James St is a casual and contemporary, brick-walled restaurant specialising in chargrilled and aged steaks. The charcoal grill plays centre stage, cooking not just some of the best steaks and prime cuts Northern Ireland has to offer but also fresh whole fish, pork and vegetables.

With a larger, more established bar area, a large range of wines are available alongside a considered spirit list and an extensive whisky offering. Locally produced beer, cider and gins take pride of place on the drinks menu.

Owned by Niall McKenna since 2003 the revamped James St. will offer locals and tourists a great dining experience in a Belfast city centre.

The restaurant team is headed up by Paul Vaughan as Operations Manager.

Bookings may be seated on stools at the bar.

The Restaurant has a 1st floor private dining room for up to 40 guests for business or pleasure. Guests dine from a fixed price set menu to suit your tastes and budget and be accompanied with a selection of wines to suit your palate and matched with the menu. Drinks receptions are also available for celebratory events and weddings.

Our group visiting Belfast from New York had a terrific experience at James St. Highly recommended for great food, atmosphere and hospitality. Will be back on our next visit.

The food and wine were amazing however we waited 40 minutes after finishing our starter until our main came. The female manager came and apologized for the wait and said she would take drinks off the bill which we were more than happy with. However, when we went to pay for our bill the male manager approached me at the till and said “by the way 40 minutes is not a long time to wait.” I found this highly inappropriate when another manager obviously thought it was a long time to wait or she wouldn’t have offered to take the drinks off the bill. It felt quite rude and took the shine off our anniversary meal.

Really disappointing meal. We were celebrating results so had booked that day There were only 4 of us so when we were told we were going to the back room where larger parties sit I asked to be placed in the main restaurant. Answer was no without checking Placed at a table with a pillar right beside us and because the tables had larger numbers felt largely forgotten. Service was slow - drinks took ages. One drink in particular didn’t come before food arrived and the waiter brought sauce by mistake! Have never experienced a bad meal here before but left thinking we were an inconvenience Will be a while before we are back if we are back again
