We first experienced Merriman’s on the Big Island, where we have eaten twice. This was our first experience dining at Merriman’s in Honolulu but it won’t be our last. Our server was delightful, attuned to our needs while never being obtrusive. We started with cocktails (Old Fashioned and beautiful vodka drink with lilikoi foam, both expertly mixed) and shared the Caesar Salad, which came with fried “avocado croutons” and a light, slightly citrus-y dressing. My husband had the taro enchiladas with grilled prawns on the side - the sauce was just hot/spicy enough. I had the lobster “shepherd’s” pie, topped with a puff pastry and extremely decadent. Every bite redolent with the taste of lobster. My husband ended with sorbet - I think ube - and I ended with a very smooth dark roast coffee (French press). If you are looking for local ingredients expertly reimagined, this is the restaurant. Thank you!

Our server, the food, and the other employees we encountered were all exceptional. The poke was amazing! The burger was so good my mouth is watering just writing this review. The Makai special was mahi…the fish was perfectly cooked and the flavors were outstanding. Also - best ice cream we’ve had in a while!! I would come back here in a heartbeat. We felt taken care of and that our experience mattered to the folks working.

Mixed feelings. Pretty good food quality but diminished value compared to past visits. Our waiter was overloaded during peak dinner service. Certain f&b selections were sold out. There was a kitchen charge added to the bill. Prices did not justify these shortcomings. Will stick to happy hour and maybe lunch--definitely not dinner again, unfortunately.

The ginger beer, lemonade, shrimp and poke appetizers, Mediterranean Salad, fish, enchilada, and bread pudding were outstanding. The woman who waited on us was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. She congratulated us on our wedding anniversary and brought us a complimentary dessert. That was very thoughtful. We noticed there were families with young children. All in all, it was a great dining experience, and we will be back.

Everything was good, except that because there were no available table inside, we had to settle for outside dining (we've been there countless times and always had inside seating) and there were a couple of pesky flies that bothered us.

The French Fries and the Bread Pudding were cold but, fortunately so was the Draft Beer. The Hamburger was tasty but also could have been hotter. The Fish Tacos were OK. The Mai Tais were good but could have used a little more Rum.

Our reservation was at 8:15, ordered a round of drinks for the table and ordered around 8:30-8:40. We didn’t receive our food until 9:30…. Granted there were 6 of us, 2 out of 6 ordered SALADS as our entree… Price isn’t reasonable for the quality, I’d much rather go elsewhere. Service was slow and mediocre. Kitchen charge of 4%

Great experience from beginning to end. Our server Elaine was fabulous-attentive and knowledgeable regarding all the dishes. We had the Octopus Escargot which was unique and tasty and the Wagyu Berger best ever. We can’t wait to go back

We love lunch at Merrimans. The menu is varied enough to be interesting and ingredients are always local and fresh. It is a great place for excellent oysters and a glass of champagne. The fish sandwich and fries were very good. I notice that they have shrunk the size of the salads significantly but, for me, the size is just right and they don't overdress the salads. The service is very good and the location offers just enough "urban buzz" to provide energy without being a distraction.

Wow! This spot was recommended by our glass bottom boat tour operators and it did not disappoint. From the moment that we walked in the door, we felt like we hit the dining jackpot. For an appetizer, we had the bag o’ biscuits and I promise you that they were the best restaurant biscuits I’ve ever had. The butter topped with sea salt was the special touch I never knew I needed. The cocktails were splendid as well. I had a couple different ones… but that’s none of your business 🤣 Try the Mai Tai. The egg white foam was new to me and now I don’t want my mai tai any other way. My entree was the cast iron organic chicken. It was fantastically seasoned and cooked perfectly. But honestly, the seafood is the star of this menu. I don’t eat seafood, but I was so tempted. You won’t be disappointed. My server, Jena was professional, well-informed and attentive (even with a busy dinner crowd). Don’t skip this one.

Our first time at Merriman’s in Honolulu. Great meal—I had a smoky old fashioned before dinner and was one of the best old fashioned I’ve ever had! My wife had the spicy shrimp appetizer and gave it a thumbs up. I had the roasted beet salad which was very good. We both had fish—I had the ono special and my wife had the macadamia crusted fish ( mahi-mahi last night) both perfectly prepared and delicious. Our first time there, but won’t be our last!!

Once again, the food, the service and the experience at Merriman's in Honolulu was amazing. We had the Lobster Pot Pie which had a mixture of tail meat, claw meat and scallops with a delicious broth/sauce and some veggies. The flavor was truly unique with some anise or similar spice in the background. The shellfish flavor was not overwhelmed by the sauce but beautifully complimented. And then the chicken...we found this to be one of the best roast chicken dishes we had every eaten, period. The restaurant is a little pricey for Honolulu, but not expensive compared to fine dining outside of Hawaii and Merriman's does it right. Paul, our server, was professional and very personable. He was present when needed but not overbearing. We were not hurried, but were also not left wondering. Dishes arrived together on time. No shortcomings that I can call out. Definitely worth a visit in my opinion.

Service was outstanding all the way from greeting to completion. We have frequented this restaurant regularly over the years and service is always top notch. Only drawback and is very minor but the fish was overcooked, maybe newer chef.

Service was great, food was so tasty. It was my 3rd time to visit to celebrate a special occasion. Last visit, we left a reservation note that we were celebrating ‘Birthday’ and got beautiful ‘Happy Birthday’ writing on the dessert plate but this time we hadn’t received.

Kai was amazing & had great recommendations, but he did forget one of the apps he recommended that we ordered. Everything else was superb. Kai & staff were attentive, the drinks were all very good. Menu is a little limited, but everything tastes so good. GREAT oysters & drinks We had a Smokey old fashioned, Mai tai, this cute clue drink & a takin mango marg - all very well done and none of them were too sweet.

This would have been a 5 star review easy, the food was delicious, but they brought it all out at the same time? Just as we started eating our delicious Caesar salad and humans appetizers the burger , fries and enchilada we ordered were set on the table? So I kept my cool, we finished our appetizers and they we started our cool main courses. We were really shocked, never should have happened in a 5 star restaurant.

Good food! Not too expensive! But drinks (old fashioned & espresso martini) are too expensive and too watery. smoked old fashioned was supposed to be smoky but was not really smoky (waitress forgot anyway to light it up in the beginning). Overall OK but I would not order drinks anymore!
