Niwa Japanese BBQ

The months that Niwa was closed were some of the darkest months of my life. I missed the sizzle, the flair, the umami....and the corn! It's our favorite restaurant in Dallas. The staff is wonderful, the owner is charming and the food is so, so, so good! I hope they open a location in Austin soon!

Everytime we come here we are so happy, everything is always delicious and the service is top notch! Really just go all in here, you don't want to miss out on anything.

Great vibes

Niwa is one of my favorite places to visit in Deep Ellum. This was my first time back during COVID and they are definitely following all the social distancing rules. Service was a little slow however than usual. They have happy hour all night Tuesday but the happy hour portions are much smaller than the regular portions. But it makes it good if you like to try different meats and can sample a little of everything. Overall great experience.

My favorite place it’s always so yummy and amazing! You can not go wrong with anything on the menu :)

Anniversary

I have to echo other reviews---simply awesome. From the service to the food and atmosphere, outstanding! Anything you order here will exceed your expectations. From the simple small salad and miso soup, to the cherry wood smoked filet---perfection. We had the gyoza, they make one batch daily so get this if you can. We rounded out with shrimp, short rib and ribeye on the meat front; with zuccini and peppers/onions on the veggie front. All were fresh and tasty. Nice cold pitchers of Sapporo were an great way to wash it all down. If you have room (we didn't but ate it all anyway), get the coffee parfait for dessert. YUM! And Jimmy the owner was a constant present, from delivering free samples to clearing tables. Mallory was our server and was spot-on. We can't wait to come back here.

Service was a little slow but the place was busy. Food was great and atmosphere was nice.

The food was amazing but if you want the full experience be prepared to spend well over $100 other wise you might not get full because the portions are small

Good and atmosphere were exactly perfect!

This was my husband and I first time here and we just thought it was exceptional! Our waiter was amazing and very attentive to our needs. The manager also let us sample Wagyu beef. It was spectacular! The food was great and it was really fun to cook our food on the grills. Very cool experience and we can't wait to go back.

Server was great. I forgot his name, but he had tattoos and was very attentive and friendly. Food was great as usual.

We were extremely happy with our experience at Niwa. This was due in no small part to Joe’s attention to detail and friendly demeanor. I’ve had the privilege of being helped by some truly world-class servers in my lifetime, and Joe is absolutely on that short list. He was quick, attentive, helpful, friendly, all while being unobtrusive. The food and the experience were great, but thanks to helpful staff the evening was an absolute joy.

We had a great time! It was our first time going and we will definitely be back!

The food is excellent but the price is also high.

Very disappointed in the food as this is not my first time dining. I’m a local and bring people in from out of town. Japanese cuisine takes pride in the skill of the knife. The meat and veggies that we ate could not be eaten with chopsticks and had to be cut before out on the grill. Really unhappy. Spent $154 without tip for 2 people.

If you like Actual Korean BBQ...don’t do it.
I guess you pay for the area? I ordered Beef Belly, zucchini, and rice. FYI everything you order is priced separately including the rice. I believe the only seasoning that was available in kitchen was salt, everything was so beyond salty! To the point I was so grateful for the plain white rice to try to wash the meat down with.
Unfortunately my first experience there was not so good, my friend got corn, which was salty as well, and the filet. She said the filet was good, but tiny! So basically smaller than an appetizer.

Zucchini, Beef Belly (4 strips around bacon size) rice, shot of saki= $20

I was hungry after the meal..pretty disappointed.

Great food. Fun experience for a group. The prices on the menu are for 3.5 oz portions, so you will likely end up ordering several different items. The service was excellent and explained everything honestly and clearly.

Food was good and reasonably priced. Wasn’t a fan of the cocktail before dinner and service was slow. That has to do with the restaurant being a fancy place. Leave yourself about an hour and half for dinner. Parking was hard to find as it was a Weekend.

Everything post seating but the check in experience was disappointing. There was a person working at check in. Answering the phone. Playing around with an iPad and very studiously ignoring the people waiting. I was politely waiting to be at least looked at when another person just pushed past me and asked for a seat. The lady

Food, drinks, and service were great as always.

Felt unorganized for a high end restaurant. Waiter forgot some items. For the price I don’t think it was worth it. Gyu Kaku another Japanese bbq restaurant, is amazing for the price. I think they need to take notes from them to be honest. Portion was terrible for the price at Niwa.

Food was fantastic for the Valentine’s Day fixed menu. The A5 Wagyu was worth every penny. My only beef was that the wait staff seemed like they were phoning it in. While this is to be expected from most restaurants where servers know they are guaranteed a check amount, I was a bit disappointed to see it at my favorite restaurant in Dallas.

Luckily the courses were so fantastic that I still had to give this place a very well-deserved 5 stars.

This was a fantastic first experience! Every bite was thoughtful and delicious. We were blown away, from the cocktails to dessert. Our server was accommodating, as we had a show to get to, but still kept the service top notch. We can’t wait to back with friends.

A great dinner! Amazing food! The room temp was cold though

We ended up having one more to our party than originally planned. Hostess (wavy dark hair with bangs and glasses) seemed very off put even though we were willing to wait an extra hour for a larger table. We waited no problem, as the fault was our own. However, her attitude rubbed me the wrong way. When we left to go have drinks while waiting my friend even commented on the way she handled me. I use the word handled because that’s how it felt. Not accommodating what so ever, just handled. I have been in the industry 10 years and definitely understand busy nights and the stress that comes with it, but we were not being demanding, honestly would’ve even been okay waiting longer.
Not what I expected and definitely caught me off guard.

Oh! So lovely! The food was delicious and my waitress was absolutely amazing!!!

Niwa is always a fun experience. The food is great but a bit pricey. The service is always excellent. And the drink selection was solid.
