Soak up our friendly service and homely charm when nestled in the impressive roadside pub in the picturesque village of Shorton. Here at The Cricketers, we are the perfect retreat to sit back, relax and indulge in our delicious food with the perfect drink in hand.
Situated at the foot of Hambledon Hill, home of an Iron Age hill fort, and just off the Wessex Ridgeway footpath, a right of way passes right through our garden, making it a delightful spot for walkers to rest and enjoy some well-earned refreshments!
Here at the Cricketers, we see ourselves as being a real village pub - delicious food, a great selection of drinks and the warmest of welcomes. Well behaved dogs are also welcome!

A Wonderful Sunday Roast and Such a Welcoming Atmosphere! We had the most wonderful Sunday lunch today, and I honestly couldn’t fault a thing! I started with the squid, which was delicious, followed by the roast beef. Now, I’m very particular when it comes to a Sunday roast, especially roast beef, but I have to say it was absolutely amazing! I also had my seven-month-old son with me, who thoroughly enjoyed his chips, although, as anyone with a baby knows, half of them ended up on the floor! What made the experience even lovelier was how relaxed and understanding the staff were. Nothing seemed to be a problem, which makes such a difference when dining out with a little one. The atmosphere was wonderful, the people were lovely, and the food was exceptional. It’s so nice to find somewhere that serves a fantastic Sunday roast while making everyone feel genuinely welcome, even the messiest little diners! We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

I haven't been the the Cricketers for several years but I'd heard that now, under another new management, it's worth a visit. I was very pleased. The menu offers some fairly standard dishes and some more unusual. I had beer battered haddock and chips which were delicious - the batter was excellent, not too thick, the fish was fresh and not over-cooked and the chips crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Altogether a most enjoyable lunch.

we eat here on a regular basis and we kept on to our friends how good the food is and what a wonderful pub it is . This Sunday was a complete shambles the service was shocking 40 minutes to clear the plates the waitress took 2 plates then we waited another 10 minutes for her to remember to come back and clear the rest and then we had to ask for a dessert menu this was just dumped on the table and she walked away before we could ask what was gluten free . The male waiter was quite helpful when we did order a dessert and he always asked the chief what contained gluten . Another negative this Sunday was the one very small dish containing two pieces of cauliflower for a table of five this isn't good enough , the amount of meat was awful everyone had beef mine was grey and over cooked not pink like normal there was only one on the table who's meat was cooked properly . Maybe some advice if you can't cope with the amount of covers then don't take so many bookings . Please you had something really special excellent food and a good reputation . I will give you another chance to put things right

Thank you for your feedback and continued support. We’re sorry Sunday fell short, especially after you recommended us to friends. We carried out check-backs, but no concerns about the beef were raised. We understand you didn’t want to complain in front of your guests; had we known, we could have put things right. Some staff were new and need time and support to get up to speed, but we acknowledge the service delays and will address these with the team. We’ll also discuss the cauliflower portions and beef with our kitchen. Thank you for giving us another chance. The best pub food ever! I can no longer risk going for food at a different pub because I know it won’t be as good as The Cricketers. And the staff are fantastic. Five stars for everything!!

We had a superb evening meal. Excellent home cooked food with incredible unique flavours and sauces. Starters were delightful and very filling. Steaks cooked as requested. 😋. Really enjoyable and highly recommended. We will definitely return.

I hadn't been to The Cricketers for a while but I am glad to have returned. The specials are really good and staff are great. Also, it's very, very dog-friendly.

What a fantastic pub, lovely setting, beautiful inside and great atmosphere. The staff were brilliant as was the service and the food was excellent. Very rarely you will go out for a meal where both of you can't stop raving about the food but this was the meal. I had the slow roasted porchetta with honeydew figs and blackened crispy cabbage and seasonal green veg. I can't remember a meal I have enjoyed more. My husband had the house burger but it was definitely no ordinary burger. If you take the garnishes and sauces out of burgers the meat is usually bland. This was far from bland and full of flavour. We wanted to go back on the Sunday for another meal but unfortunately they stop service at 3. As we were only down here for 3 days we were out and about visiting so sadly couldn't return. A meal we will remember, thank you

We visited the pub for a meal 2 nights in a row on Friday and Saturday evening as we were staying in the village. On both evenings the food was excellent, and the young staff and landlady very attentive. It is clearly a real community pub, with a great, friendly atmosphere.
