Very good food at good prices. Very attentive service.
You can always count on Casolare for great food and service. In a lovely Italian farmhouse atmosophere, yet still up to date and on trend.
I am normally wary of choosing restaurants based on images of its food, much less photos on Instagram. Yet when Caolare began a "Jewish-Italian" brunch service earlier this year, the photos posted on its and its pastry chef's websites of its bagels and breakfast pastries baked in-house seemed irresistible.
The food that arrived on our plates was not quite as gorgeous as the Instagram photos, but still attractive to behold. (The same cannot be said of the rather bland Casolare dining room, whose main saving grace is its wall of windows overlooking Wisconsin Ave.) But the pastries were spectacular, the bagels as good as any I have have had in DC, and the bagel accompaniments first-rate. It was a delicious meal, albeit fairly expensive given the surroundings (we paid about as much for a comparable brunch in Manhattan).
Service is not good.
A nice menu, good food and wine and attentive, friendly service. Will definitely return.
Hidden gem. It's usually not crowded during the day, and the food is great. Complimentary valet parking is also a nice bonus! Shocking, the restaurant did not have a soup option at lunch. We expected that they would offer a typical Italian wedding soup or minestrone.
Excellent brunch at Casolare, highly recommend the pastrami hash and the delectable pastry selections. The soon to be world famous pizza bagels are the real star here though! Thank you team Casolare !
having lived in Italy for nearly a decade, and with an Italian chef, I guess there's an even higher degree of finding GREAT Italian restaurants here in the US. WELL - you have GREAT Italian food, and an Italian friend who joined me says the same! From appetizers (Mama Zecca's eggplant & panzanella salad) to a most-delicious spaghetti and meatballs, we can't wait to come back again - and this time to include dessert. Bravo & compliments to your chef! A presto!
We enjoy this restaurant immensely. Glad to have it in our neighborhood.
Small menu with several good and tasty choices. Friendly wait staff
We really enjoyed our first visit to Casolare. We went there for the brunch and would highly recommend it if you like traditional Jewish cuisine.
Had 2 martinis, they were ice cold. Food was good.
We had a delicious brunch at Casolare. The menu was terrific and the food superb.
I thought the service was great. All the staff was super attentive and the food was delicious.
Best bagels ever.
Best Italian in DC - closest to traditional and authentic Italian in a comfortable and casual setting. Lots of home made specialties and an attentive and knowledgeable staff
Worth a trip for a casual and simple meal
We have had several lunches and dinners at Casolare. In fact, we have introduced our neighbors to this restaurant as we think the food is very good and it's in our neighborhood. However, the cost of parking is just too high for a short stay for lunch or dinner only. We do live a few blocks from the restaurant, but we are seniors and cannot walk. Occasionally we can find a parking spot on Wisconsin, but most of the time that is impossible. We have even received a post card suggesting that this restaurant wants to serve the neighbors.
Surely something can be worked out to reduce the parking fee for those who have proof of residency in the two area codes closest to the restaurant, 20007 and 20016.
The food, ambience and service is meh. The prices are highway robbery. I would not recommend this restaurant
We brought a bottle of wine with us because corkage was reasonable; the staff could not have been more accommodating to this and every other request ( food allergies, more bread, taking delicious leftovers home, etc).
I was hesitant to try the restaurant because of reviews on noise and service, but I booked a 6pm table on a Sunday and although it was more crowded by the time we left ( 8:30ish) the noise level was still not a problem. Great bar tender, receptionist, valet ( free). I’ll be back!
The food was good and was very convenient. We had a lovely breakfast and had attentive service.
We live literally within yards of Casolare, so go there quite often. As always, our problem is the same. The food is excellent. The service is poor. Our condominium is full of people who have the same complaint. We were there on Friday night and I think the poor service has definitely affected their business. The dining room was about 10% full. Until they fix this problem, they won’t maintain longevity. Sad, because the chef is top notch.
The food is very good and the service when I went for dinner with my family was great. However, happy hour service was pretty bad. Bartender wouldn't make eye contact and mumbled, and when my boyfriend asked "I'm sorry?" because he couldn't hear him, the bartender basically yelled his name (which I don't remember) with attitude and said to ask him if we needed anything. Still no eye contact, and not very inviting in case we did in fact, need something. At a certain point he brought out the wrong food and we informed him of this to make sure we weren't eating someone else's food. He went to go check on it in the back and disappeared for about ten minutes, meanwhile we're sitting here with this food that we didn't know if we should eat or not. Then he brought us out the right thing but still charged us for the extra stuff that we didn't ask for. In conclusion, he never made eye contact, mumbled instead of spoke, and even mumbled things under his breath throughout the entire time we spent there, brought out the wrong food and then charged us for it. Pretty disappointing.
Long story short; food is good, service is inconsistent. It would be wise to make sure ALL employees are trained to have a good attitude and be pleasant while at work, instead of reluctant to do anything at all.
My friend and I went for Sunday brunch. We were immediately pleased with menu, decor and service. The manager came over and made us feel very welcomed and made some good food recommendations. After that initial welcome the service went downhill. There seemed to be multiple people tending to our table yet no one seemed to have complete ownership of our overall experience. We had to ask for our coffee to be refilled and my friend had to get up to ask someone to pay the check. We enjoyed our meal but there were some service steps that were missing. It almost felt like it was a new restaurant opening. I wanted to give this place an A+ but it wasn’t quite there.
The food was ok. A little overpriced for what you get. I will not think about going back..perhaps if I want to try the pasta.
The food was excellent, the ambiance was lovely and the service was outstanding. It was a very nice evening.
My daughter and I were staying at the Kimpton Glover Park Hotel so we ate here. The room was pleasantly decorated and the service was top notch. All the people who we interacted with were fantastic. The complimentary fresh bread and olive oil were tasty as was the Caesar salad and calamari appetizers were ordered. We weren’t so impressed with the entrees. My daughter had the penne ala vodka and I had the hand cut fettuccine primavera. Both dishes were cooked and presented well but were tragically under spiced. Unfortunately, no salt & pepper are set on any tables. Our waiter checked on us a few minutes into our meal and asked if we wanted some fresh cracked pepper or grated cheese. I eagerly asked for pepper but sadly he never came back with it. Interestingly, we ate breakfast here the next morning and had a similar experience with under spiced eggs and no salt or pepper on the tables. I’m not a salt or pepper addict but the lack of these condiments was annoying. The price of both dinner ($120 with tip for two) and breakfast ($40) were overpriced and not worth what we ate. Within walking distance of the hotel is a Starbucks and a WONDERFUL bbq restaurant called Rocklands BBQ. Much better choices over Casolare. I wish the food as Casolare was as great as the people who work there.
The desserts were wonderful. This would be a good place to come for afternoon tea, or after dinner desserts.
Slow service spoiled the event. Was told the kitexhen was closing at 10 yet they accepted a 9:45 reservation. Felt very rushed.
What a treat! Friendly, great service, and excellent Italian food. We went on Friday with friends and everyone loved it. Glover Park isn’t in one of the hot restaurant neighborhoods and you don’t expect such a nice atmosphere in a hotel restaurant, so it was a very nice surprise. The meatball appetizer was amazing and other appetizers were excellent too. Pasta was great — particularly the pasta with “Sunday Gravy.” The chicken Parma is very tasty and enough for 2-3 meals (it’s good leftover). Good wine list too. It’s a terrific spot and we will be back often.
Terrible service and super slow. Good was ok
Father’s Day brunch was excellent. Somewhat inattentive wait staff but very nice hosts. Highly recommend it.
Food was excellent. We liked the basket of goodies and the potato pancakes (which could use more than 2 to an order). The make-your-own-Mimosas were good, too, and they brought a bottle of San Pellagrino so the kids could make their own as well. They were very good about accomodating allergy issues. Service was juuust a little slow, but they never tried to hurry us out. Free valet parking was appreciated.
Had a family meal here and enjoyed the evening. Appetizers we're the standout, the meatballs and eggplant parmesan were outstanding.
Casolare is always a great place to eat. Fresh ingredients, well prepared food, simple and traditional Italian the way you get it in Italy . The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating -
Carrie was our waitress and she was spectacular! She was knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients as well as the preparation of our food. Her attitude was positive and radiant.
The food was amazing and would recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you go please end your meal with me cannolis because they are fantastic and light!
Insane for the eggplant “lasagna”. Nice lunch menu. Chicken BLT too breadt & large.
Great service & free valet worth validation which was much appreciated. Will definitely be back
Incredibly delicious brunch. Whitefish salad, sesame bagel and slow cooked scrambled eggs were perfectly prepared. As usual, so enjoyed our visit and had amazing service. Look forward to coming back and enjoying the new outdoor deck. See you soon!
Had dinner here on a recent Saturday night, graduation weekend at many colleges, so the restaurant was full and a little noisy. But even with the crowd, service was quick and very competent (very nice waiter who was knowledgeable about the food) and the food, Italian themed, was very very good. Shrimp pesto appetizer was flavorful and unusual, and the entrees we had--rabbit with tagliatelle, cavatelli with sausage, and macaroni were all delicious, each in its own way, unlike many Italian restaurants where everything often seems to have a very similar sauce. Definitely would go back.
The wonderful Chef Patrick Curran recently brought his talents to this neighborhood gem and his culinary gifts are on display. From the most delicious fresh mozzarella ever consumed (I dreamt about Saturday night) to brick oven pizza to perfectly prepared Bronzino, our meal was a home run. Apparently the brunch is not to be missed and with the outdoor area opening very soon this is going to be the Glover Park hot spot this summer. Check it out!
The food and service at Casolare are consistently top notch. The menu is varied enough for everyone, food delicious and service very accommodating to special dietary needs. Don't miss their outstanding desserts. They seem to have an excellent, creative pastry chef.
Don't miss a great restaurant in a somewhat easy to drive past location. Valet parking is free.
