Food and service wonderful. Portions perfectly sized and our server was a delight! We sat outside and felt isolated (in a good way) from the slightly grungy street scene on this block and our nearest diners.
Waitress was inexperienced, unprofessional and made for an awkward experience. Never have seen a waiter or waitress stack finished plates in front of a customer; never seen one reach across the face of a customer to hand something to another customer rather than walk around, and untimely take orders or deliver food…. Sad because food was excellent.
The food and service were excellent. Holly was absolutely fantastic, so energetic, funny and honest. The good was really great and we really enjoyed it. It was very warm upstairs though AC wasn’t working.
The OMG sandwich is great. Paying $3 for a mini bottle of coke is not fair.
We had a$300 dinner in the same week at another Italian Restaurant this week. I'll happily pay for cuisine and drinks that are worth it, but when you serve a mini-bottle of diet coke for that price it's taking advantage. It's an interesting bare bones light menu place. The food is good. but we won't be returning until you have a fountain and or a regular price for a diet coke. It's just unfair.
Outstanding sandwiches on delicious ciabatta bread. So tasty!
Wide variety on the menu, something for everyone. The bread is outstanding
Hidden gem. The arancini was absurd. The white mini pizza tasty. The special lobster ravioli with cioppini reduction was rich, rustic and flavorful. And the wine almost outshined the food but not quite.
There aren’t a lot of good restaurants in Santa Monica. This is one of the good ones!
It is a small place with seating upstairs and downstairs.
I was a little disappointed in the size of all areas.
I ordered the highly touted OMG sandwich just to see what all the
noise was about. It was good, but a bit expensive for what you get.
Most would compare here with Bay Cities very nearby. If given the
choice, I would go there only because it is much larger with a lot
of shopping for Italian goods.
As far as the food is concerned, they both make good Italian
sandwiches and meals.
The pizza is terrible. The external part is horrible. The waiter was very kind. The pecan pie was cold in the bottom, poorly warmed. Not going back.
Loved it food was amazing, ambiance was perfect. All around good meal and dining experience.
If you book outdoors, be aware that the table is practically in the street on a major thoroughfare with busses and lots of traffic. Though it's not usually very busy so you could probably easily move to an indoor table. Food was decent, though the menu on open table is not accurate anymore. Service was not bad, but also not great either.
Wow... everything was delicious and service was excellent... Love the way they have created outdoor seating
Outdoors was naturally louder than indoors dining would be. However, the spritzer was very expensive and felt overpriced. Sandwich was fabulous per usual.
Excellent service. Delicious food but portions are small for the price. The prawn pasta came with one small (2”) prawn cut in half for $38. But the sauces and recipes were amazing. Just give proper portions for the money spent.
Food was ok and kitchen made a lot of mistakes. It took almost an hour to get our appetizers then they said they were closing and could we hurry. The only saving grace was our AWESOME server who helped us make the best of it.
Great sandwiches and pasta
Thank you so much!
Excellent food and service. Sandwiches are huge so plan on sharing. Lamb ribs were divine, as were the morels and polenta. While back room can be noisy (often has large groups), front room is intimate and quiet.
Thank you for your review, Evelyn! I am so glad you enjoyed your meal :)
Everything was great! Will be back.
Thank you! We hope to see you soon
We made reservations and drove all the way from West Hollywood to have a nice meal at Heroic Italian but once we got there the host told us that they decided to close the kitchen 5 minutes ago because business was running slow completely ignoring our reservation in their computer. It was really uncomfortable and rude and only when they realized that we are really unhappy they said that we can order food.
Hello, I am so sorry for this experience. This never should have happened, and we sincerely apologize.
While I had heard of this place because of the OMG sandwich, we were there for dinner. Wife had the chicken parm with risotto which was highly disappointing. Slobbered with a sweet sauce to the point that the chicken cutlet was unrecognizable. The idea is to have some crunch with your gooey cheese and tasty sauce. Not this one. The risotto was also sub par - basically over cooked rice with just a metric ton of some kind of sauce that needed a lot of salt. I didn’t taste any cheese in it as described on the menu.
I had the pork - it wasn’t bad but was bland as were the accompanying veggies. Again, needed salt/seasoning.
It wasn’t horrible but I’m Italian and it sure didn’t seem like there was an Italian in the kitchen. We’ll go back and give the sandwiches a try as the bread was superb.
Service also was as bland as the food. At least be sociable. I hate to write a review like this but they need to step it up a bit if they want to continue.
Food was good, especially the BLT sandwich. 2 of us were sharing a meal. The parmesan chicken tasty to me but my partner thought it was a little tough. Presentation could have been better. Hot chicken came before the room temperature sandwich. Plates were plain, no garnish. I will order the BLT again for takeout only however. It was delicious. Ambience of restaurant needs improvement.
Delicious generous sandwiches w/amazing fresh bread for a very fair price of $16. The quality of the short rib meat was excellent--no fat and really enough for two people to share along w/a soup or salad. Husband's veal chop was not as large a serving for the price of $38, but prepared equally well. Appetizer of rice balls is rather small for a $14.00 charge though good. As others have said, the outdoor tables are noisy right on the busy street so we requested indoors being fully vaccinated. The side room austere, but bar area brightly decorated.
Thank you so much for your review, Iris! We appreciate your feedback.
Everything was fresh and delicious. Sandwiches are huge! One easily serves two.
Thank you, Evelyn!
Outside dining, sat right on Santa Monica Ave which can be loud. Overall, the food was very good and exceeded my expectations. Pricing was fair. Overall, I'd recommend.
Thank you for your review, Howard!
Great original food. Not really Italian though. Felt like a smash up of Italian,Spanish and Asian foods - which was fine. It was all delicious and very original. Angelo our waiter was fantastic. Sat outside in Covid setup. Bus passed by a little too close. Serving sizes were a little small for the price. Recommend overall.
Thank you for your review, Mark! We appreciate your feedback.
The food was good, not over-the-moon great. One dinner out of four came out significantly ahead of the others so that was unfortunate. The peach crumble was disappointing. No crunch -- a minute under the torch could have fixed that.
Good food and wine
Thank you, Laura!
The Santa Barbara pasta was incredible. Definitely will be back.
Thank you for your review, Sabina!
Took 55 minutes to get a sandwich brought to our table. Beer was warm when it arrived 20 minutes after we ordered it.
Hi Michael, I'm sorry to hear our service did not meet up to our standards. We appreciate your feedback!
The food is different and so delicious. Not the same old same Italian. The bread is unreal. Wait staff super sweet.
Thank you, Nadine! We hope to see you again!
Good food and cocktails. Love the outdoor seating booths.
Thank you, precii!
We had a wonderful time - will definitely go back again soon!
Thank you so much for this review- we hope to see you soon!
Pleasantly surprised by this cute wine bar/restaurant - good ambience - really good food and wine - good service - attentive - overall liked it a lot and would go back!
Thank you, Nonny! We hope to see you again.
Amazing food, you have to try the OMG sandwich!!
Thank you, Dan! Glad you enjoyed our OMG
Loved every bit. The food was amazing
Thank you so much!
Incredible food. One of our favorites in SM
Excellent food, great selection of wine, and you are never disappointed with the service. Its so good to be back
Thank you so much!
For me a sandwich is all about the quality of the bread. I found out the owner buys his bread from BreadLounge in DTLA. It's kind of like a ciabatta roll, but he puts it through a special toaster and the crust gets so crisp it shatters when you bite into it. They have about a dozen different sandwiches, and we had two of them, the OMG and Chicken Tetrazzini, both on that wonderful bread. Now we've got to come back for dinner - they have roast suckling pig on the menu!
Thank you, Lindsay!
It was fantastic. I have been to Italy over forty times. Best carbonara I have ever had.
Thank you so much, Aaron! Glad you enjoyed our carbonara.
Love this place! It's my go to for lunch in Santa Monica. You can taste the quality of ingredients. The setting is stunning and the staff is pleasant. Can't wait to go back for many more lunches and try dinner!
Thank you, Brooke! We appreciate you.
