At Sarto, we believe that poring over the details is always worth it; and that the joys of a meal go far beyond the food itself. In keeping with Italy’s authentic, old-world traditions, we’ve approached our menu in much the same way an Italian chef opening a restaurant here in America might, with dishes composed of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, that honor our region in a modern way.

Prepared from an open concept kitchen, our menu features modern Italian fare made with the freshest local ingredients Rhode Island has to offer, complimented by award – winning wines and a carefully curated cocktail program.

Sarto is located just moments from local performing arts and convention centers in the historic Teste brownstone building. Originally built in 1860, our restaurant was once home to an apothecary, a money-to-loan business and later the Philip Wolfe Haberdasher, which inspired the name Sarto or tailor in Italian.

Be sure to stop by Sarto after the show and enjoy music, dessert or bar snacks and a late-night libation. The overall ambiance of Sarto is very nice with warm lighting and it wasn’t too loud on a Sunday evening. Our server was very nice and attentive. We ordered the mozzarella and arugula salad and it came with out the pickled onions and it was overly spiced with so much black pepper it was difficult to eat, and I like black pepper. Our meals took a while to arrive but our server did approach us to apologize. The scallops were beautiful and tasted great, however, they were to be served with mussels and the dish had none!Our server had brought a bowl for the shells, So either she wasn’t notified about the lack of mussels or when she was she didn’t say anything. The branzino was delicious but was such a small serving for the price. Overall, it was a bit disappointing.

Food was ok, I got a pasta dish which was a bit overcooked and not very exciting. My wife had a salad that sounded fabulous but in reality was a bowl full of dressed arugula and not much else.

Sarto's was the perfect choice for dinner before seeing a show at the Providence Performing Arts Center, which was a 3-minute walk away. The service (Jessica) and food were terrific. The next-door valet parking was very convenient and affordable with Sarto's 50% discount.

Good service. But that was about it. Charcuterie board was boring. Overloaded with cheeses that were misidentified. A few olives or a bit of fruit would have made a difference. Very limited and expensive wine list. By the glass $32 for a 9 oz pour. Bottles nothing under $100. Ouch. Cacio Pepe needed more pepper and was underwhelming. My pollo fritto was unseasoned although the fregeola base was tasty. Open kitchen a mistake with guys in tshirts or using bare hands. Watching taking arugula from a bag and dumping on a plate not so appetizing. One guy looked like he hated his job. Probably won’t return.

Our server was wonderful! As was the support team. Branzino was terrific and I'm a frequent branzino eater. My husband's pasta dish (pesto, chicken and other bits and bobs) less so; under seasoned overall. Definitely go. Nice atmosphere!

Sarto had a beautiful, elegant atmosphere with great service and delicious food. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared, and it was the perfect spot for a classy solo dinner. I would definitely return!

It felt as if we were being catered to by the waiter and servers. The wait time was very reasonable and the food and drinks were top notch!
