Moro restaurant in London’s Exmouth Market may retain its reputation as one of the hippest restaurants in one of the hippest parts of the capital, but this Clerkenwell restaurant still focuses more on good food than its own image. Moro’s décor with its polished wooden floors, long zinc bar, open view to the kitchen and its charcoal grill and wood-burning oven, is functional and welcoming. Cuisine of the southern Mediterranean, from the Iberian Peninsula into Northern Africa, is the menu’s exclusive province.

Del equipo editorial de OpenTable: Nearly three decades on from the camper van trip through Spain, Morocco, and the Sahara that inspired it, Moro remains one of London's most enduring restaurants. Husband-and-wife team Sam and Sam Clark built something singular in 1997, a cooking vocabulary that fuses Andalusian fire with Moorish spice. Order the charcoal-grilled lamb with chermoula alongside the mixed vegetable mezze and wash it through with a fino or manzanilla sherry. The open kitchen, lively crowd, and the smell of the grill brings the Mediterranean to Clerkenwell. London Icons were chosen by a panel of top hospitality critics and industry leaders, appointed by OpenTable, from a pre-selected shortlist.

At the heart of the Moro kitchen is the wood-fired oven, where our Sunday roasts slowly take shape. Segovian suckling pig, Pyrenean milk-fed lamb, Galician beef and Sutton Hoo chicken emerge from the flames alongside whole bream, seasonal roasted vegetables and our much-loved sourdough bread. Our Sunday Lunch Club is a celebration of the great Sunday feast; A weekly occasion that is generous, convivial and made for sharing. The table begins with a spread of starters, followed by wood-fired roasts with seasonal sides, and ends with something sweet. All that’s left to do is settle in, share generously and let the wood oven do the rest. £45 for two courses | £55 for three courses We look forward to welcoming you!

My partners seabass was tiny and overcooked. My lamb was fine but the rice accompaniment was inedible.. The manager took the price of the fish off the bill but still tried to include service charge. A shame as we've enjoyed moro before but won't be going back.

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to enjoy this beautiful restaurant, a few sneaky trips to Morito do not count, but a birthday for a friend finally allowed a few old work colleagues to get together and the choice was Moro. The food evolves over the years but the heart of the restaurant hasn’t changed. Woodfire bread, seafood brick, mezzes and classic chocolate and apricot tart didn’t disappoint. My friend asked for the menu to be signed by the owners, delighted to hear their daughter is now cooking in the open plan kitchen, I wish I lived closer and this was my neighbour restaurant choice. You won’t regret visiting.

Booked a table (I've eaten at Moro a few times) for seven, including two friends from Spain. Contacted the restaurant beforehand to ask for help as my friends speak no English; we were provided with a member from staff who explained every detail from the menu in a detail beyond my capabilities. My friends were welcomed warmly and the staff member spent as much time as needed; to my shame I have forgotten the young lady's name (she was from Catalonia). The service was excellent throughout the evening. (as per previous visits) The food was outstanding, even managing to impress my guests; if anyone knows anything about Andaluces, they are very particular about food! My English friends were equally impressed on their first visit. Outstanding!

Lovely place in nice surroundings. The service was a bit wobbly - eccentric, all very ... personal. Food: Sunday special and I think we pretty much tried it all. All very nice, but the starters and the desserts really stood out. Will visit again.
