The Puffing Billy is located in the beautiful village of Exton on the east side of the Exe estuary.

We offer a dynamic, seasonal menu of locally sourced produce inside a cosy, recently revamped stylish interior. We change our menus regularly and have a daily changing specials board utilising local produce. On Sundays we offer a superb selection of roast dinners.

We have 3 sections of the restaurant and depending on number of guests can cater for your needs. 10-30 is easily achievable as long as it is pre-ordered. Very spacious and comfortable dining. Enjoyed our meals of gammon, grilled fish, and burgers plus accompaniments and desserts.

One of the best Pub Roasts I’ve ever had. Tasted like a perfect home cooked Roast, great portions and delicious. Immediately offered extra gravy. Ticked all the right boxes! Early Sunday morning, knew we were going to be late to the reservation, messaged on the App, and got an immediate response. Great service all around. Our drinks order was taken whilst we were in a small queue, waiting to be seated.

Mussel starter was very nice, all open and nice flavour sauce. Pate was well presented. Crispy batter on the fish and chips, nice option for grilled. Friends enjoyed their sausage and mash, good portion of gammon egg and chips. Lovely crème brûlée too. Nice pace between courses. Staff were friendly.

Took my elderly mum who was in a wheelchair for a birthday lunch out. The access wasn’t great as a lot of faffing about to get to a side alley then a door which was hard to open. Managed to summon help from person in the bar who, to be fair was helpful in this and again on exit. The accessible loo was within a confined area near the door too. The food was good but very small & thin pieces of fish. Mum actually asked for more fish as hers was so tiny but she opted for a smaller portion. Service was a bit hit & miss. More miss than hit. Had to go to bar to request dessert menu. They took ages collecting our plates from main course. Not at all busy from what we could see. All in all a bit of a meh experience for what should have been a nicer occasion. Expensive for what it was - but then despite where you eat out now everywhere is the same. I wouldn’t take my mother again there.

The atmosphere and ambience was great. I loved the way the table was set with flower. The service was exceptional...no rush for us to order. I highly recommend The Puffing Billy and look forward to my return.
