Hidalgo’s Cocina & Cócteles
El surviving no me gusto solo fueron a dejes las comidas y ya no llegaron a preguntar si necesitabamos algo mas y muy caro para la poquita comida q dieron definitivamente no mengusto
Best Margaritas! Fresh lime gives it a great flavor.
Not the best experience tonight. We were quickly seated as they were fairly dead. We have to just sit outside and we’re very happy that they automatically with a patio heater for us! Thank you! They do have a happy hour that lasts till 6:30 PM! We ordered the guacamole to go with the complementary tortilla chips and salsa. We ordered beverages with my wife going for their flight of margaritas and I their red sangria. Both beverages were very tasty and delightful, thank you! Our meals were fairly simple with my wife ordering the chicken and cheese enchiladas and our friend ordering nachos with chicken and I the calamari however the chicken with the nachos was lost in translation. I really enjoyed the calamari and mussels. I sampled my wife’s enchiladas and was not impressed. With so many good Mexican restaurants out there we were disappointed with our visit tonight. Will have to try it again sometime in the future.
Food was good as usual, but unhappy with the service. The wait for even an appetizer that was ordered took a long time, and the server was kind and she explained there was a private event being hosted and it seemed that they were more important then the others dining in.
We ate at the bar are Tony was our server. He made fantastic drinks, including a spicy little shot with tajin on the rim. The food was delicious. It's a great date night spot
Good food. We order the surf and turf molcajete. The dish had a lot of food but they only provide three tortillas and when we asked for additional tortillas that was considered a side for additional cost.
People don’t mind paying for a good meal. This however was lost in the kitchen. Must have been a fill in cook instead of a chef.
No plans of returning anytime soon!
Best part of the meal was our server.
Great service! The food came out pretty quickly! They messed up our order but fixed it quickly and gave us a discount
Great services! Our waiter checked in and kept the drinks coming.
Went for my wife’s and mother in laws bdays. Expecting the courtyard to be lit up as usual and a nice ambience. Instead it was just ur opposite of lively and the ambience lighting was not lit even after we asked. I understand it may not be the restaurants responsibility. No bday recognition either even after I included that in my reservation. That’s ok. Now we know.
Took my daughter for her birthday as I stated on the reservation but they didn’t even acknowledge it.. the service and server were berry polite and attentive. Noise level was moderate with two different music types, one on the inside of restaurant and another on the patio..
Nice ambiance and the food is very good. The prices are very reasonable.
We’ve been here a few times. Margaritas are always good. But yesterdays service was slow, and the food came cold. Usually great service and food.
Great drinks, guacamole, salsa & chips fair. Carne asada very good. Beans and rice ok
Hidalgo's now is not as good as it was when the former owners had it. Menu is not as good either. Very loud music, but attribute that to Halloween weekend. Sadly, I think they are trying to appeal to a younger crowd like most of the restaurants in Fullerton.
Slow, inexperienced and unknowledgeable service. The menu is limited and the food was mediocre. The server literally didn’t know what paella is (their most popular dish). Almost all of the mussels in the paella were unopened when served. The beans and rice tasted fishy.
Food was not good. We ordered four different dishes and everyone agreed it was pretty bad. We ended up not eating more than 3/4 of the plates. Service was slow. When we asked what was on a particular dish, our waitress didn't know. Sorry but this was the worst Mexican food we have ever had.
Was expecting excellent food based on the reviews. Menu did not offer a big selection. Food was under seasoned and had no flavor. Not what I was expecting for the price. Don’t waste your money here if you want good Spanish/Mexican food. When our server asked how our food tastes my husband told her the Cochinita Pibil has no flavor. It’s normally made with a lot of seasoning and very flavorful. Her response was this is Fullerton and we’ve had a lot of complaints about it being over seasoned so we have to appeal to those pallets. We will not ever go back….
Great food and atmosphere
Food is really really good and it’s a very pretty place. But the service was awful…ended up eating the meal with no drink refills. Also, the table we got sat at wasn’t big enough for our meal and we shared a meal. Plenty of other seats available that were a little better.
Yummy food, never disappoints
We arrived at about 7:03 pm and got seated right away. We were in a visible area in the middle of the dining room. No one ever came to greet us, offer us water or anything for over 10 min. At 7:16 we simply walked out. I don’t even know if they noticed. It’s a shame because we have frequented that place before.
This is a hidden gem here in Downtown Fullerton. Ambiance was awseome. We were seated in the patio and the lighting was just perfect. Food and beverage selections are good. Our server Paula was nice and accommodating. Will come here again.
Salmon was delicious. Our waitress was very nice and friendly.
I’ve been here before…it’s so pretty. BUT this time I made a reservation for my mother’s 82nd birthday. Due to Covid we thought it would be nice to sit in the shady central patio. Where it would be conducive to conversation and relatively safe.
What they don’t tell you when you make a reservation online is that they’ve already booked the central patio for a party and you’re not allowed to sit there. So our choices were sit inside which felt unsafe or sit outside near Harbor Boulevard which is super loud.
My mother chose to sit inside under a fan and we felt relatively safe because the doors were open and there was a breeze. As soon as we sat down the music was turned up and everyone in the restaurant started to talk really loud. My cousin asked the wait staff to turn down the music just a tad and happily, they did it. The reduced volume really helped… all the patrons relaxed and resumed speaking at a normal volume.
We were there at 5:30 in the evening early enough, we thought, to take our time, and eat some appetizers before deciding what to eat. The young waitress was pretty rushy, maybe it was her idea of good service, But she kept asking if we wanted to order and it felt intrusive. No there were not a lot of people there. In fact we were almost the first people to arrive.
It seemed every time we asked for some thing on the menu they were out of it so we were pretty confounded. Ultimately we ordered some Carne Asada tacos and those were great.
I think we ended up feeling a bit disappointed everything was just a little bit harder than it needed to be but this place has so much potential
The Short Rib Chile Relleno and the Salmon entrees were very good and something you don't usually see at a typical Mexican restaurant.
Do not filled out my expectations at all, not even the music was Mexican .
We were not pleased with our dish. I had the chille relleno and my best friend the paella. The drinks were on point! We had a couple mojitos and the sangria
It’s was my birthday and made reservations for a party of 9. When we were seated our waiter seemed bothered and annoyed. I understand that times are hard and you are short staffed. The waiter didn’t even offer dessert and I was looking forward to blowing out at one candle in front of my family. My whole experience was very sad. The manager was not to receptive to what was going on.
Had a wonderful dinner in the courtyard at Hidalgo. Service was excellent and unhurried. Food was delicious. We will definitely be back!
My four friends and I enjoyed our time and our meal very much. The only reason I rated the noise level as "energetic" is that the outside dining is next to a busy street. But after a while, the car sounds just become white noise. We stayed for almost three hours!
Great place for dinner.
Food was delicious, the setting was great, thank you.
Service was grea. Parking was far away since we didn’t know that valet parking was available. Few selections for dinner. Food was not good in comparison with prices.
My Wife and I had been wanting to come here for a few months. We finally did this weekend. We sat outside under the tropical foliage. Our server was Chaz and she was the sweetest server ever. Drinks... Old Fashioned, Cadillac, and House margarita, PERFECT!
Food...Chicken and 3 cheese enchiladas for me and Lime Garlic Butter Salmon with sautéed spinach. Out! Standing!!!!!
Will def be coming back with family and friends
Ordered the cochinita pibil. Brought me paella. Waitress argued with me when I told her this wasn't what I ordered. She said it was pibil. She gets a menu to prove her point. Realizes her error and takes away the wrong dish. The pibil I receive is bland and missing all the fixings. No onion, no cheese. Overall disappointing. Waitress does not make up for this with excellent service. She never returns to refill drinks or check on us. Just comes to take away our plates before we finished eating. The other people I was with said their drinks were strong and their tacos and wet burrito were delicious though.
Had a wonderful night out. Amazing food and ambience in the courtyard area. I couldn't have imagined it being any better.
Made a reservation to sit in the patio yet I was seated outside the restaurant on a noisy street where the ambulance passed through every 5minutes. Why even make a reservation???
Food was great. Definitely would come here again. Great service and ambience
Second time coming here, brought my parents along and they loved it too! Drinks, food and service is great here!!
They have the best margaritas here!! Service was amazing, as well as food. We will definitely be back here. If life wasn’t so busy I’d be back for a margarita the day after we went !
