We enjoyed the experience, but we did not realize that on Sunday mornings there would be a limited menu - a brunch menu only. That wasn't online. The pizzas we ordered were good, but we were really looking forward to the full menu.
The food was great. Especially the calimari
My wife and I are seniors so our appetites are not what they once we're. Food and service were excellent. Reasonably priced. Convenient to our hotel (The Harrington). Recommended.
Love Ella’s, food and service are outstanding. Music was a touch too loud and the light bulbs need changing as they had an annoying LED flicker. But we come in here pre-hockey games. 20-25 times a year
Ella's is my pizza place of choice when in the area for a game.
Best dining experience since arriving in DC! We sat at the bar and watched the MNF game, had a few drinks and the food was delish. (Pizza was great, the penne pasta exceeded expectations!) Best of all, the bar-back was cleaning the entire time we were there. Probably the cleanest bar I’ve ever seen and if you don’t care about that sort of thing, trust me, you should. We might even go back before leave town!
Our group had two different pizzas, grilled salmon salad dinner, eggplant parmesan small plate and strawberry orange salad. Every dish tasted great and salads were fresh. Grilled salmon was delicious and not overcooked. Desserts were great ( had tiramisu and biscotti) Blueberry mojito was fantastic and decent wine options. Service was also very good.
Quick meal before a concert at Cap One. We were pressed for time but service was great, extremely quick. It was actually so quick, as were the tables around us, that I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Ella’s for a leisurely meal. But for fast service, Food Food and an energetic vibe on the heart of Penn Quarter, Ella’s is a great choice. I had a salad and the chicken was freshly grilled and the veggies were delicious. Husband had a burger and loved it. It may be weird we didn’t order pizza but I was just too worried about time. In hindsight we had plenty of time. Next time we’ll definitely try the pizza.
Son’s birthday dinner before Nationals’ game - excellent food and prompt service. Highly recommended.
Stopped in from a day at the Convention Center and was pleasantly surprised! Would eat here again tomorrow if I lived closer.
The pizzas were good, as usual, and the service was very friendly. But the bar is still dreadful (the Sazerac was waaaay too sweet) and the wine list is a parody of itself. Wine bottle prices (reviewed quickly) looked to be either $42 or $49, no matter what you order!
Great service, great food, great price. Definitely recommend if you’re in DC. Will eat here again when I’m back In DC.
I had a blueberry mojito and it was delicious. The spaghetti and meatballs were yummy. Service was good too, very nice casual place.
My overall experience here at Ella’s was amazing. The food was great and everyone who was with me loved their food too. I will definitely be back.
Thought this would be the best place to eat based on reviews WRONG ! The pasta wasn’t even close to al dente and if that’s they’re way of making pasta they should ask how would we like the pasta cooked the pizza was not great at all
This was new to us. Food and service were great. A very pleasant evening with friends from out of town.
Salad was fine, but pizza (sausage) was very disappointing. The sausage was ground up sausage. It did not look appetizing.
Pizzas were great, kids loved it too. We tried the white sauce and red variety, both very good.
The food and ambiance was good. However, the drinks were extremely overpriced. Large ice cubes, small amount of alcohol, even with Sangrias being served in very small wine glasses rather than standard Sangria glasses. The server was not friendly - did not smile once and was working the bar at the same time. He was very slow in bringing us drinks or revisiting the table for additional things we needed. Honestly, I would be surprised if he made a lot of tips working as a bartender given his lack of personality.
Pizza was great. Very busy restaurant.
First time visitor. In town for a quick business trip. Had margherita pizza, side salad. Food was excellent, pizza reminded me of authentic pizza I've had in Italy. Service was good but not overly attentive. Two-top tables were too close together and they seemed to seat everyone together even though there was room throughout the restaurant. On my trips to WADC, this will be frequent stop.
Fun specialty pizzas and appetizers. Nice wood fired taste.
Our food wasn’t good and our service was slow. The meal wasn’t edible. We did our best.
Salads were good sized, fresh and tasty. Pizza crust was thin and crisp; not too much cheese; generous toppings; overall a very good pizza.
Nice, casual family-friendly option in DC not too far from sites. I had the tomato salad with shrimp and arugula and really enjoyed it. Kids seemed to like the pizza.
Ella’s Pizza made our visit to DC so much more pleasant since I was traveling with 2 young very picky eaters. Love the casual kid friendly ambiance! Food was great for me too! :)
Tasty pizza and calamari. A bit pricey for pizza.
Very good pizza at reasonable prices. Good for any occasion and family friendly casual dining. I would recommend it to anyone.
Nothing to write home about.
Wonderful service, great food. Would definitely return if we lived in the area!
The restaurant was almost empty, yet we’ve been waiting for about 15 minutes for drinks. One of us ordered tea, and requested it right away. It arrived towards the very end of our meal. We had a large group, for business lunch, and at some point, mentioned that we are in a hurry and need a check ASAP. It was painful to observe how our waiter was serving other tables while we felt trapped awaiting our bill. I guess automatic 20 percent tip partly explains this absolute disregard for customer service... would not comeback or recommend... and btw, pizza was average, at best.
Pizza awesome and drinks/wine selection also quite good!!
Fantastic food, service, and a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend Ella’s to anyone who is looking for a great place to eat.
We had dinner, the spaghetti was good, meat balls could have used some sausage in them but was good. The calzone was very good. We had pizza there earlier in the week and it was great, really recommend it. Prices we reasonable given this is DC.
Give them a try.
Oh yea, the bartenders are great, always asking if we needed anything.
Food was very good but felt it was overpriced. Service was good. One disappointment was that Happy Hour prices were not available in the restaurant area, but only if you sat at the bar.
Everyone else liked their dishes. My steak overcooked and under-seasoned. Pizzas looked good.
Okay for tourist crowd ... Neapolitan pizza does not hold a candle to Pupatella in nearby Arlington. So, if you know enough to know the best, know this is not it.
The pizza is fabulous. I had the one with goat cheese and eggplant. Yummy
Great service and very good pizza and salads. Enjoyed our meal, recommended.
Me and my partner ate here for his birthday. We enjoyed our pizzas, they were very fresh and the flavours were lovely. However when I booked the table there was an option to add any comment. So I did this and asked if maybe there could be something a little more special as it was his birthday. The whole meal I was waiting for something, but that something never came. So I was dissapointed and felt there was no point in having the comments section when it is not acknowledged. But regardless the food was good and the service could not be faulted.
