I’ve been to Sakerum before and remember having a pleasant experience but last night the service was terrible. It took 15-20 minutes for a server to ask us what we wanted to drink. Then we waited 40 minutes for our appetizers with zero apology from the staff. I ordered something that was supposed to have shaved truffles on top but they certainly didn’t have any truffle flavor OR smell. I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon.
Beyond disappointed in my experience here and would give it 0 stars if I could. Having been here before, I thought it would be the perfect spot to bring an out of town friend - boy was I wrong. Despite having an 8 pm reservation, waited an hour for a table after the hostess skipped my group to serve a walk-in couple. While waiting at the bar we were repeatedly ignored by the bartender and waited 15 minutes to get a drink menu. When we finally were offered a table it was a sad corner hightop RIGHT in the middle of all the service traffic so we opted to wait another 30 minutes for a better table.
The manager was gladly taking care of every other guest in the restaurant and even moved another couple from the exact same table before seating us but never bothered to check on us. During dinner, the server messed up our order and forgot two entrees for my group and our drink orders never came even though we still got charged. A free app or drink would've gone a long way to make up for such a horrible experience, but none were offered.
Will not be coming here again until service dramatically improves.
Fantastic dining experience - hip and trendy - great food - would definitely recommend !
Incredible food and great ambiance.
Nice decor but food was overpriced in my opinion.
We loved everything we had! From the edamame, to the nigiri to the special maki rolls. Everything was awesome! Highly recommend!
Food was amazing! Excellent service as well. It was a perfect birthday dinner.
Food was delicious! There is not one thing on this menu that disappoints! The drinks are interesting and fun. The atmosphere is perfect for date night or a girls night out! It is my new favorite spot. I highly recommend!
Had a great time. The staff and ambiance were great! I will definitely be back and will recommend Sakerum to my friends.
The food was great and the atmosphere was pretty and whimsical. There was a drink on the menu that I wanted to taste, but they were out of the main ingredient - our reservation was 6pm on a Saturday - so I'd assume everything would be in stock. I noticed a back room where you can have a private dinner with friends - looked so cute - definitely a birthday dinner with friends option!
Sakerum is an absolutely beautiful place. They did a wonderful job with the decor and ambiance. Dishes are small and prices steep, so prepare to dish out some cash if you want to go home satisfied. I would definitely not come here on a regular basis, but it's worth the occasional splurge. The food was fresh and drinks pretty good. I would say that they ran out of multiple drinks/food items that I tried to order so that was a bit disappointing. It was also FREEZING where we sat. My hair was literally moving with the AC blasting on my face... it made the dinner quite uncomfortable. Also the service, while overall friendly, was painfully slow. It took a good half hour for our server to take our food orders after we ordered drinks. Waiting for each dish was also quite a slow process, which was surprising considering the plates are so small. Overall, the food is delicious and if you're looking for a place to enjoy a good fusion meal, go for it. Just don't expect the service to match the check!
We love Sakerum! The food is incredibly fresh and creative. This visit didn’t disappoint with the exception of a server who wasn’t as knowledgeable or helpful as we needed. But we will definitely be back. It’s the perfect relaxed, fun environment to enjoy sake and sushi with friends.
We loved it and celebrated my daughter birthday.
They offered us “champagne” at the end of the lovely dinner!
A little bit pricy by excellent!
The Toryu Roll is the best sushi I’ve ever tasted to date!
This was for a date and made reservations. We asked for a table that could seat 4 but were told no bc they were reserved. We ate there for 1.5+ with no one ever showing up tp the tables we asked for and saw other 2 seated parties get seated there. Next to the food our main dishes came out before our appetizer which was edamame. To get a water refill took 10 mins each time. It was very slow abs we won't be coming back.
Incredible food. Service was not very attentive. All the food also came out at the same time, which wasn’t my preference. Cocktails were good- some more innovative than others. The quality of the sushi was excellent, and a few minor tweaks would have made it 5 stars for me.
Amazing! Food was delicious and I loved the vibes. Great and welcoming service as well.
Service was good - server seemed a little stretched thin, and food runners seemed a bit confused about table numbers, but everyone was smiling and working hard for sure. Food was tasty. Only real negative was the noise level. We sat upstairs, and found it to be very loud. Downstairs seemed quieter, though, so we'd likely request downstairs seating next time. Great cocktails, too, by the way. I really liked the "how they do it in Tokyo" cocktail. Will be back for more.
I had seen this restaurant listed as a place that OpenTable employees had recommended in this area, so I knew it’d be a good choice for celebrating a recent accomplishment. The ambiance was amazing - the downstairs was dark and had this kind of sexy, luxurious vibe, but the upstairs (where we dined) was bright and airy with fairy lights, beautiful decorative pillows and outdoor seating that was still protected by the light rain. The service was prompt and the food was IMPECCABLE. Literally some of the most flavorful, unique and delicious food I’ve had in DC ever. And I’ve lived here for over a year. I’d definitely recommend the soy marinated wings and the cashew lime edamame, but everything is delicious! We will definitely be back again and recommend our friends!
We came super late so I wasn’t expecting anything outstanding, but we were seated in the bar area while our server/bartender took shots with other patrons as we sat with empty drinks and plates. The hostess ended up getting the check and clearing our table. Food was ok, we had a few rolls with tempura shrimp and it was evident that it was not fresh. If you don’t want late night diners, stop taking reservations until 10.
Great times. Blaine was a great server
Date night! I love that place so much. Best sushi in dc! Service was a bit slow and some things were a bit missed but it was packed so that’s normal, didn’t matter because of how nice the servers were.
My bartender or waitress Ting was great!and the food was absolutely wonderful
AMAZING! Took boyfriend for birthday dinner. Speechless!! We will be back.
Sakerum was great. Was originally a party of 4 but we had a surprise 5th guest and the restaurant was very accommodating. Great food and great can’t wait to go back
Disappointed in the fish, was not quite what I was expecting! The unagi was not as melt in your mouth as I like, the sushi rice was a bit dry. I was visiting from out of town and was looking forward to a great sushi dinner, I would not recommend.
Amazing sushi. So worth it. Can't wait to try it again. Service was outstanding. Ambiance was perfect.
Great atmosphere. Frankie is the best!
Amazing hostess to waitstaff. Went out of their way to accommodate. Our favorite DC sushi place.
Great food! Creative takes on sushi rolls. Salmon tataki roll is not to be missed!
Though some of the food and drink options were pricy it was totally worth going. Servers were great and the sushi was on point.
Quality food and environment, definitely one of the more memorable Asian restaurants in DC. Prices vary widely on the menu so you can get value if you make wise choices. The brusel sprouts were fantastic as an appetizer. Would go back for a special occasion.
I love Sakeru, but it's becoming a bit pricey. The sushi and other entrees are great, but the drinks are subpar and expensive. I'll only be coming here for dates when I'm not paying.
Sakerum is our favorite sushi in the city and we go as a treat. Tonight, we placed a $100+ order to go at 8pm. When it was delivered, the driver seemed concerned because only two rolls were delivered. He'd even asked the restaurant if anything was missing.
We contacted Sakerum at 8:44 to let them know 80% of the order was missing. They were unapologetic and said they'd send the rest with a new driver. We called again at 9:25pm when it hadn't arrived and they said it was on its way.
At 10pm, I called and asked to speak to a manager. The person who picked up asked what I was calling about and I let them know it was about an order we'd placed at 8pm but hadn't received yet. That person hung up on my and stopped picking up the phone for the rest of the night.
Awesome happy hour and sake! Very nice bar tender and servers. Food was delicious, sit on the rooftop!
One of the best Chirashi's in town. On the pricey side if you go with the sushi, sashimi, or wagyu options, but that's expected. However, there are plenty of other options. I would definitely go back for the tasting menu.
Great food and even better service. Would return just for our server, Eva. She was fantastic.
Moved to DC almost 1 year ago. This is the best sushi I have found in the city. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Can’t wait to go back!
Ambience wasn’t the great. Service was fine. Mostly the food was overpriced. Would recommend going there for their happy hour drinks and food which is a lot cheaper.
