Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.

Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

    This is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland and one I always send folks to. The roti plus curry is absolutely delicious! We had Oma’s table for the first time and it was fabulous. Highly recommend! 🙌

    What an amazing experience. Christine and the staff at Oma’s were so great and accommodating. The food, as always, was so delicious. Can’t wait to come back.

    We enjoyed our meal very much. We had a reservation and was quickly seated and our waitress was very attentive. Food was excellent although the appetizers were a bit pricy. The roti canai was amazing but at $16 for one piece with diameter of about 6 inches, I thought it was too expensive even though it came with a satay dip. Salted Egg Yolk curry fries were just OK. There was not enough curry sauce to make the fries special and most of it was eaten with the ketchup that came with it. The plate of fries was $12. Crispy eggplant appetizer was excellent but the bowl was about 6 inches in diameter for a cost of $17. Main course was more reasonable with the Ayam Goreng Berempas (crispy chicken) well worth the $29. We got 3 pieces of chicken (one wing, one drumstick and one thigh). Overall, it was a very nice dinner but next time, we may not get so many appetizers.

    We celebrated our 14 yo's bday with friends and everyone loved it - the food, the decor, the service. Our waiter was OUTSTANDING and made it special for the bday kid (and the rest of us). We tend to go to Oma's (or Gado Gado) for our family's special celebrations - we are so fortunate to have such spectacular options close by!

    Incredible food, service. Loved the patio, the art work, and the family style rice table. Everything was delicious! From the drinks to the apps to the dessert. Our server said she wished she was dining with us. Great experience, 10/10 recommend!

    We enjoyed our dinner at Oma's, opting for the family style dinner with fried chicken. We added the special - pork spare ribs- which were the weak point of the dinner. We would skip that dish in the future. Dessert was also a pass, but the rest of the dinner was yummy!

    Everything we tasted at Oma's Hideaway was truly delicious! Our highlights were the Roti Canai and the Chinese BBQ Pork. Service was lovely and well-paced. The house-made chili sauce/salsa is something I'll be craving for a long time. If we didn't live so far away, we'd be regulars!
