hotter than we cared for. We had our toddler with us and staff were cursing freely.
Food came out and the chicken was good but the pasta tasted like something I could make at home.
What a disappointing meal and experience.
I normally go to the one in Mesa, Az and since I was in D.C for Police week I thought it would be great to take my adult son there. He loved the food and we were able to share a meal. Thank you for great food and service.
We brought friends from out of town. For an Italian restaurant the pasta was over cooked and service was not that great, which makes it overpriced and they should have individual portion.
The service was the worst we ever had at a restaurant. She did not ask or refill any drinks. Did not visit our table once after the food was served. We love this place, and very disappointed with the service. When they brought our food out the runner had to ask if she was going to clean our appetizer plates to make room for our food.
The food was good, however we probably got the newest waiter who needed to learn more efficient ways to manage the table orders and requests.
Give him a trainer to assist.
It was very good. Not the restaurants fault, but the table across the room was very loud!
I usually have a great experience. This time my food was like warm. Need a larger desert selection.
Similar to other Buca di Beppos! Great food, great amount of food! The restaurant was a little slow so service was great!
Food was great as always however service was not good at all.
There were many groups on Saturday evening and it was very noisy, as well as service was slow, but then, we felt rushed out because it was so crowded that waitress wanted our booth. She was trying to clear the table and started taking everything away before we even finished. We asked her about it and she even said that they were very crowded and were told to clear off tables as soon as possible.
We have been to Buca many times, but will try to avoid on a Saturday evening in the future.
The dinner experience at Buca was very good this time. We had Anise as our waitress and she is very nice, attentive to our needs as diners and friendly. We ordered the Chicken and Sausage Rotini and it came out hot. It was tasty. There were many families there with their babies and they had to store the strollers away in a room near the hostess station. I really would suggest that the Buca restaurants invest in purchasing 2-in-1 Convertible Plastic High Chairs, that can be used as high chairs and also able to hold an infant car seat. This will be greatly appreciated by me and all of the thousands of families that come to your restaurants without having to squeeze an infant car seat into a booth.
Always a fun time with family & friends. Arrive early to beat the crowd.
Entrees sized for 2-3 were more like 1-2 size. Biggest disappointment was super sundae--skimped on the ice cream, about haf of it was whipped cream and they forgot the cherry.
Great place to get authentic italian food!
Overall appearance was dated. The waiter told us that the tap water was filtered but each of our water glasses had water that tasted of both salt and chemicals. We asked for replacements but 3 of the five were also bad.
On a positive not, the calamari and Brussel sprout appetizers as well as the seafood pasta were good, but no one liked the lasagna.
Service was slow since our waiter seemed to be responsible for too many tables.
The Portion sizes are nice and hearty for the price.
I’d go again. This is my 2nd visit to this location. I’ve also been to Buca in AZ.
Old timey family style Italian restaurant. Simple delicious food, huge portions. All-Italian decor. Inexpensive. Really fun place!
Buca is always a fun place to dine and all seven of us had a great time. The egg plant parm was really good.
Hands down the best restaurant I've ever eaten - this was the BEST way to start our weekend. Recommended by a friend from the DC area and will visit every time we are in the area.
This meal was great! Good for a quick bite with friends, and the house wine is excellent.
You know what you are going to get when you go to Buca di Beppo. You can enjoy a nice conversation with family and friends and not think twice about the food. The family-style portions are generous enough that you are almost guaranteed to have leftovers to bring home.
Amazing! Huge servings. Be prepared to share.
We were a large group and the waitress and waiter that partnered on our table were extremely attentive, patient, quick and responsive. With family in from out of town their service made for a great meal and family time.
Dakota, our server was terrible and ruined our experience. He forgot our waters, our oil for our bread (and left us sitting there with no plates or anything to eat it) and made a rude comment when we asked for a plate. He forgot about our salad which we ordered as soon as we sat down, and we didn’t receive said salad until 40 minutes into our dining experience (and just before our main course). He was MIA for long periods of time, and it was so noticeable that one of the other servers started asking us if we needed anything. I am grateful this wasn’t my first experience with Buca di Beppo, (and know their service is normally top notch) or else I probably wouldn’t give them another chance. Hoping this is just a one-off disappointing incident and not the norm for the DC location. We were very unhappy.
I was surprised how bad the service was. The server, while very friendly never visited our table, no apology for letting us wait un-greeted for at least 20 minutes. They were out of the wine and all draft beer that night. Our meatballs, and appetizer never arrived and we had to request them. Even after the request, the meatball never arrived, but stayed on the check. Big disappointment for a restaurant I was positive would be a fun and easy night.
A shell of its former self. Service was good though.
We usually go to Buca di Beppo for the large portion sizes and the value that we get for our money. I was celebrating my birthday. This was the first time going their with our baby and I was so very disappointed, that it will make me think twice about dining there again. The hostess wanted to squeeze us into a semi- circular booth with a baby car seat. Then when we requested to move we were seated at a small table for two with our baby in a car seat. This left my husband to sit in the aisle across from the bar and we had to place our baby in a car against a wall. I can not believe that they did not have a proper seat in which to place our baby comfortable at our table. This is supposed to be a family inspired dining establishment.
All of these years coming and giving our business to Buca this was the worst I have ever had to experience. The management must make a change immediately to fix this problem. This caused us not to be able to comfortably enjoy our meal.
Everything was great, except the temp in the restaurant...so HOT in there!
Service was horrible from the start. It was suppose to be a birthday dinner and it was a bust. Started at 6:30 and got the food at 7:30.
Will never return again.
