Established in Shinagawa, Tokyo in 2018, Showa Era was created to bring the soul of Japan’s golden culinary age to the modern table. Every day, we select the freshest seafood and slowly simmer our signature chicken broth for over six hours ,crafting a deeply rich, clean, and unforgettable foundation for our dishes. Freshness is not a claim; it is our daily ritual. Our sushi is prepared live by experienced Japanese chefs, including culinary masters who have trained and worked with the prestigious Nobu Hospitality Group and Michelin-starred restaurants across Japan. Precision, discipline, and artistry define every bite. While we honor authentic Japanese tradition, we are not bound by it. Our menu also features carefully curated fusion creations blending classic techniques with bold innovation to create a dining experience that surprises, excites, and inspires. Showa Era is more than a restaurant. It is nostalgia elevated. It is craftsmanship reimagined. It is Japan refined for today

📍showa era izakaya @showaeraizakaya located near hell’s kitchen is such an underrated gem! they’ve got all the classics and they do them well including ramen, donburis, sushi rolls, sashimi, and more. considering the quality of their food, the prices are surprisingly affordable—where else can you get a whole sushi roll of wagyu, uni, caviar, snow crab, scallop, etc for ~$25?! their drinks are also super refreshing and i love the retro vibe of the interior. overall an amazing spot—definitely worth visiting! featured: 🐚hokkaido lover signature roll 🤩 🐟mixed sashimi don 🤩🤩🤩 🥩miyazaki wagyu signature roll 🤩🤩🤩 🍣salmon tartare 🤩🤩🤩 🍸lychee martini 🤩🤩🤩 🍋‍🟩passion fruit lime sparkler 🤩🤩🤩 thank you so much @showaeraizakaya for having me i love it 🥰 follow @ho.sik.foods for more ho sik foods!

@showaeraizakaya really understood the assignment 🍜 I started with crispy karaage 🍗 , then went all in with their rich wagyu 🍛 , premium wagyu sushi roll, the Hokkaido Lover roll, and ended the night with a comforting bowl of wagyu ramen. Every dish felt cozy, flavorful, and perfect for a late night NYC food run ✨ #nyceats #izakaya #japanesefood #wagyu #ramen

If you’re craving a Tokyo night without leaving NYC, Showa Era in Hell’s Kitchen is the place to be. We went all in with crispy karaage, piping hot takoyaki, a rich bowl of shoyu ramen, and that melt-in-your-mouth A5 wagyu don you’ll be thinking about the next day. But the real standout was the Hokkaido Lover, one of their specialty rolls with seared scallops, cucumber, avocado, and shiso leaf, topped with Hokkaido uni caviar. Easily my favorite. The Hanabi and Shibuya Night rolls did not miss either, both packed with flavor and done right. Washed it all down with a smooth highball and sake. The vibe is retro and nostalgic, the kind of spot that just hits right from start to finish 🍶✨ If you’re in the area, check them out: 📍767 9th Ave. New York, NY 10019. @showaeraizakaya is an incredible new Japanese restaurant that just opened last month. It has authentic Japanese flavors. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. I really enjoyed seeing all the manga and anime references throughout the restaurant. The sushi is incredible and every bite is so yummy. Here is everything we had: Tuna Avocado Tofu Steak - Tofu, cheese, cabbage, eel scooting 7 pc sushi - Scallop, yellow tail, Batan ebi, lean tuna, sea bream, chuo-Toro Karaage Curry Lychee Martini Tokyo Swizzle - Lemon pineapple and Tito’s Apparel Follow @dan_nycfoodie for more invaluable food 🥘 and drink 🍹 recommendations in New York City and other places around the USA 🇺🇸 All photos and videos are shot with iPhone 17 Pro 📸 #eating #japanesefood #yummy #sushi #dishcoveryeats

Just tried Showa Era Izakaya and I’m already planning my next visit 🇯🇵✨ This newly opened izakaya @showaeraizakaya in Hell’s Kitchen completely surprised us—from the quality of the food to the portions (which are actually generous 👀) Highlights for me: • Japanese sweet potato tempura with wasabi mayo • Shoya grill platter with Angus short rib, shrimp & mackerel • Salmon tartare (so fresh) • Beef donburi with egg yolk for dipping 🤤 • Angus beef ramen loaded with meat (rare for ramen) • Hokkaido scallop roll topped with uni, caviar & gold flakes ✨ Everything was flavorful, beautifully presented, and the vibe honestly made it feel like we weren’t in NYC anymore 👏🏼 If you’re looking for a new date night or group dinner spot—this one’s worth checking out 👌🏼 Follow @itskimpham for more hidden gems and newest restaurant openings in NYC! ✨ #NYCFoodie #NYCEats #NYCRestaurants #HellskitchenNYC #Izakaya

Food was decent. Staff is not Japanese (we speak it and they don't) and the main woman was extremely pushy, telling us what to order, constantly coming to the table to ask us to order more and then visibly trying to push us out at the time she felt we should be done. The person I ate with stayed with another invited group and the same woman asked them to leave after 1hr 30mins. I ordered a bottle of sake priced at $50. When it arrived it was a HALF SIZE bottle. The bill for 2 people was over $200. I was told the larger group's bill was $105. They wildly overcharge for booze. Sushi pieces were not large. The bartender was nice enough, though he was serving people who are very aware of quality level of sake, and he presented this bottle like it was special. It was overly-sweet and had a low alcohol content (14%). I'm not going there again.

I’m not sure how this place is so highly rated. The service was barely there and the food was mediocre at best. The ramen noodles legitimately looked and tasted like Ramen out of a lack. Save your time and go to another spot.

Excellent food with a very attentive staff, the AI art all over the walls was disappointing but didn’t make the food taste any worse.

Mediocre food and very rushed service. Nowhere on the reservation booking does there say there’s a table limit but the hostess hustled us out after 1 hour and 8 minutes, saying they had another reservation coming in 5 minutes. Just bad vibes.

Diners beware! Most of the thousands of 5-Star reviews on Google appear to have been AI-generated and posted by AI tools, as evidenced by a clear pattern of phrases used repetitively. (It's easy to spot AI-generated reviews!). With that said, we had a terrible experience overall. After arriving a few minutes early for our reservation, we were told that we could have our table for only one hour. This policy was not listed anywhere in the reservations process. We decided to stay anyway because it was Saturday night and the restaurants in the neighborhood were all booked or had long lines. Throughout dinner, the service was abrupt. The first dish that was brought to us wasn't even out dish, and just as we were about to take a bite, the waiter pulled the dish away. Then, several dishes arrived all at once with no room on the table for them. The quality of the food was either average or sub-par, and expensive for this casual level of Japanese food (6 thinly sliced sashimi pieces for $30, for example). I have eaten at hundreds of Japanese restaurants over the years, both in New York, Japan, and California, and this was by far the most unpleasant experience. Japan would not approve of this restaurant (especially the awful service) and New Yorkers should stay clear of this place. Once again, BEWARE the fake AI-generated reviews for this restaurant and others, especially on Google reviews, as it does not seem that Google is screening or prohibiting this fraudulent content.

The service here is always so kind and above and beyond. The food is delicious every time we come and not your run of the mill ramen spot. I was craving hand rolls and they helped me order off menu so that I could have the option. The interior is a very distinct vibe also so a great spot to bring out of town friends to.

Great value for the price. Staff a little too attentive. Multiple people asked for our orders, so got a bit annoying having to say whether we already had something placed a few times.
