The halfsmoke (sausage) was bland and the burger tasted like gristle. None of the food we had was brought out hot including several appetizers. You can do much better for your money elsewhere and nearby.

My wife and I visited D.C. for my birthday weekend. I found this spot while looking for black-owned brunch options. The service and vibe was exceptional and so was the food. We will definitely come back.

The food here is great. However, the service is horrible. The outdoor area is down the road and across the street, so you basically get ignored the entire time. My reservation was at 5:30 pm and we did not even get our first drink until 6:20 pm. We also were participating in happy hour that lasted until 7 pm and were not served until 6:45 pm. At this point we were told that all but one of the happy hour items were unavailable after already deciding upon it. We were very understanding, but we still ended up paying over $80 for everything that was almost two hours late. We talked to multiple other tables around us who were facing the same exact issue. We definitely will not be returning and advise others to do the same.

RSVP was for 3:15pm . My group arrived all on time and still was not seated until 3:46pm. It was 4:30pm before we received a carafe of water or ANY of our bottomless mimosas. It was 5pm before we got our food which came out AFTER our waitress came back to our table shocked to see us still not eating then says the kitchen missed our order. Once it finally came out it came in portions and somehow still cold.. Completely horrible first impression.

This place needs to seriously rethink their business setup. We had a reservation at 1, we didn't get seated until 1:30. We had to walk across the street to get to bubbles that air condition barely worked. The server took 20 mins to come to the table to just tell us the menu is online" look it up " is what he said to us. Then they bring hot mimosas to the table, HOT! Not chilled. When the food arises it's cold and barely edible. The server is no where to be found through all of this.
I ended up having to send all our food back. They charged us 60 dollars and 40 dollars in gratuity for service that was barely given. I would not recommend this place for brunch ever!

I loved the food but the service (check-in/hostess) was poor. Our server was busy but made up for the lack of communication, presence, and utensils. Love the energy and the vibe.

The worst customer service I have experienced in my 8 years of living in DC. The bottomless happy hour is a bottomless joke. Don’t waste your time or money if you want to recieve horrible service and lackluster drinks/food. Halfsmoke please do better!

Started out great and went downhill after we ordered our drinks. The server was polite, but didn’t check back on us often and we waited an extended period of time to get our drinks and food. The food came out and the chicken sandwich was burnt, fried pickles were greasy, and the fries looked like they came from the bottom of the bag. Just awful, and I’m shocked because the brunch was great the last time. I certainly hope they improve.

First time at half smoke was amazing, I was there for brunch.
Vibes and good people, that’s all a sis needs! loved the fact they had games for us to play. My server was awesome can’t remember her name but she was very accommodating and answered all my questions. The staff was great too, very helpful even when my server was assisting other tables.
Whoever the Dj was? 10/10 definitely would recommend.

Definitely will be returning in the near future!

good was fantastic!!!!!! the vibes were unmatched! our server was great once she got to our table! however, we waited at the door for a while to get seated and the person who sat us was very nonchalant and cold. he also sat us and never told our server so we sat for a very long time without being served. he was the only bad part about our time there. everything else was perfect

Super loud music and customers , incorrect food delivered, server did not pay attention to anything we said - put in food and drinks we didn’t request and then still proceeded to charge us for it. Dining room and music was too loud to have a simple conversation. Manager was good and helpful.

Walked in and stood waiting 10 minutes to be addressed by any employee. (They we’re not busy it was a monday) then was seated in an outdoor greenhouse which was hot and had multiple flies bothering everybody inside. Also half of the happy hour drink menu was not available. As a black person I try to solely patronize black businesses when possible and I’ve heard good things. Unfortunately my particular experience was not the best.

I booked a reservation for a friends 21st birthday. Got there 10 minutes early and didn’t receive out order of food until 2 hours later. The business had the servers walking down the block with our food to our outside seating in the hot heat. By far worst restaurant experience I’ve come across. I was even told they were out of champagne for the bottomless mimosas on their website along with other smaller items like onions. 0/10. Do not recommend.

Took over an hour to put our food order in and about 40 mins to get our drink orders. Food and drinks were great. Atmosphere was way too loud and we felt crammed into our 2 person table while servers were walking back and forth. 1st server was good but got switched before we put our food order in with an inexperienced server. Server did not leave a pen when giving us the check. Overall it was a pretty terrible experience.

Food came out fast, but drinks were served warm. Had to wait for ice as the waiter kept forgetting. Luckily, the busgirl was able to bring some. Ordered burger and was brought out a crab cake. Also to top all of we were double charged everything and someone else’s order was tagged on to the bill. This post is a reminder to check my bank to make sure everything was credited back.

The experience was horrible. We chose outside dining, without knowing that it was across the street. We got seated immediately but then waited 25 minutes just for ice and water. After we finally ordered drinks and food took almost 45 minutes and some people in the party never received food.

I loved it, all the prices were affordable and the staff were accommodating. It was a little hard to distinguish the waiters from the regular customers being as though they wore normal clothes but we knew exactly who our waiter was so no issues there. It was very chill

Went in and tried the bottomless happy hour. Got plenty to eat and drink within the hour we were there. The food portions were small, but they kept them coming pretty quickly. The drinks were full size. Or waitress also kept those coming. I would go back!

Reservations were at 5 did not get my food until 7:20. Ordered there happy hours special when I first arrived with my boyfriend. We put in our food order around 5:30 alongside a couple more drinks and apps. At 6:20 didn’t have our food and was told that the couple behind us was given the wrong ticket (which included our food) I had to then pay the couple behind me back for paying for our food. Still our food did not arrive for another 30 min. No discount or anything. And was told they didn’t have the Mac and cheese I ordered yet the Mac and cheese came out 20 min after I was told that. Not very organized and staff needs better communication between one another. Also drinks came out very slow. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry so I understand but it was too much.

The service was extremely slow. Anything that was asked for including water or even cups took about 10-15 minutes to arrive. We ordered hookah and each time (3 in total) it came out with used/overly burnt coals. Our food was cold when it arrived and a friend had to send hers back because they added something she specifically asked to be taken off for an allergy. She did not order anything else because of the ridiculously long wait time. Our food took about an hour to get to us. The ambiance was beautiful and I wish we had a better time. No server looked happy at all to be there.

I love Half Smoke for their happy hour, drinks, and ambiance normally. This was my first time coming for brunch...Ordered the W.A.P (which has old bay potatoes). Waitress told us after we received food that the kitchen ran out of Old Bay seasoning the day before. I would have ordered something else. Menu says that all brunch entrees come with a side of home fries, waitress told us that the menu was wrong, and they don't (false advertising). WAY TOO HOT! Asked waitress if the AC was on, or able to be turned on, she said no to both. You need AC on, especially in the summer! Every table was fanning themselves because it was too hot. Thank you to the guy that was walking around, and lowered the blinds for us, it helped a little. As someone that is in the hospitality industry, and customer service is the most important part, I was really disappointed. If you are out of something, communicate that when your guests are ordering so they are informed. Basic necessity is HVAC! Your guests should not be fanning themselves throughout their entire experience, especially when its summer and they are drinking a bottomless brunch. Waitress had a bit of an attitude, but being too hot out shined her!

Didn’t dine because we left after being seated outside in a greenhouse of sorts in extreme heat and humidity. We didn’t know we would be in such heat at an annex location down the street from the restaurant. The server really couldn’t care less and they didn’t accommodate by seating us inside.

Didn’t realize the outdoor seating wasn’t connected to the restaurant. It was very hot that day, they did have fans but since it was hot it was blowing hot air. Our server was doing the best she can, definitely kept bringing the mimosas. I would Def come again but will make sure I get indoor seating, it was such a vibe on the inside. Good music, great atmosphere, games , AND AC lol. I got the fried chicken and red velvet funnel cake. 3/5 the chicken was a Large chicken breast which was over over battered and overcooked the funnel cake was a little too sweet for me I was sad they didn’t have waffles or pancakes to substitute.
