Went for Veterans Day and it was horrible. We ordered appetizers, that were not part of the special, and they were so over cooked we had to send them back. The whole table ordered shrimp scampi and it was overly acidic and we couldn’t eat it. We didn’t even get any bread because we were told it had been burnt. This is the location I normally visit because it is typically good but it seems as though if they are the least bit busy they cannot handle it and mess the food all up. My cocktail was made perfectly though.
Can't thank you enough for the GREAT event for our service people on Veteran's Day!!!!
They should have adequate staff so that no one should have to wait for service
The wasn’t all that great either
Because of where the restaurant is located there should valet parking
I took my wife there for our first anniversary and i was ashamed of the experience because i bragged about the restaurant i was embarrested.
I was highly DISAPPOINTED!!! We specifically chose this location because it was our wedding anniversary and this location was sentimental for the two of us. I really wished I would have chose another location. The hostess was TERRIBLE!! We had reservations, which were useless because several people got seated before we did who had checked in after us with the same reservation time. The reason I know this is because I would ask the person who was being called to be seated what time was their reservation. When I questioned the hostess she had very much ATTITUDE!!!, she looked into the computer and noticed that we were partially checked in which was an error because there were 2 in my party and we were both there when I checked us in. Then the waiter was TERRIBLE!!!! He was slow and full of errors. Even the table guest next to us were complaining as he was their waiter as well. We are no strangers to dining with McCormack and Schmick's, by far this was the VERY WORST experience ever!!!!
Went on Veterans Day, when all veterans received a free entree. Great experience overall!
As always, excellent food and service. Thanks for honoring the Veterans for serving our Country. You are the best.
The food was cold and bland - no complimentary bread was not offered and server was stretched and kept forgetting to refill drink and bring request to table.
I was there for the Veterans Day celebration which is always fabulous as usual but I enjoy their happy hour.
For the nearly 2 years I've lived in the DC area I've considered McCormick & Schmick‘s Seafood & Steaks my favorite restaurant. The upscale interior combined with superb and unique food makes this a place I always look forward to dining at when I have the opportunity. It had been three months or so since my last visit so I took some friends there last night (11/11/18) to introduce them to the restaurant I always rave about. They loved it.
This was an excellent opportunity for me. McCormick & Schmick's show the Veterans of this country the honor and respect of heroes. They went the extra mile.
We are so appreciative of the annual M&S Veterans Day dinner, and have been treated like special guests as former residents of the Portland (Oregon) area in 2003. Having moved to the Denver area in 2012, we have dined at the M&S in the Denver Tech Center the past five years. But knowing we'd be in D.C. over this year's Veterans Day, it was my husband who suggested I see if there was a location there -- which is how we happened to be there last Sunday. It was every bit as pleasant, with the same lovely ambiance as Portland and Denver! The dinner entrées were delightful (fish and chips, beef medallions done to perfection) and our two desserts (bread pudding, apple walnut pie) were scrumptious!
We hope to dine there again whenever we're back in DC on business!
I don't know if it was just because it was Veteran's Day, but the service was horrible. They wern't even crowded. Forgot my drink. Forgot the bread, had to ask again (and after the soup) the fish and chips tasted like it was micowaved, horrible!!! Our Waiter only got 10% tip, and only because I am nice. He kept walking past and never once looked. never go water refills. just Horrible service.
Excellent service fresh seafood lovely ambience. Nice place for dinner or lunch in downtown DC. Upbeat atmosphere
A fabulous restaurant that honors those who served. Fabulous food, ambience, and service was wonderful! We will be back!
Food was a bit too salty. Mussels were unevenly cooked. Tuna tartare and other apps are usually better. Steak and seafood usually good. Apps and comfort food are good, especially happy hours $4-9 half priced specials. Cocktails are usually good. Thank you for my Landry's membership birthday dinner and free dessert creme brulée!
Food took longer then reasonable. The server was decent and the place was ideal but could not understand why the delivery of the appetizers and entree took so long. It could have been better.
The lobster bisque was very salty. The crab cake was just ok and the steak was very good. The waiter was very slow. Overpriced experience.
We had 18 Vietnam Veterans come after an event on Friday...they all raved about how great the food was and how well the staff managed a large group...you made the evening perfect
Reservations were not found, had to show email confirmation and then waited for 15 mins for a table. A table located in the middle of the room, even tho there was a quite table on the left that was open. Received lunch menus not dinner menus. Could not hear the waiter, ordered drinks and wasn't asked if we would like another. I will not be bringing my clients here when I am back in town.
This was a terrible dining experience at a restaurant for which I had high expectations. I sat for a good fifteen minutes before I saw a waiter. I ordered a glass of wine which arrived just fine. The wine list was not great for by the glass but I selected my go to Pinot Grigio. I then ordered two appetizers, octopus and seared tuna and a side of grilled asparagus. The asparagus should have been listed on the menu as microwaved asparagus. It was dry and certainly not grilled. The octopus was just fine. The tuna, I sent back because it had no flavor whatsoever. I emptied my water glass, it was not refilled. I was never asked if I wanted another glass of wine (I would have liked one). After the octopus and I hear the table next to me say how good the bread was (I had none), I had to ask my waiter for bread (it was the best part of the meal). I will not go back, I will not recommend McCormick and Schmick's to others. The food was bad and the service was worse.
Service needs improvement
Food was good but service was terrible. There was no host at the front door. We (and several other customers) waited for over 10 minutes at our table before getting water. We really never knew who our server was. Wait staff was inattentive and very poorly organized. There are far better places in DC to get a good steak. We won't be returning to this restaurant.
This restaurant is adequate but not what it used to be. This restaurant specialized in seafood and my food (I got one of the trio combos) was overcooked. My boyfriend's steak was overcooked as well. Service was excellent and drinks were tasty.
The General Manager Abdel was awesome! Our waiter was energetic and genuine. Great job DC!!! Kudos
I have been going to this place for many years but there has been a considerable drop in quality. Food was below average and served at room temperature. Service was horrible. I had to wave down the waiter 4 times just to get service. I don't plan on going back here again when there are so many other good options in town at this price point.
A very nice evening hosting a business dinner. Good selection of appetizers and fresh seafood. Excellent ahi for an appetizer along with the shrimp kisses. We had the crab legs and grilled rockfish. Both entrees were well prepared and presented. Good selection of wines and spirits although I was hoping for more Irish whiskey selection than Bushmill's and Jameson's. Over all - very well done.
I did not know what to expect from a chain restaurant. We really liked the mojitos, better than the ones from our favorite Cuban restaurant. I had crab cakes, which were really large. I was concerned about the size, but they turned out tasty. I loved the salsa or relish that was on top. The green beans were excellent. My daughter had salmon, which she enjoyed. I don't remember what my husband had, but we all cleaned our plates, it was so good. It was a bit more than we expected to pay, but the food was very good, the restaurant was convenient, and the waiter was very nice. Service was a bit slow -- as indicated in the reviews we had read.
Our reservation for 10 people was at 8:45 pm. They ran out of mashed potatoes which came with most of our meals. The server was nice but the manager never came over to apologize. Considering the amount of money we spent she should have at least stopped by our table.
We had to send the steak back 4 times and they still didn’t get it right. We finally told the waiter that we didn’t want it anymore. As we were leaving, we overheard a guest complain about their steak.
great dining experience; tremendous service; good food; nice atmosphere; quiet enough to converse with family and friends around the table; will recommend to others
No where near as good as a few years ago when I went to the restaurant. Used to be a good place to have a simple fish dinner, now each dish has crab, or something added to it, which is unnecessary. It's overdoing a good thing.
The decor of the restaurant used to be great. Nice stained glass including a 'Nations Capital' sign...which appears to have been removed and replaced with much less interesting glass. Now the restaurant just looks like a bland Marriott Courtyard equipped with weird squiggly, colorful glass tubes, which match nothing in the restaurant.
In looking at other reviews online, it seems like the restaurant has taken a dive. Shame. I remember coming to the restaurant 16 years ago, and it was fantastic.
Met a long time friend at McCormick and Schmicks for dinner. Since we hadn't seen each other in a year, waiter was absolutely wonderful and let us take our time to order and linger after dinner as well. We both ordered the seafood grill and it was most enjoyable. Would highly recommend,
I was disappointed that the trout option wasn’t on the menu. But i was very pleased with the rockfish with crab. We resisted temptation tonight but we LOVE the upside down apple pie. Atmosphere is relaxing and we got a window seat to make it all the better.
Food is really excellent here. They know how to handle and cook fish. The old fashion decor is very interesting. Service is a little slow and amateurish
The food was great and the service was good, but… everything seem to have taken too long. The waiter was pleasant, but the salad arrived before our appetizer and it took too long for the wine and the bread to arrive.
Great table and good service. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. No problem with our reservation and we showed up early and were very accommodating
Server did not articulate well or receive my simple order clearly. The oysters had no taste at all and the fish was overcooked. The total meal and satisfaction was not worth the price of $83.
Sent my son and his date here for pre-homecoming dinner. Great ambience for formal date. Fresh oysters and was told everything they ordered was good. A bit pricey for high school students so the other couple was a bit surprised. We have been there a few times so it was expected. Everything was good for the exception of parking. Wish they offered valet parking. My son ended up getting a ticket. Still unsure as to why. Something about no receipt of meter paid. There was no meter around. Saturday night 7pm.
The food was fantastic....but the service was stretched too thin. Our server had too many tables to contend with so even though she was friendly, she was over-worked. She would deliver things like forks, bread, water, wine etc but not take away the old utensils/bread baskets/ etc almost to the point of being comical....literally got to the point of no room for anything b/c she would not take away used items. Also, she brought out our only ordered appetizers of oysters with our main entrees. The fastest/easiest menu item that requires no cooking and very little kitchen assistance.......meaning you put the oysters on a dish with ice and a small lemon garnish and the kitchen could not time the entrees, right? Most likely, the oysters sat out and she realized it as she was delivering the entrees. When I complained, they took the entrees back to the kitchen but then when they were delivered......they were lukewarm/room temperature....ie a steak, the steamed crab and the shrimp scampi and my bouillabaisse. Also, I went to the restroom at 825 and there was no toilet paper in the ladies room...I shared this info with the server. I went again at 935 and still no toilet paper....totally gross. Finally, as were were enjoying our dessert around 930, the other waitstaff were prepping the other tables for lunch service the next day......so bringing out dishes/glasses/silverware/changing out tablecloths all around us and the other patrons....but they were loud, talkative and created a distraction.....basically not conducive to a nice business casual but $$ restaurant. Fantastic food though...so either needs an effective manager who actually leads/instructs/guides the waitstaff or better yet trains the waitstaff on dining/restaurant etiquette. Also, must clean/visit the bathrooms to stock with the necessities.......especially after being told of the issues.
