Sweeny's Seafood is a bar and grill located right in the middle of Centerville's Historic District. This location in the heart of the area nightlife means there is plenty for guests to do both before they come to the restaurant and after they leave. Sweeny's has seen a significant amount of success over the years, at it has been named "Best Seafood Restaurant" in Dayton and Executive Chef Michael Kruse was voted "Best Chef" in both 2015 and 2016.Sweeny's menu is made up primarily of seafood specialties. Starters here include a classic shrimp cocktail, steamed Prince Edward Island Mussels, Maryland crab cakes and black 'n blue scallops. The menu changes frequently, but there are certain items that have become staples. These are listed under the Sweeny's Dinner Traditions portion and features organic bourbon barbecue Scottish salmon, trout amandine, coconut shrimp and Alaskan snow crab legs.

The food was OK but the service was not. The restaurant was clearly understaffed. My party, after about 20 minutes had to search for a server as well as find additional chairs, water and place settings. (We had made reservations for eight, but seated at a table for six.) When the server appeared, it was apparent they were not prepared to handle. The server even commented, "Surprise!" .... There was not an apology which made us think it was the norm. I was with a very positive and fun group of eight who made light of the poor service. Most customers would have left. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and it was not busy although it was a Sat night. We later wondered if they chased our server out of the kitchen to wait on us...honestly. From the time we ordered drinks until the time delivered, it was at least another 20 minutes. Things like an additional drink, water and additional bread were forgotten. The food was good; but, there are many restaurants with good food AND good service. I personally appreciate good service as much as as good food. I would not recommend. I need both.
