Next time you're in Colchester we thoroughly recommend you visit Riyasat. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were given a warm and attentive welcome. Amazing food. The visit was one of the highlights of our weekend

On arriving not impressed with A4 printed signs on the window and doors saying “We are Open”. this was our second visit having originally been not long after they first opened. Service was far less attentive than first visit. Table of six - drinks ordered and only 5 delivered to table after reminder last drink arrived. Only 3 beers available Guinness, Stella or a pale ale - remember this is an Indian restaurant not even bottled Indian beer. Starter and main dishes were ok. Ordered deserts and then told one choice not available. Deserts not as good as previous the sticky toffee pudding was dry. Tried to order coffee and as per our first visit of a few months ago the coffee machine was not working so no coffee. I went to pay the bill, first bill was not ours, second bill caused an argument as I was charged for drinks we hadn’t had before then realising this too was not our bill. One further point one female toilet out of service exactly as months before. We had high hopes of this restaurant as it is a beautiful building and website promised so much. Sadly not impressed and having tried twice will not be returning.

Service to start with was great, drinks ordered straight away, 2 staff members came over to take out food order so happy days and food came out promptly. The poppadum's and sides were questionable, the main was nice. But once food arrived, the service really went down hill, we had to ask on numerous occasions for another drink, took about 15-20 minutes for this, and we asked 3 times for the bill. Overall, food was good, but the service in the end really let it down unfortunately.
