Fantastic service. Excellent meal. I eat a steak at least once a week and the grass fed local dry aged 20oz bone in rib eye is the best steak I’ve ever eaten. David was incredibly attentive, extremely well-versed on the menu to answer all questions, helped me pick the exact perfect temperature and cut, and even accommodated my obnoxious Keto requests to remove all carbs... The spinach, escarole and cream is a sleeper hit and I highly recommend. Will absolutely be back for a cozy winter dinner. Thank you!!

Being from Wisconsin, I knew the cheeseheads would know beef. I was not disappointed! I also LOVED the cheese curds. The steaks were delicious, but I honestly the sides were really phenomenal. The sweet potato hash was perfect. I also loved the cinnamon macarons at the end of the meal-honestly I wish I could buy a dozen to take home with me. Our server was knowledgeable, courteous, and funny. I'll definitely be going back.

Great location. Great food and lots of selection. Service is top notch! Filet and duck was excellent. Great recommendation on wine pairing with food. The bananer desert is a must try! Enjoy the great experience!

The service was great, from start to finish. Got upsild on a local grass fed, dry aged Kansas City Strip. A bit tough, and as such a bit disappointing.

Wow! Rare was our best dinner of the week. We wanted a nice meal, but this place was much higher end than expected. Ordered cocktails, salads, lobster and steak, and dessert. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. We would gladly go back.

What a great find! Sorry that it took us nearly a year after opening to discover Rare. The steak selections are both traditional and unique. Where else can you get a rib cap in DC? The duck was amazing, and I highly recommend the steak tartare for 2. The bananas foster, also amazing. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was lovely. This is a great addition to the DC restaurant scene. We'll definitely be going back!

What led me to choose Rare for my occasion was something which can be surprisingly hard to find even among other "must-see" establishments: they had a great selection. There were 12 cuts to choose from, ranging from the workhorse rib eye to the ultra premium A-5 wagyu. Supporting this array of meat is a well rounded menu, with more classical choices, but of course the reason to come here is for the steaks. The sides are also intriguing, and while they are a little eccentric, they all compliment the entrees very well.

The steak was great, everything our server promised. It was cooked exactly as requested, and the meat was left to shine; not over-seasoned or "bistrofied"; it was an excellent piece of beef, cooked very well, on a plate. It absolutely hit that carnivorous itch.

We did have an issue with the other, non-steak entree, lobster that had been somewhat overcooked; however, the staff was sure to check how things were going, and when they discovered the issue, the meal was removed, from our table and our bill, without hesitation or question.

Surrounding the meal were appetizers and dessert, both excellent, and both served with a table-side flair (though this was specific to the two items we selected). The cocktails were also top notch, among those rare examples that really do stand out from your usual concoction. The staff were wonderful, attentive and orderly in that way that makes you feel like royalty, but also friendly and conversational; they really felt like they were there as your guide through the meal. The wine list, which we didn't sample, was extensive and well-rounded.

It is pricey. To be honest, paying $50+ for a steak without any sides included, not even salad, feels a touch opulent; but it's a top steakhouse in Washington. I have no regrets, and will absolutely return for special occasions and events. The experience is well worth it, and for a few extra tens of dollars, Rare is a fantastic place for special moments and great food.

The streak was delicious. Poor service diminished the experience. Although the maitre’d was awesome (Ferraz) the wait staff was subpar. The sides left something to be desired. I’d say stick to the Tavern rather than the steakhouse.

Beautiful Ambiance and great service. The food was tasty and well plated. They offer valet for only 8.00. The location is convenient. I would definitely recommend this to friends and family.

It was a very enjoyable evening with friends as we all agreed that the food, service and ambiance was great. We had nice selection of wines and cocktails for starters. The bartenders were very knowledgeable and friendly. The apps and main selections are wonderful and we all had something different. Our server suggestions were awesome and tasty. I would definitely recommend to anyone and would visit here again.

Went on double date with another couple. Had a great time with them. We didn’t receive one of the items we ordered and were disappointed with that as well as the lack of attention to our drinks. We had to ask for drinks twice, and the restaurant was not very busy. Also, it took longer than usual to get a condiment, horseradish, for our oysters, therefore they were not enjoyed as usual but were ok.

From the moment we walked in, I was in awe. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and boy did we have a great time. From our server Dave, to the food runner with the glasses, to the manager Justin! We had a phenomenal time. The steaks were ... OMG,I can’t even describe it. This was by far the best steaks, the best restaurant we have ever been to. My boyfriend loves to put salt on everything and he didn’t even need salt for the steaks! That says a lot right there. We live In New Jersey and we will definitely be back to a Washington... JUST FOR THE RESTAURANT ALONE! Thanks to the staff, the food but more importantly the STAFF. I am telling everyone about this place! Thank you guys so much. We will see you soon!


A day later and we’re still dreaming about the food.

Hands down, the nicest place I've ever been. I had the 20oz dry aged Delmonico cooked medium and it was beyond perfect. Out table shared (all of the sides are shareable for 3 people, at least) the kale salad and the asparagus. Both were outstanding. Dessert was their reconstructed version of Key Lime Pie; never had key lime pie taste as good.

The staff was well versed and could answer any question about the menu.

Not a thing bad I can say; this dining experience was as close to a religious experience as it gets.

We came here for my birthday. The server David was very friendly and made the evening very enjoyable. The garlic bread was very tasty. The rib cap steak was. Sry tender but it had too much salt. Overall, I still enjoyed it. I would come again but I would just ask that th y go easy on the salt.

Warm and enthusiastic (but not intrusive) service by our server. The crab cake was as unusual and interesting as our server had said it would be. The bone-in rib eye was astoundingly tender, with a perfect crust. I had mine topped with blue cheese (more expensive than I had anticipated it would be--$14), which was itself run under the broiler and was an amazing selection that complemented the beef nicely.

We enjoyed everything about Rare. The build out is very well done. The entire staff was outstanding. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and was happy to talk with us about the dry-aging process and the way the steaks are cooked. We look forward to returning to Rare soon.

We ate here (upstairs) for the first time during Restaurant Week, so our experience may not have been typical, but we were underwhelmed by the food and service. Our appetizers -- kale salad and ham & curds -- were delicious, but it was a bit downhill from there. The server kept setting dishes in front of the wrong person. The bread rolls seemed designed more for Instagram -- they looked nice, but were dense and messy to eat. Our main courses arrived while we were still eating our appetizers, and after some extremely awkward back and forth with the server, the manager stepped in and offered to send the food back to the kitchen until we were ready. My steak was was fine, but neither the presentation (garnished with a single clove of garlic) nor the steak itself were particularly impressive. A side of asparagus was so undercooked and fibrous it was difficult to eat. Desserts (angel food cake and chocolate pot de creme) were OK, but once again seemed more focused on appearance than taste. If we had been trying to catch a show or movie after dinner, we might have appreciated the fast pacing of the meal, but it felt like we were being rushed. They even took our dessert order at the beginning of the meal rather than after we had finished our main courses.

The manager surprised us with free refills on our wine as an apology for the service issues, and while we certainly appreciated the gesture, we hadn't planned to drink that much on a weeknight. The dining room itself was very nice and although fairly full, was quiet enough to carry on a conversation. The Restaurant Week menu was a good value, but I'm not sure we'd go back and pay full price with so many other options in the area.

I have traveled the world and every major city in the US, and this was BY FAR the best steak house I’ve ever been in. The bread is like nothing you’ve ever had. Rolled like a cinnamon roll, but all savory, garlic, garlic and herbs, topped by finely shredded parm. Appetizers were delish, the sides, especially corn pudding were amazing, but the steaks and scollops best I’ve ever had. My daughter had Scollops and they had the perfect seer and were soft and delicate. The risotto sublime. Husband had a 13 oz dry aged bone in strip steak that he loved. I had the center cut ribeye and it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Hard seer on outside, perfect mid-rare center. The best part was the seasoning. I’ve never had a steak that I didn’t need to add salt and pepper too! The used a heavy course salt and it was perfect! Highly recommend when in DC

My wife and went to Rare Steakhouse for my birthday dinner and we were delighted with each of the delicious selections we ordered based on the recommendations from the experienced waiter, David M. Thank you, David! Everything was mouth-watering and each bite to be savored. While we don't venture down to DC (from Rockville) too very often, this was truly worth the trip!

Wife and I ordered two steaks different cuts, both medium rare. Mine was the 20oz dry aged ribeye and hers was the 10oz ribeye cap. Both had great flavor however the chef doesn’t know what temp medium rare is.

Mine was cooked to medium well and my wife’s was rare. It’s very unfortunate the food wasn’t prepared properly because I bet my steak would have been superb at medium rare instead of so dry.
