Dining outside is always a toss-up with the weather. However, the staff did a great job ensuring quality service even though we were eating outside during a rainstorm
Tons of outdoor seating. Food was amazing! I came for lunch and was highly satisfied. Try to book in advance if you want to sit outdoors. Inside is also clean. Your temperature is also checked as well.
My party was not accommodated. No efforts were made seat us relatively close together despite my reservations requesting that. Not welcoming to people of color.
Very lovely, warm, Covid-safe experience.
Great food and great service
It’s not very enjoyable to have to wait an extra 20min to get seated and then have to sit right near the door. This was after being told we were waiting longer than expected in order to sit in a booth. I love everything about this restaurant EXCEPT the hostess staff. Just be transparent with the customer instead of wasting my time with false promises. For the amount of money I spent, I would have appreciated not feeling rushed to finish my meal after it was the hostess staff that cost us 20min of our dining time.
Ate in the outdoor complexes set up - very well organized. Temperatures taken, and each stall was individually heated and felt sound proof. Service was attentive and nice. Wine was good. Food was excellent! Had the grilled oysters and the biscuits and crispy potatoes. Would highly recommend for people taking covid seriously and still want to have a fun and delicious meal!
My boyfriend and I live very close and come often. We never get sick of the food because it’s literally just so good. The branzino is one of my favorites dishes. It’s just perfect. It’s such a great place. A gem. I highly recommend!
The ambience was great. Our booth was perfect and intimate. The salmon collars and buttermilk biscuits were amazing. The steak could have been a little less pink. The service was great. Thank you!
The food and drinks were incredible. My compliments to the the cooks and bartenders. The greeter was extremely rude and the wait staff was covid crazy. I would probably avoid this restaurant until covid is behind us as the staff appears to be frightened to interact with the guests. They were very uncomfortable in their interactions with us. Be advised that there is a 90 minute dining window at this restaurant and you will be asked to leave at the end of that time period. Apparently, even if you have not finished your meal or drinks. Another reason to probably avoid it for now.
Great ambience, very Covid conscious, excellent service, extensive wine list and, above all, delicious food.
Love going here and glad we had indoor dining!
The steaks are not super impressive in flavor. We ended up asking for sauce because it wasn’t salty or flavorful enough. They had A1 , garlic butter, or this other beef broth based one, which we really didn’t like. The salmon collar is good, nothing impressive but it is good. The crab claws are good - it’s crab, hard to go wrong. Portion size of the crab was pretty small for $24. The sardine appetizer was just okay. The sardines come on toasted bread. The beats lacked flavor and the ricotta side it comes with is more like cream cheese actually - bizarre. Overall too expensive for lack luster food. It’s not bad but truly I’ve made better at home, even down to the potato sides. The ambiance is nice but there are better options in DC.
Two of the three meals came out undercooked. The service was poor. The waitress did not provide appropriate guidance regarding the meals to come (i.e. the size of the ribeye was not big enough to share, the ice cream cake portions were huge). The most disappointing part was the value we received for the meal did not warrant the amount that we were charged.
Great service, great protocols. Will return for another visit.
Our waiter was friendly and fantastic
Food and service were both great. Best COVID protocols I have seen while dining out in DC.
Our server didn’t
We loved our first dining experience at St. Anselm. The biscuits and grilled oysters - delicious! Our server Dan was very attentive and pleasant. We also had a lovely check in from a Manager, Jill, during our meal which added to the exceptional service and experience. We will definitely return!
This was the best brunch experience I’ve had in a long time! Their COVID precautions are excellent; service was friendly; and the food was amazing.
The outdoor seating is a brilliant idea and their safety precautions are unique and fantastic, would always recommend this place because they care and maintain standards of the highest quality.
Great food and drinks, although I wish I was seated closer to my reservation time.
The fools was delicious, but I’ve never been so hurried out of a meal. Considering our $250+ check for 2 people you think they’d be more considerate of that. I understand there a time limits, but serious 1.5 hours is insane. And we were ready to spend significantly more more. Bad business in my book.
Impeccable service, delicious food and great ambiance for this birthday date.
St. Anslem has done an incredible job of creating a safe, warm space to dine outdoors. They are clear and consistent in requiring guests to wear masks any time a member of the team approaches. The food was incredible as always.
Food is always amazing and covid precautions are great! Felt very safe dining outdoors in little pods.
We sat outside in the heated, covered “shacks” and had an incredible meal, warm and dry even while it rained. Our server was attentive to both us and covid safety protocol, and our meal was incredible—the cocktails excellent!
St. Anselm's never disappoints! Brunch was incredible, the avocado toast was spicy and perfect, as was the side of bacon. My 6 year old loved the chocolate chip pancakes. We sat outside in the see through train and social distanced.
Great Covid precautions. It could have been warmer in the little hut we were in. The biscuits were delicious. Steaks on point and ice cream cake delightful. Will definately go back.
Perfect setting for Valentine's day. We did have an inside booth which might have made the difference. Our server and sommelier provided excellent guidance as we shared an top notch t-bone and Spanish red. Also, BISCUITS!!
Food was outstanding. Only downside is that the outside seating options weren’t as heated as you might think, so it was pretty cold, but the food made up for it.
Valentine’s Day. The service and food were excellent!!
We will back again soon.
The people who work there are always so lovely ! I’m actually usually there for the sides and the grilled tuna steak (not much of a beef eater) but since they’ve taken the tuna off the menu, the biscuits, broccoli and potatoes will do. Looking forward to trying the grilled branzino next. Wish they still had the tuna though. It was phenomenal.
The staff was very attentive and professional. St Anselm adheres to social distance guidelines which made me feel very safe.. I had a wonderful time.
I visited St. Anselm on Valentines Day and was seated in one of the outside private heated "rooms". I felt very comfortable being able to dine out during the times we are in while seated here and was comfy and cozy! They did a great job with the rooms. The food and service were outstanding.
So we dined at the restaurant back in September for a friend birthday dinner. Our waitress was amazing. Then we got the same waitress again who was absolutely amazing! I sorry I don’t remember her name. We lunch and brunch here very frequently when time permits.
One of the best meals I've ever had! Excellent service as well
Fantastic meal and was happy to see masks being worn by all. I felt as safe as I could be dining out during a pandemic.
I was really looking forward to trying this place out after hearing rave reviewers from friends. The food was decent but honestly a bit over priced, the potato dishes were both really good and saved the meal for me. Service was good and given the circumstances the outdoor dining was solid too. Overall, it was good and I would go back for sure, but I’m not in any rush too.
My fiancé and I really enjoyed our meal and the ambience at St. Anselm's. It was close, the parking was convenient, and the service was courteous and attentive. The food was phenomenal and a great find for the day before Valentine's Day. Also, the convenience of using OpenTable for availability and reservations made it easy for a non-planner like myself to make the arrangements, know and share details, and check the box as the true romantic.
