The Gantry Restaurant
We sat outside on a lovely evening. Great setting and excellent, attentive service.
We recently went back to The Gantry for our second visit. Really love the location and service. We had the 6 course degustation... the starters were tasty, dessert was amazing, however the mains (chicken and kangaroo) were nice, but would expect a bit more depth of flavour. Would still recommend. Can also recommend speaking to the Sommelier for wine recommendations. Awesome guy and stayed within reasonable price range.
Tasting menu was great along with the matching wines. Had various dietary options which was fantastic. The staff were very professional and polite. Highly recommended!
May have been the busy day but the service was a little slow. Thanks
I have already recommended to friends and work colleagues
Wonderful five course veggie tasting menu. Surprising and wonderfully cooked.
Served with a wonderful variety of wines to choose from.
A lovely Valentine’s evening
Place felt like a metro station inside, random people running back and forth, service average with exception of one person. Food very good -unfortunately you don't go to a restaurant only for the good food but the entire experience where in this case it was average.
After significant dificulty in finding a Sunday lunch degustation waterside in Sydney, we could not of been more happy with The Gantry for our special romantic occassion. The service, food and ambiance were fabulous. They have outstanding vegetarian, vegan and regular degustation menus and were flexible in supporting individual taste/ requirements. A fabulous wine menu and reasonable cocktail offering. We are looking forward to dining there again.
Great atmosphere and amazing food . Ruby made our night very special and was accommodating in every way . They even came with a cake and candle knowing it was my wife’s bday .
Fabulous Sunday lunch enjoying the degustation menu with matched wines. Staff could not have been more attentive to detail. Lovely food and very interesting learning about the paired wines. Thoroughly recommended.
We dined at Gantry for lunch. We asked to sit outside and had a lovely view of the harbor. The best part of the experience was the view and location. The seafood was tasty, but overcooked, but the service was subpar. We asked for tap water along with our wine and cocktail (which was nothing but ice and cucumbers), and later realized we were charged $10 for bottled water. We were overall disappointed with our visit to Gantry and would not return.
Exceptional 6 course tasting menu... compliments to the chefs.
Lovely outlook overlooking the harbour.
Let down by front of house team ... 2 courses in and had to ask for a drink and the wait staff called themselves alcoholics ... not a professional look.
The good: Vanilla shortcake dessert. Close to iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, accommodation and other standard tourist spots. The gantry also has a reasonable wine list.
The not so good: Service was less than average, especially towards the end of our meal where it was clear we were ready to leave. Wait staff were happy to chat amongst themselves out the front rather than serve us a bill.
Most of the meals seemed to be trying too hard, style over substance.
I also hate being charged substantial amounts for sparkling water that comes out of a tap.
The Gantry Restaurant was a most memorable experience. I had the trout and my husband had the quail. They were exquisite! The sauces were just perfect with each particular meat. The one hat is well deserved! We sat outside on a perfect evening and watched water craft glide by. It was beautifully quiet. Service was very professional. It was my husband's birthday and he was very impressed. Instead of a bottle, we had a couple of glasses of wine each. Turned out to be cheaper that way. We thought the overall price was right too. We'll be back.
Really wonderful dining experience. we were in a hurry to see a show at the theatre and the staff not only took this into consideration but acted on it. Food was amazing, I had the crab then chicken and my wife had oysters and then fish. we wish we had more time to try the desserts. The service was great and the beer cold. could not have asked for more and I think the best compliment we can give is we have told anyone and everyone how good it was and we can't wait to get back there.
Amazing views and atmosphere. The tasting menu is amazing and makes for a great date night. Great value for money. The staff was amazing. They were knowledgeable about the dishes and were flexible, able to cater for allergies, preferences etc.
Great food and great service staff. It’s was delicious and will definitely be returning
The food was great however the service was below par for a one hatted restaurant. Its a shame the table service does not match the quality of food making it overall an underwhelming dining experience.
Nice food in a good atnosphere. Service was a little sloppy although polite.
Lovely and delicious dishes! Superb food!
The food was very, very good. Having said that, there was too much. In mitigation, it was a 6-course NYE dinner; however, we ultimately passed on the 5th course.
Again, perhaps because it was NYE - the service was virually non-existant. From where I was sitting, I could literally view 50 tables; often, 15 minutes would pass before anyone at any of those tables received any food. Even after passing on the 5th course, the meal took 2.5 hours to complete - much too long for my way of thinking. (To be certain, almost an hour lapsed between the 1st and 2nd courses; the delay was so long, even our "drink waitress" commented on the delay - 3 times.)
In the end, the Fireworks show made up for everything. We are planning to return to this hotel again next year; however, we will opt for the "NYE Party" instead of the "NYE Dinner."
Even though it took us 1 hr to walk to and from The Gantry, on NYE, in a rain, as visitors from U.K. the whole evening and experience was amazing. We will recommend to any friends who visit Sydney.
I spent NYE in Sydney and had a wonderful 5-course meal at the Gantry prior to the NYE Party. It was truly one of the most wonderful experiences I've ever had. The food was delish, wine selections great, staff wonderful and so professional (even when it started raining buckets midway). I had the BEST time. Highly recommend for NYE festivities!
Great dinner. We tried the tasting menu and every course was very tasty.
We came to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. (We also had a visiting family member join us for the celebration!)
Our waiter was very attentive and helpful not only with explaining the menu, but also activities near the restaurant after we had finished dinner.
Each dish we chose surpassed our expectations- we would definitely come back another time for a special meal.
Food and wine was good. Error in applying an entertainment voucher meant I was out of pocket $40 which the staff wouldn’t make good - left a sour taste at the end.
We went for Christmas lunch. The venue is spectacular. I would say the best available for Christmas. And, the food matched on the whole. The seafood buffet was a little stingy but the 4 course taster menu was simply superb. I’ve never tasted more tender chicken and the beef was mouth watering good.
Unfortunately, what let the day done was the service. Though the wait staff were polite. We were often left for 30 minutes or more with an empty glass and plate. Either put more staff on or they need to be more efficient. It was simply not good enough for the money spent. Sorry.
Xmas lunch was fabulous. We booked early, requested outdoor table which they accommodated, great location. Day was booked from midday - seated after 12.30..initially a bit slow to get drinks and food but staff very accommodating and friendly. Expensive package but would highly recommend.
Unfortunately the experience at The Gantry on Christmas Day was average at best. With a seating time of 12.00pm I was amused that by 12.15pm the restaurant was still not open. A que of very disappointed and frustrated guests had formed and it was evident that the staff were still preparing and cleaning. Once in side it was clear that the staff had not been briefed on what was in the package. It took another 15 minutes to sort this out. Having already had issues with poor service within the hotel, not a great start to what was suppose to be a special occasion, alas I think I would be more scathing if I actually paid for the lunch. The only other thing that really upset me was the amount of dogs sitting in the restaurant. The constant urination on chairs and other parts of furniture around us was not acceptable. When staff were notified, no action was taken. Quality of food was fine.
We liked the food and the service was great. The setting was nice. However I found the portion sizes on the taster plates very large and by the end of the meal I felt too full for comfort. We are two females so for people with bigger appetites they would have been great, but maybe consider 3 course taster plates with dessert or smaller sizes the last taster was delicious the chocolate dessert but we were so full it was hard to enjoy.
Excellent in all respects. We have been to many hatted restaurants in Australia. We had our 45th wedding anniversary here and Although our first time this one is a favourite. The staff were exceptional as was the food. Highly recommend
Food was sensational. Chose some dishes that are difficult to get right, and we thoroughly enjoyed them both. Desserts were delicious, too. Amazing view. Great service.
Had a wonderful meal with delightful service. The sommelier was insightful and knowledgeable. We’ll definitely be back again
Excellent experience on all counts. Tasting menu was terrific. As was the vegetarian tasting menu my wife had. Service from our waiter was top class, informative about the dishes and very attentive without being invasive. Noise inside was loud as several large groups having office Christmas functions. We had a table outside with a great view of the harbour.
Totally recommend the Gantry.
Wonderful food. Excellent service. A pleasure to dine at.
This lunch was for the purpose of entertaining guests and specifically chosen by myself due to the restaurant outlook and reputation. As a hatted restaurant, the service was a little unrefined and the table allocations were very disappointing. Being situated behind a curtain which was covering a coffee machine, had I known that no view whatsoever would be seen I would have chosen another restaurant. Surprisingly there were other tables available and no offer of being relocated was mentioned.
The saving grace was the food was outstanding and all guests were very pleased with their meals.
Christmas is a busy period for all however this is the time to impress for repeat guests.
Food was disappointing. I had the natural oysters, which had been cleaned in plain water (not salted) and there was no salt or pepper available to help the (non-salty) taste.
There was still no salt or pepper and we had to ask for some for the main meal. My husband's steak (which was apparently Wagyu) was tough and he was not given a steak knife (as it was supposed to be tender enough not to need one, but it wasn't).
My main meal was fish swimming in some kind of miso soup with shitake mushrooms. Unfortunately the miso was sweet to the taste so I was trying to keep the fish out of the soup (as I felt it did not help the subtle flavour of the fish).
The a la carte menu was superb and we enjoyed the beautiful combination of flavours.
Such a gorgeous setting! We sat outside by the harbour on a glorious sunny day. Drinks and food were excellent - to have so many vegan options was amazing, and they were all delicious. We sat for hours enjoying the food, wine, setting and view! Only downside was a loud group of visitors who rented out the pontoon on the water blasting dance music and yelling and shouting. Would definitely go back!
We had our Christmas luncheon at The Gantry and we decided upon the set menus, we tried Vegan, Vegetarian and the regular menus and all menus were rated highly. The venue is lovely and the staff were very knowledgeable and attentive. I would highly rate the venue for a lunch or dinner .
My roasted snapper with green beans and broth was delicious. The presentation was nice and the waiter was knowledgeable. If I had to critic the meal it was a teeny bit salty and I wish I didn’t sit on the couch side of the table. Recommended
