Flying Mango is a traditional Southern BBQ cuisine. Scott Cosner and his wife Alexis Cosner own this restaurant. Flying Mango boasts an energetic and colorful ambiance. Smell of fresh fruits and roasted nuts dominates the dining rooms. The restaurant specializes in welcoming and serving the guests with authentic Southern hospitality. It offers catering services also.

Flying Mango specializes in smoked barbecue cuisines. It obtains fresh produce from the Valley Junction Farmers Market. 24 hour smoked Brisket and juicy smoked baby back ribs are signature must try's! Flying Mango has a large variety of smoked proteins by the pound. The spiced apples are served bakes/grilled. Flying Mango corn bread with honey cinnamon butter is the specialty here.

We celebrated my birthday at the Flying Mango. The team and service were all great. Our meals were good and the menu is a lot of fun (great Louisianna options).

Overall it was good, good service and food except my pork was over cooked and dry.

This is the place for smoked meat in Des Moines. Portions are generous. Go early if you want to be able to talk to your table. Gets very loud when it is a fulk house which is most of the time. Need a chocolate selection on the desert menu. ;)

When we arrived for our confirmed reservation the restaurant was closed and locked.

Hey Matt! I am so sorry! I see your reservation for Saturday was at 8:45. We did close slightly early due the ISU/Iowa game being on and it was extremely slow. We cleared all reservations for the night before making a decision but this is a learning moment for us. We should have turned off the ability to make a reservation for the rest of the evening. Another business dinner where I introduced two out of state people to Flying Mango. As always, the food was spectacular and the server was outstanding. My clients were VERY impressed with the food, and we had a great time. Another amazing dinner at Flying Mango!

Great food. Took out of town guests there to show then a classic and unique local place - and they loved it. Interesting and different wine choices.

Three of us got in 1/2hr early which was cool. We sat for 8 minutes before a server came to us. I noticed a table to our right waiting too. They had their drinks but were waiting to order. We were just waiting for a server to just say...be right with you. We got our drinks and she took our order, then she came back and took that other tables order. They got their food first even though ours was taken first. I had the What Guy Had. The rub on the ribs is pretty spicy but the meat was tender. The collard greens tasted like vinegar and the catfish cake had a lot of orange sauce on it, was hard to taste the cake. My friend had the ribs and couldn't finish them due to the spiciness of them. He took them home anyway to put BBQ on them and de-bone them. His wife enjoyed her Shrimp and Grits. Me and my buddy had Long Island Ice Tea's. All you could taste was the citrus...no alcohol taste at all. When we left we saw our server mixing drinks...this could be why they sucked. Won't be back!
