The daily fish was very fresh and was cooked perfectly. The shank was good but enjoyed the endive even more. The mushroom croquettes were really good.
This was our first time at Cranes. We were so impressed! My companion and I both got the Omakase menu. It was beautifully prepared and presented exquisitely presented. Our server Gabrielle was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and the cuisine. The chef visited our table and allowed for our meatless diet! Every detail down to the beautiful tea cookies presented in the wooden box were superb!
Great as usual - their new outdoor patio is really cute too actually. Lots of fire features so should be good through the chillier nights.
The food was beautifully presented, drinks were good, and the server was very friendly and explained each dish. Omakase is the way to go, and it was actually filling without feeling too stuffed. Interior looks lovely but unfortunately with Covid that will have to wait to enjoy. They have an outdoor space, which is on the side street, but they did a great job creating ambience with greenery, lights, fire pits, etc., and spaced the tables apart. Look forward to going back.
Best restaurant in DC. Incredible textures and flavors. High recommend for anyone for anything from a casual lunch to a special occasion.
Omakase menu was fantastic! Would definitely recommend for any sort of celebration. Not only was the food great but the restaurants environment was felt safe during COVID.
Great service and food!! Loved it !!!
This place is amazing. Took my husband there for his birthday on a Monday night so was not crowded at all, we got a seat by the window which was great for people watching and did the omakase menu. I wish I could remember our waitress's name, she was wonderful, as was the bartender whose name I also forget, probably because they kept brining us really delicious drinks. Food and beverage pairings were amazing, from hamachi to beef tongue and mushroom that tasted like chicken in a way. Highly recommend this spot!
The food, service and the overall experience was phenomenal
Absolutely amazing. Got the weekend lunch bento box and a couple other items (including fish of the day)—my boyfriend and I were blown away by the presentation of dishes, amazing interplay between flavors, and just top notch assortment of foods. Drinks were delicious as well. Highly recommend for friends or couples—it’s an amazing experience and I was highly impressed (and I’ve eaten at Per Se and Eleven Madison).
Absolutely fantastic meal and amazing drinks. Will be back many times.
Amazing experience. Love the ambiance and the staff, from entrance to wait staff to chef, all went above and beyond. We went twice this weekend!
Thank you Rachel! Were so happy you enjoyed your time with us and thank you for coming twice! We look forward to welcoming you back. 😊
Definitely worth trying
A memorable, unusual dinner format -- the omikase, and the wive pairing was unusually nice
Awesome, great food and fantastic service
Food, service, ambiance, drinks were wonderful! Will definitely go back!
Thank you! We look forward to welcoming you back 😊
Excellent food from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Finest of fine dining. Art on a plate. Interesting, creative menu. I had 5 tapas and dessert. The varied tastes, textures, colors, and concepts were all 5*. I am a foody who dines out a fair amount, even in Covid world, when precautions are in place. Crane's followed all recommended practices, and I felt entirely comfortable there. The space is also lovely, high ceilings and windows, beautiful place settings. Service was spot-on and friendly/low key. Literally, Cran'es served the best meal I've had in recent memory, including Europe when we could still go.
Wow! Thank you for the fantastic review, were thrilled you had a wonderful evening with us. See you soon!
Absolutely delicious and unique food!
Thank you! 🙏
Great food and excellent service. Look forward to going back.
Thank you for joining us, we look forward to welcoming you back!
AMAZING LIVE CRANES
I loved it. This was a cherished event meal- wife's birthday. Upon presentation at the host table, we were given many Covid-19 options for our meal. Contactless menus, outdoor seating, etc. We did avail ourselves of the outdoor seating. Appropriately cautious spacing between the tables outside (10ft). Such distance created a nice sense of intimacy. Service was polished, informative, ever present without being intruding. No gaps in service from the kitchen either. Plates were presented at a steady relaxed pace all night long. The dishes were stellar. Loved the Pork Belly Yakatori! A highlight. My wife loved her dishes too. A delicate touch with her Tilefish. Blankets were offered as the night temps got cooler, but we declined. The cafe lights overhead were a nice touch. Maybe some candlelight for a more proximal flash of soft lighting would be my only quibble, but with table space being at a premium it is understandable why this was not done. Being street-side on a DC Saturday night might add a noisy background to the meal, but it didn't. Very hushed. Dessert was a solid version of Churros with dipping sauces. And coffee. I have my own personal rating system and from lowest to highest: Avoid, not worth your time; Acceptable to eat there if no other better options exist and if you really can't wait for one to arise; If in the neighborhood and hungry for or in the mood for- have a meal; Would drive into the city for a meal here; Would travel across great distances for meal there; Must eat there before one dies. I would gladly travel into DC for a meal here. And with their menu, repeated trips appear to be in the cards. A solid A-. Worthy of your patronage.
Thank you so much for joining us and for the wonderful feedback! We look forward to having you back again. -Cranes Team
Food was exceptional!! Such an amazing culinary experience! Nothing like it in DC!! It needs to be marketed better so that’s it jammed packed!! LOVED IT!!
Thank you for the kind review! We miss the vibrant scene when the restaurant is full of happy people. We look forward to the day we can all go back to normalcy. 😁
Phenomenal! Incredible meal: service, experience, top notch. Outdoor seating is well appointed, quiet and protected from traffic. Great care was taken at social distancing and sanitation options. We had the tasing menu with optional wine/sake pairing and every bite was perfection.
Thank you so much! 😁 We are absolutely elated you enjoyed your time with us. We hope you to see you back soon!
Excellent food, great value. The pulled pork sandwich is to die for.
Thank you! 🙏
Delicious food and amazing service
Top-notch food, with very fresh ingredients, boldly presented. Unfortunately, the outdoor dining was in several re-used parking spaces in the small street around the side of the restaurant, which provided a very noisy atmosphere including truck and car traffic right beside us.
However, that was minor compared to the excellent service, fine beverage pairings with the tasting (omakase) menu that we experienced.
Amazing as always! The Omakase always have me leaving full and happy. Great value for a tasting menu, truly the best deal in the city! Jake and Christian are fantastic, they surely know how to make a guest feel welcome and at home.
Wonderful, incredible service, food was splendid.
Thank you! 🙏 😊
Great service and food. Delicious and executed well. If you have a good appetite and even if you don't, you have to spend a lot to fill up. You come here for the experience.
Thank you for the great comment and feedback! 🙏☺️
We got the recommendation from a friend and decided to try Sunday Brunch. Everything is perfect - the environment, service, food quality. We always love Spanish and Japanese cuisine, so the food at Cranes not only satisfies the taste buds but also brings surprises by the Chef’s creativity of combining the ingredients and preparation methods of those two different cuisines.
Thank you for joining us and please send our 👍🏻 to your amazing friend who recommended us! We look forward to having you both back.
We have been to Cranes twice now, once before the pandemic and once since. The food and service were excellent on both occasions. The restaurant is understandably pretty empty right now, but Cranes is maintaining its outstanding standards. The Serrano ham and gulf shrimp were delicious
Were glad to have you back in our dining room! We miss our lively atmosphere and can't wait until its safe and everything is back to normal.
This restaurant is worth every calorie. Come ready to enjoy the tapas or the main dishes but make sure to save space for dessert.
Thank you for the comment! There is a separate stomach for dessert 😁 🍨
Best new restaurant in DC
Thank you! 🙏☺️
This was our first night out to a restaurant since the shutdown, and we absolutely made the best choice for our first anniversary! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable, we felt incredibly safe and taken care of, and the food is magical. We couldn’t have had a more delightful evening.
Thank you for joining us on your first night out! We hope to see you back again.
The noise level note is entirely due to the country itself dealing with a pandemic.
If there weren't a pandemic right now, this place would be f*g packed.
I have no interest in censoring an absolutely stunning review, beyond putting in a bunch of asterisks for the overly sensitive readers.
This place is a place to be experienced. If you have the opportunity to dine here, or you have the flexibility to dine here, f*g dine here.
I have a background in culinary and beverage service, and I was absolutely blow away by the beverage options and culinary expertise that was displayed. A few friends were looking for a bit of normalcy and indulgence amid the pandemic, and the omakase selection didn't just hit that mark. It left them stunned.
I'm not exaggerating that. Stunned.
The scallop-ponzu butter course left a few friends who didn't know what ponzu was so stunned at what was dancing across their pallets that they didn't have words.
That is just one note, of one course. It leaves out the body of the timely service by the manager monitoring the sake lounge. It leaves out the gradual escalation of the body and intensity of the dishes, and the increasing subtly along with their intensity. The wagyu beef course wasn't *hot*...but I didn't want it to be. The carnal chew of seared and seasoned wagyu was primaly satisfying. And it was followed up by a palette-cleansing sorbet cocktail and dessert course that left everyone at the table absolutely *moaning*.
I'm not going to gloss that up with fancy text. *Moaning*. Everyone I brought to the table moaned at their first bites into the dessert course. It wasn't just a satisfying end to the meal. It wasn't just a nice and sweet dish, in and of itself. It f*cking capped things off in a way that made the whole experience ooze indulgence.
I don't care if anyone reads that and goes 'Oh, that sounds like it's too much'.
F**k you. Go here. Eat here.
I've eaten around the world. You should eat here.
Crane's was a pleasant surprise. The interior is beautiful and interesting. The menu is excellent and the quality of the food very high.. Service was good.
My only complaint is that, even for small plates, some of the items were kind of small. For example, the tomato and burrata salad was very tasty, but could have used one spoonful more for $12. The bao buns were great; as was the maitake tempura.
Worth a visit!!
Awesome evening food was fabulous with great service
