Between the central locale afforded by its gracious home in the landmark Lord Elgin Hotel, a warm and yet contemporary ambience, a locally sourced menu and a casual-to-sophisticated stocked cellar, Forty-One has become one of Ottawa’s top new restaurants.

Named Forty-One in recognition of the year, 1941, that the Lord Elgin was built, the restaurant features a modern environment and classic menu that is a perfect match for connecting with new and familiar faces. Guests are able to relax in the inviting lounge with flat screen TVs and large windows overlooking Elgin Street or enjoy an intimate dinner or a group get together in the dining area. With a capacity of close to 150, the restaurant features booths and banquette seating to allow flexibility to accommodate guest needs whether they are popping in for lunch, a quick after-work cool-down, a pre-theatre warm-up or an evening night cap. Forty-One also includes a private dining room for up to 30 guests.

There is a a good variety of options on the menu. The ambience is pleasant and relaxing. We were both very happy with the quality of the food. Prices are reasonable.

A great place to eat. Price is reasonable. Food is good but the eggs benedict was a little skimpy on the bacon and Hollaindaise sauce! Service is wonderful ... everyone is very friendly and polite and helpful. Ambiance is modern and simple. Chairs are not the most comfortable at the tables. We were staying at the hotel, so the restaurant was convienient.

The place was just inundated with hoards or a herd of people crowded around the breakfast buffet selections. It was unsanitary and unsightly.

Food was very underwhelming. Lots of things had run out at buffet and not replenished. Only one server so things like milk never got brought to the table.

Food was average, however, the service was atrocious and we didn’t even receive our drinks until our meal was there. Never asked if everything was OK. Never asked if we needed anything else. No apologies or discounts on the bill despite the poor service and not receiving our drinks until almost all the way through the meal.

We had fish and chips and butternut squash pasta special - both were delicious and perfect portion size. Sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air
