Es difícil creer que The Plume of Feathers en Mitchell fue alguna vez un lugar local de aspecto descuidado ya que todo a cerca de esta posada del siglo XVI sugiere calidad y atención al detalle. As usual the lunch was a pleasurable experience , the service was excellent, friendly and attentive . However the light lunch menu which included a choice of a frittata was quite small and therefore not value for money although it tasted very nice . It was also very disappointing to see 2 dishes on the already small desert menu not available ! It will not put us off visiting again but i do hope the overall menu is improved ,

The starters were quite good. Chicken parfait, Pears with chicory and Scallops. These were good. However two of our table ordered rump steaks. One was well done the other was medium rare. Neither guest could eat them completely. Probably a third possibly more, because they were too tough! These steaks are expensive compared to other menu items, and the meat suppliers need to be taken to task by the proprietors? The young lady who was serving us was lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful, but in my view the “small allowance” that was made on the bill was not enough. However to have complained more vigorously would have potentially spoilt an otherwise enjoyable evening with old friends. So we “put up and shut up”. Maybe right maybe wrong, but the Plume of Feathers, you need to step up and sort your butcher out. We know what a good steak should be , no matter how it’s served, as a retired chef and the son of a butcher and my friend a retired beef farmer, we are not ignorant of what quality is required when serving meat? Yours was not up to the required mark.

We acknowledge your concerns that both steaks were excessively tough, despite being cooked to different preferences, and that this points to a potential issue with the quality of the meat itself, not simply its preparation. Excellent food. Well prepared. Not just your normal pub fayre. Sunday roast chicken and the veggie option was superb. Will definitely return.

My meal was excellent (trout starter and muscles). However my friends endured very average food which took an age to appear. The cavernous dining room feels like a village hall, which is a shame as the pub as a whole is charming and beautifully restored. Staff on the whole were friendly and on point but after our starters arrived very promptly mains took an age to appear. Muddled menu, they need to decide whether they are a decent pub or a gastro. Prices too high on the "pub classics" which lacked finesse and flavour. Could be so much better but I suspect they won't change as it seems to be successful and busy. I would suggest a seperate "pub classics" menu and an al a carte for those that want it. A menu of 6 starters and 6 mains just isn't enough to give choice. I would finish by saying again my food was delicious and showed some real imagination and skill from the kitchen.

Lovely warm welcome as soon as we walked in, I said on the booking that it was for my birthday, and on the table was a birthday card from the staff at The Plume of Feathers which I thought was very nice, staff soon fetched our drinks and we placed our order. The food is presented well and tasted amazing. You can taste the quality of the food. The whole experience was lovely. Thank you.
