We’ve been to Taiki four times and it’s always outstanding. Both the sushi and the cooked dishes are well made and delicious. Staff knows all the fish and sake in detail and explains options clearly. Nice selection of Japanese and locally caught fish. Highly recommend.

Most importantly the food was really good but the value wasnt there, this place is way too expensive. The rolls are $14 and are the small six-piece ones you typically get for $6 at other sushi places. I have no problem paying more for good sushi but Taiki wasn't worth it, just too expensive and the value wasn't there.
They were also understaffed for a Saturday night, our waiter did fine but he could have used the help, they also only had one sushi chef working which caused a long wait for orders. Won't be going back.

Watching Taiki (the sushi chef) in action is like watching an artist paint a painting. And his curated selection of fresh fish from around the world is to die for. No rainbow roles or other crazy combinations with sauces. Taiki is all about quality fresh fish with expert preparation. Oh and try their amazing saki.

As soon as we entered, we were welcomed by all. Our table for two was in the rear and very comfortable. The service staff brought our extremely tasty cocktails within a short time. The chef’s choice was delicious, a mix of fresh sushi. The grilled octopus special was enough for two.
It is a small place so I would recommend reservations. Are we coming back? Absolutely!

The appetizers were great! We had crab cakes and calamari. But the sushi itself was underwhelming. The ambiance was great- beautiful space. Great service!

A true neighborhood gem, this is quickly becoming my favorite sushi place in the city. The food is consistently excellent, as is the ambiance and especially the service. We often bring our two small children for an early weekend dinner and the staff is amazing with them - as a result, our kids love to eat there, and to try new foods. We love Taiki!

I found this place randomly and I'm so glad I did! It was without a doubt one of the best dining experiences my husband and I have ever had. I am not adventurous with sushi and our server, Jonathan was an expert on guiding me through the menu. So knowledgeable and passionate about sharing his expertise. We were able to expand our palates while having an unbelievable meal here. We live in Manhattan and we will certainly be making the trip to Brooklyn to eat here again. The food was delicious but Jonathan really made our experience next level. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The back table in the room is very private and great for a date night which is where we sat.

Taiki is our go-to sushi restaurant in Brooklyn. It is authentically Japanese, high quality sushi at its best. It compares to the high end sushi places in Manhattan. You won’t find a dragon roll here. The service was outstanding at our most recent visit.

Saw the New York restaurant week promo outside the restaurant and decided to try it out. Went in 15 mins before HH is over and took advantage of it. Had the chamosan and a sale mojito (can’t recall the exact name) and they were light and refreshing for such a humid and muggy day. The monkfish karaage & crab cakes appetizer are on point. Lightly battered and done so well and the dip for the crab cakes went so well with the monkfish too. The chef Sushi selection is well spread out. I’m not good with sour taste so the yuzu sorbet is a pass though I did try a few spoonfuls. Overall, a great dinner and music is jamming!

Food was great but service was painstakingly slow! We literally had to beg for something to put in our stomachs after not getting served even the appetizers after about an hour! It might have been just that night, overall experience was still great.

Food was pretty good. This is the type of place that emphasizes good quality fish as opposed to the type that offers a lot of crazy ingredients in their rolls. Value was just ok - you can get the same or better quality for lower prices elsewhere. Ambience was kind of split - the decorating and lighting were nice, but the place is super, super cramped even by NYC standards. Service was about what I'd expect - they made two mistakes but they did fix them. Overall, though, I didn't think it was worth the money or the extremely cramped environment.

My boyfriend and I came here on Valentine's Day. We both work 60 plus hour weeks, so we were excited to finally have a nice date with each other. We thought an 8 course dinner and "bottle of sparkling sake" for $160 for 2 was a great value.

We were incredibly disappointed by the meal. Our server was juggling way too many things including wearing the hat of hostess. At the beginning of the meal, we felt rushed. The first 2-3 courses all came at once and we didn't get any water until 20 minutes into the meal. The first 2 courses weren't anything special, miso soup and edamame to share. Every Japanese lunch special in New York City comes with miso soup and the obvious edamame add on. We were hoping for something more inspired?? The bottle of "sparkling sake" was flat and wasn't really a bottle, but more so a 350ml serving. The other 5 courses took an hour and a half to come out and they were out of order. The whole point of having an 8 course dinner is to enjoy the progression of the meal the way the chef intended. But apparently something went wrong in the kitchen so our dinner ended up lasting over 2 hours. It caused a traffic jam by the front door as the guests waiting for our table were standing next to ours. Eager to sit down at our spot and begin their own meal. I thought the whole thing was sloppy, disappointing and overpriced. I will say that the sushi and sashimi was marvelous. Oh and the 8th course desert was very disappointing, 2 pretzel sticks dipped in strawberry yogurt wrapped in plastic for you to take to go on your way out.

We LOVE this place. Since it’s just down the block, we definitely plan on making it our go-to, neighborhood Japanese restaurant. The food is always on point, the service is lovely—knowledgeable, attentive, friendly—and vibe is laid back (but it still feels like ‘a night out’).

We have a number of good sushi restaurants in Southern California (we're transplants) but VERY few with the quality of fish offered by Taiki. It was melt-in-your mouth and perfectly cut. The rice was perfect also - was neither gluey nor crumbly. The edamame was to die for. The musical playlist was also innovative and pleasant, a lovely accompaniment to a very, very fine meal.
