Small Barn is an exciting part of the Temecula restaurant landscape offering a casual but elevated dining experience in the form of a modern bistro. The menu is inspired by classic preparations found on bistro menus around the globe while showcasing the bounty of ingredients produced in the region. The restaurant atmosphere is crafted to be a welcoming gathering place that is beautifully designed and relaxed, but with a vibrant energy that encourages socializing and discovery.

On the site of the historic Knott Family Homestead, Small Barn has brought new life to a landmark building from the early 1900s. Great care has gone into preserving the structure and with it the legacy of a prominent Temecula family that was among the area’s first settlers. Small Barn has maintained the original residential scale and offers extensive outdoor seating including the large wrap-around porch, covered patio and fireside lounge seating.

We came here for a birthday celebration and had a great experience! The restaurant has just released a new menu and we made it in time for happy hour. The drinks were really unique, refreshing and delicious, perfect for a warm summer evening. I have a gluten allergy and our server was very knowledgeable about what I could eat. I even learned that their fryer during the week has no cross contamination and it gets cleaned out every weekend. Bonus that I could enjoy some French fries safely! We will definitely be back!

This place was ok. Basic farmhouse decor, a bit loud inside, a mix of high top and regular tables. Felt more like a coffee shop inside. Outdoors was cute and had misters. Their menu is fairly small. I got the pear and walnut salad with chicken added. The dressing oddly had no acidity, it tasted only like oil. It cost around $30. My boyfriend got the short rib, after asking the server if it was a substantial serving ($55) The server pointed to a bowl and said it came in a large bowl like that and was plenty. However it was a small serving ringed by carrots that arrived in a large bowl. My bf was disappointed by this. My kiddo got the burger which was large ($27 I think?) and enjoyed it, and we got two mocktails (I actually don’t know if they charged less than the alcohol price for those) which were ok. Overall the food was along the lines of Tender Greens but substantially pricier.

Fish dish and the Stake were terrific. Specialty drink also good. Service a little on the slow side and not as attentive as expected. Noise level was quite high indoors. The food choices & quality here make this place a recommended dining spot on old Town.

Food quality was high, and the chef came to the table on his own to speak to us and many other guests. It is always a good sign when the kitchen cares enough to meet the guest face-to-face.

We made a 4PM reservation and found out they used a small bites (happy hour) menu instead of full dinner menu which was offered at 5:30PM. Our initial disappointment (had already picked mains out from menu before we came) was quickly dissipated as everything we ordered off the small bites menu was not only tasty but happy hour priced. We had the short rib melt (off the hook good), Hamachi crudo (spicy citrus sauce), pear/walnut salad (big enough for two), and yellowtail tartare (special). Cocktails were 50% off and all were yummy. Finished with a creme brulee....chef's kiss.

I took my husband today for his birthday it was our first time at small barn old town and we absolutely loved it! The staff was friendly the food was delicious and the atmosphere was divine. Thank you the hostess, waiter, and Sergio who was walking around checking in at tables and when he found out we were there celebrating brought my husband dessert for his birthday. We absolutely will be back!
