An institution to Burgers, Bars and New York. I visit every trip to NY.
P.J. Clarke's is an NY institution and anyone in the city would be remiss not to give this historic restaurant a try. The moment you walk in you are transported to the mid 1900's - the feel is exactly what you'd expect and the thought up bumping into Sinatra or Buddy Holly does not seem too far fetched. The food is great, the service is superior or equal to the best of Manhattan and who doesn't love eating at a place who's been doing it right since 1884.
I visit New York every year and PJ Clarke's became a favorite until this year. I ate there twice, and the first trip was great with a great server and a great experience like usual. The second visit when I brought my daughter in law for a fun night out, I ordered exactly what I had ordered two days prior - lobster- I was approached by the manager and told they did not have lobster by itself. I had been served a whole lobster a few days prior, so I said that, and was told in an argumentative way that they did not have lobster in that form. ??? He then mentioned steamed and I told him that I had not asked for steamed lobster, I asked for LOBSTER! I was in a full blown humiliating and embarrassing argument with the manager saying that they were always wonderful and that I was sure what ever he brought would be great and he was still arguing with me. The server was nowhere to be found. We finally got refills on drinks that we had gotten at the bar as the brought our food. I have NEVER been treated this way in a restaurant EVER. He offered a free desert to make up for the humiliation through his rude an inattentive server, and we took him up on one piece of cake, but we will never be back. No more $350.00 meals for our customers and no more visits for us. We will take our business elsewhere.
Great food & service...can’t wait to go back!
This place is amazing. The staff was very attentive and fun to talk to. The food was fantastic I recommended the the Cadillac burger and the ribeye! Will be back.
great place to hang out with friends. The hamburgers are to die for as is the rest of the menu. Prices are very reasonable and the restaurant has great ambiance.
Had a wonderful Caesar salad with grilled chicken. My daughter chose the pot pie and it was absolutely delicious. Cool atmosphere and attentive staff.
Excellent from moment we entered until we left. Sarah was fantastic!
I was a regular in the mid 80's...a return visit did not disappoint! I loved every minute, especially visiting with waitress Pat. Great food & ambience. I miss the old phone booth. Keep the tradition going!
This place is superb! My wife and I went for brunch last Saturday and we couldn't have been happier. We both had burgers, she had the Cadillac burger and I had the BBQ Blue Cheese burger. They were quite fast in service as well as cooked to perfection. Very tasty indeed. My only reservation about this place was the dessert, we had the chocolate Oreo cake. It sounded very nice in the menu but in reality there was much left to be desired. I will definitely be coming back and trying their other dishes. Probably not having any more desserts there.
Everyone was so friendly and accommodating!
So Incredibly loud, it was difficult to carry on conversation.
The food and service is always great here. My steak was perfect and they have the best passionfruit cosmo too!
PJ Clarke’s is simply brilliant. Always a fantastic atmosphere - love it!
Consistant. Consistent quality, consistent service. Great place!
I haven’t been for about 10 years but it hasn’t changed. Busy bar, beautiful brick facade and charming staff.
Food was great tables are unfortunately placed very close together, so other conversations are easily overheard. Not ideal for an intimate occasion.
Overall I will return again when in NYC as its got great character and a vibe to it, a NYC icon.
Had a great experience! Food was excellent, staff was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was old-school cool. Loved it!
Arrived before the dinner rush and stayed well into it. I have to say our waitress was the best server I have had in a while. She checked in on us but never rushed us and when she didn’t know something about the beer my friend wanted to order she went to the bartender to get the answer (so many servers are afraid to say “I don’t know, but I’ll find out). We shared a burger and the fish and chips. I thought the burger was excellent but the fries were a little disappointing. The fish and chips was a generous portion and the fish was hot and crispy if not a little under seasoned and again with the unimpressive fries. I will say that I very much enjoyed the unusual ketchup that they had on the table and that did help the fries.
Once the place got busy it did get loud and crowded, but I liked that it was filled with neighborhood people, young families and older couples.
The bar in front was super busy when we walked in around 5:30 and just as busy when we left two hours later.
We arrived a little bit early, and management still accommodated us. Even though we were not all there. They made our life very easy. Food is in tastic, service is perfect. Burgers are the best in the city.
I used to visit PJ’s in the 90’s when I worked in the area. It was the best place to mingle. Returned after years with some friends and the vibe is still great. The service was very good and attentive. I was a little disappointed that the portions were not as they used to be (or at least a bit more) considering the prices had increased a great deal. The Irish coffee was amazing.
Burgers were fantastic! So was the smores sundae!
Sempre un must.
Food was very overpriced. I paid 27 bucks for a burger that tastes the same as my girlfriends burger, which cost 10 dollars less.
We had a great time at P.J. Clark’s. I have been stopping off here for over 40 years and the place looks just the same. It is comfort food with a capital “C” and a neighborhood spots hang-out. We have a little corner that is just right for a cold January night—-it was 6 degrees. The bloody Marys are the size of a soda fountain milkshake and are the best of their kind. We started with oysters on the half shell and ended by sharing an old fashioned warm
apple cobbler. Our team didn’t win, but we always win with good food and company at P.J. Clark’s—-a little bit of little old New York!
P.J.s experience was outstanding. The ambience with the exposed brick and history of this building and the unchanging atmosphere is always worth it. The burger is just the right size with the quality of the meat and bread being fantastic. The wait staff is always very accommodative and friendly. I always look forward to the experience.
Good for historic ambiance. Service was good. Food is just average and drinks are average to slightly above average and both are greatly over-priced for the quality. Burgers are not nearly as good as Corner Bistro or J.G. Melon. Fries were undercooked and greasy. The ice cream sundae was excellent. You go here because it is supposedly a N.Y. Institution, not for the the food and drink. Unfortunately is now more for tourists than a place where Manhattanites frequent.
One of my favorite places for great food and great atmosphere!
Ordered the Cadillac burger with fried egg. Delicious. Quick and easy business lunch.
I'm sorry to say that my lunch at PJ Clarke's was disappointing. My daughter's cheeseburger tasted like fish. Are they grilling burgers on the same grill as the fish??? Also, I ordered the lobster roll. While it was tasty, no way was there 1 1/2 pounds of lobster on the roll. Very disappointing...especially for the cost! Not going back.
Great. Perfect ambiance
Ticket wait time was way too long.
Great we had a very nice time
Overpriced hamburgers that were so-so and customizing them made them even more expensive. $6 for a strip of bacon? Really. Chicken sandwich was undercooked. Disappointing. Burgers look great but two customized burgers, one chicken sandwich and a fish taco appetizer shouldn’t cost $100. No drinks, no dessert. Geez.
Average at best, food came out cold and the waiter just hounded us to order more drinks. We were there for a business lunch.
Quintessential NYC public, food is great, service is attentive, and there's great vibe. Definitely recommend.
Ordered the fish and chips and the fish tasted funny. Had the pecan pie for dessert and it was a disappointment. Love this place for the ambience but not the food.
This is my third time at this restaurant. Every time the food is good quality. This time my burger arrived cold at the table.
Even though the restaurant was not full, I felt as if the personnel were trying to get us to finish fast with our dinner.
Great food, fish n chips were amazing, very light super crispy batter and their burgers are delicious guilty pleasures. They don’t have high chairs but are extremely friendly and hospitable helping out with our with our baby any way we needed 😊
Great service and amazing food. Will eat here every trip to NYC in the future. This is where locals go.
Really enjoyed this place. Fantastic food and service
